I wonder what we would all be thinking if Poly was as open about GT5 as Turn10 is about Forza 3... Would there be a clear front runner for console racing games?!musicalmac
There are no "front runners" in SW. ;)

Cars don't bounce off the walls in Forza 3. And Forza 2 had fenders that fell off.

As I said not the internal damage. I said cosmetics, not physics. The Gt5 cosmetics look better it's unfortunate and ridiculous that it's only on 170 cars though.

[QUOTE="navyguy21"]Did you watch the video? The damage was CLEARLY set on cosmetic.............meaning the car will only sustain scratches and scrapes. Forza 3 does have full simulation damage like in GT5 where bumpers fly off, windows break, and it can actually effect your driving. This was also in Forza 2. Why dont you try WATCHING the video so you dont embarass yourself further II-FBIsniper-II
To be fair, cosmetic damage means only that, the damage will be limited to cosmetics. Changing the settings won't make more things fly off, they'll just make the damage affect performance. From what I've seen, GT5's cosmetic damage is much more notable than Forza 3's.

Ok cool, thanks for the correction :D

...Not quite. If I could just link to Kotaku. And I quote-

[QUOTE="Kotaku"]Fans excited about the possibility of car damage finally coming to the Gran Turismo series should check that excitement for now, at least until we see something more substantial. The core gameplay felt solid, just as solid as any of Polyphony's previous driving sim efforts. But it also felt familiar. With Tokyo Game Show just around the corner, we're hoping Polyphony has more to show us than a couple doors flopping about.

So... Yeah.

I really don't get PD sometimes. Why bother if only 170 of 1000 cars will feature it?

ummmmmmm come again?

really, last time i checked, Forza was in direct competition with Gran Turismo

if you have watched the video and payed attention. he was playing it on casual setting, which means he had assists on, or in other words all real sim settings are turned off or partially turned off.

The sad part is, a couple of doors flopping about is more than Forza 3's cosmetic damage currently allows and probably the limit car manufacturers are going to set.

I completely agree and I also agree about the guy mentioning the AI. Both games have their flaws though... Personally I prefer GT5's lighting and visuals, Forza 3's internal damage, Gt5's cockpit view, Forza 3 car paint customization and body mods, GT5 costmetic damage and Forzas online car auction community. If a game came out that fofered these features I'd be a very happy camper.

Looks awesome, and I don't see how the rewind option could be a bad thing (hopefully you can take pics of crashes too :P) when you'll have the option of not using it depending on the type of race gamer you are. It's a major help for guys like my dad who hardly ever play vid games but do once and awhile and would like to undo an race-ending accident he caused on the last lap.

Thank you for answering that question :) no one ever does lol. The videos aren't working for me right now and I wanna watch them. It sounds like Gran Turismo will have more detailed cosmetic damage. But the mechanical damage is much more important. They should go all out at TGS with more details.

Why did everyone stop talking in this topic? I think the best new thing about Forza is how they help you if youre a noob. It's good for a big audience. I like the rewind feature even if it isnt realistic.

I think some of the trainign features are great also. Helps newbies to the racing games enter and not feel at a complete loss. Even arcade racers are complex now so this is great for a sim racer. Plus once the person gets better they can slowly shed the training helpers.

Its Forza if i've ever seen it, and rewind is still as bad of a game mechanic in a racing sim as i've ever seen(actually its still a toss up between that and auto-brake/drive). Season mode seems interesting, its funny how people complain about GT physics and damage after seeing that video. The driving was just horrible, he just smashed other cars out the way to gain position then rewinded when he caught himself in an accident. Well thats enough GT talk, so far the game looks solid, hopefully the rest of the tracks are more inspired and the 200+ events don't turn into chores.

what does that have to do with his poor driving? Is that really an excuse for smashing cars to gain pole position, because if this is how forza players win their games then, i could see why ms is focused on making this game more of a casual experience.

rewind feature = arcade gaming = yuck

yea yea you can turn it off. but i don't think a 'simulation game' should have one. lol. where's the simulation in that?

if GT5 will have something like this or even close to this i would explode. seriously.

arcade mode must be different from sim mode in the game.

I just watched all the videos and it looks good :). I honestly dont see much of a difference in the GT5 videos when it comes to hitting other cars and stuff. One thing I like a lil bit more in GT5 is the cockpit view. So far Forza has more noob options lol but we have to learn more about GT5.

a one man playing style does not mean its an entire forza players playing style. its a personal choice. there are hardcore sim players that plays with no assists.

what does that have to do with his poor driving? Is that really an excuse for smashing cars to gain pole position, because if this is how forza players win their games then, i could see why ms is focused on making this game more of a casual experience.

a one man playing style does not mean its an entire forza players playing style. its a personal choice. there are hardcore sim players that plays with no assists.

:| He works for T10....need i say more?

I don't like the rewind feature but I'm not going to hold it against them - these sort of games are intimidating to most players and the larger an audience they can appeal to, the better. Besides, don't use (or disable) the rewind feature, turn off the assists, and you'll be making twice as much money as people who use those handicaps in the career mode. It's a good balance.

[QUOTE="aero250"]I went to my friends house and played prologue and it had that issue in the mirror.

That's cool bro. I just played prologue right now, and the mirror looks damn fine

Although I don't like how that particular windshield limits your view. It's a tuned SR10

Good for you but it's what ive seen so yeh.

rewind feature = arcade gaming = yuck

yea yea you can turn it off. but i don't think a 'simulation game' should have one. lol. where's the simulation in that?

if GT5 will have something like this or even close to this i would explode. seriously.

arcade mode must be different from sim mode in the game.

Its called making the game more accessible for the casual crowd. Forza 2 had very casual settings... but you could also turn all max sim settings and get a very solid and punishing sim experience.

GT5 and the GT series has always been closer to arcade racers than Forza. The point of these things is to make the game more accessible and have a less punishing learning curve. If you think GT5 is going to be any "better" in terms of a simulation experience, you'll be sadly mistaken. If you want a "true" sim experience, one that doesn't offer any kind of aides, play GTR2.

exactly. i dont like the rewind feature either but this does not mean its a bad mechanic going towards those that think it is. i have a little nephew who is interested in playing this, most likely on casual settings.

Also, the PR guy doing the demo is a terrible driver. I understand that he's trying to show off features, but my god he sucks.
