"Fun" is such a stupid ass term we use to try and discribe the complex experience we go through when playing a game. It's so much deeper then that when you combine video game's amazing atmosphere, advanced AI, and thought-provoking story-line, and all of the emotions you experience when you play a game.
If we try to hold on to the dated term that all games have to be "Fun" then video games will never advance as a medium.

I cannot even begin to describe how much I hate what you just said. I bet you're one of those "Video games are art" people as well.Hell no, I loveDynasty Warriors Gundam and that is as stupid as games get.
But I hate it when people complain about how this games sucks because it was fun in the first 15 mins or whatever.
But I feel like you need games like Dead Space, Fallout 3, Phoenix Wright, Banjo Nuts and Bolts, The World Ends With You, and Uncharted that go along with the fun games and try to create complex and awesome experiences.
theres room for both "fun" and "experience". Just as the same person can enjoy both something like Superbad, and Reqiuem for a Dream or Man Bites Dog (kind of extremes but still). In recent memory though (Wii aside) developers are starting to make everything too serious, and forgetting that ulitmatly, were there just to have a good time. GTA4 imo was an amazing game, but its a perfect example of where developers should have held onto, as you say it, the dated term fun.
