The model was updated? It doesn't look fundamentally better.
... one uses flat 2d chains while the other uses modeled 3d chains.

This is an expected upgrade. In general, the game looks dated though.

That type of detail is all over the game now so I dont know what you are talking about.

How many times do i have to say it? Despite new details, it still looks very much like gears 1 in general, which is in my opinion, a little dated by this time.

So you're saying the art style is dated? Cause other than that you got no argument.

What i'm saying is that the graphics, if you don't consider adding chains to the new Brumak model, look too similar to the game released in 2006. It's sort of how the source engine looks good, but is starting to show it's age.

It looks just like Gears in 2006 because it has the same art direction and somewhat same settings, not because its getting less detail or up to date rendering techniques.
Gears 2 looks much better than Gears 1.... get over it.... are you a Cow or Hermit? I'm guessing Hermit... cuz you seem to be trying to say that Gears 2 on 360 doesnt look any better or as good as the original Gears on the PC.....
go away plz Troll.

Wow, the fastest "/thread" I have ever seen
yea seriously.it looks like there is nowhere near as much aliasing as the first one (360 version ofcourse)
hyperboy152000
Unral Engine 3.0 doesn't support anti-aliasing. The jaggies in GEOW are supplemented with motion blur.
Character model's with this kind of detail is far from dated.
justforlotr2004
Oh my god... Flawless...
So's your mom, but you don't hear me complaining.Relys
I believe i said "Gears 2 not looking so hot", which i assume you wanted to reply "Neither does your mom.". Good try though, A for effort.

Gears of war PC did support AA on DX10 mode.

Yeah, even for DX10 the max you could choose was 4xAA and it wasn't supported for DX9 at all. Something to do with the rendering techniques of the UE3.

I usually don't laugh at that type of stuff, but your comment really got me going.

Thanks, I did it for "teh lulz". I wasn't actually serious. (I don't people to think I'm coming off as a jerk).
You do realise in Gears 2 there will be about a million locusts vs Gears 1's like 5 on one screen...insanejedi
Now that I'd like to see a picture!
gears2 isnt JUST about the graphics.
an besides, i dont see anything wrong if they used gears1 graphics...i think they still hold out great.
any improvement(graphical) comes out as a bonus.
and yes, the source engine does look dated now, but i would'nt say that for the unreal3 engine

Wow, the fastest "/thread" I have ever seen
yea seriously. Are you fanboys serious? The chains not being 3D in the first one was out of pure lazyness, also, the model in Gears 2 lacks the spikes and all the other features of the model shown in the first, it's just a plain white creature with chains and veins, call that improvement?
Also, Gears looks better than 97% of games yea, but it's also more linear and simplistic than 97% of games, if 97% of games were confined to a small series of boxes with animated backgrounds moving from point a to b, then they would look on par if not better than Gears.
Fanboys gawk all over the game, but all it really has going for it is fun simplistic gory gameplay and great graphics.Any developer can achieve that with the constraints Gears contains...not to mention Killzone 2 looks superior to Gears 2 and offers allot more widened enviorments...
Face it fanboys, Gears is showing its age, it was on top, but not forever, still an amazing looking game nonetherless, bjut overall any game could achieve that...

yea seriously.lmao justforlotr2004 owned tc. Gears 2 looks pretty damn phenomenal I mean it's not a huge overhaul but who needs an overhaul when the first game held the console graphics crown till Uncharted. I think Killzone 2 looks better then Gears 2 in my opinion though.

And 97% of real gamers know improvements from a predecessor, as well as fun and addictive gameplay (Gears 1 had a huge online multiplayer base) when the evidence is preseneted to them. Too bad you fall into that other 3% :)

Incase you didn't notice theres different types of armor on them which is why the spikes are not there; and dispite wheither its lazyness or not on the chains it IS more detailed so I fail to see the point in saying that. Im not even going to comment on the "Linear and simplistic" part since I dont want to seem like a fool like you. You nor I have seen other eviroments or levels to decide such claims. To be honest I would love for you to show me Killzone 2's WIDE open battlefields because from what Ive followed I have yet to see anything that says there is.

You silly goose! That's a COG Derrick that has been taken over by Locust.
This shot really shows off the new lighting and more vibrant colour palate. I liked it so much that I made a sig out of it as you can see. :P
