One game doesnt make a year, and if you truely believe it will be the best game of the year I would like to challenge you to a little bet.

GTA IV seems to be the critically acclaimed best game for this year. All I'm saying Gears of War 2 just highlights the 360 2008 game line up brighter than the competition. And mind you this is only one game out of a hand full of 360 exclusive ready to come out this year for sure.

MGS4 will be better, and will average a higher score and mind you thats just one game out of a hand full of PS# exclusives ready to come out this year for sure.

And I already know which two PS3 games you're talking about with confirmed 2008 released dates, MGS4 is one of them.

here's my take:

Graphics:

People that say this looks better/looks like crysis should get their eyes/ fanboy minds a check, the game only looks slightly better than the first one, not a major improvement. Lighting looks better (it should seeing that GeoW 1 was in the dark most of the time) and textures look better, in short i think it's the best looking game that uses UE3.

Gameplay:

Definately looks better than the previous "corridors of war" with big outdoor battles ala resistance style (only even bigger), i like how shooting the gun feels alot smoother this time around with everything running smooth overall, but the locust shield thing i dunno.

All in all it's shaping up to be better than the original, so grats lemmings.

I was expecting a major improvement..but there wasn't any in terms or raw graphics.

On the otherhand, there was alot more happening on the screen with those drones running past and the brumak and stuff. It was very busy compared to to the earlier Gears of War.

looks good, but didn't give me that epic chill on my skin. and altho there are more enemies on screen, from what i saw you still only fight 2-3 at a time (the 20 or so monsters that were on the mountain were like target shooting dummies...)kiwisama

Looks too damn similar to the Gears of War I played early last year, same animations and models -- even though the scale is larger you're still just limited to specific small battles.

That's the formula yeah, I suppose so it's difficult to really complain.

Put it this way, if I was a cow I'd obviously say KZ2 looks better and since you're the alpha lemming you'll say otherwise.

Funnily enough, I didn't even mention Killzone 2.

I am really looking forward to playing Gears 2, but that gameplay video just wasn't enough. I am satisfied, but I don't think I can say that the graphics of gears have that same awe-inspiring effect they used to have, even though the lighting, and the sheer scope of the game has been improved considerably. It pretty much left me wanting more. November '08 can't come fast enough quite frankly.

Edit: In all honesty, it was silly to have expected a "leap" instead of just a steady improvement on all aspects, especially those that needed some like lighting.

Good that the framerate is already completely smooth, and that Carmine is back. He's my choice for online play next to the Theron Guard. o:

It's not Carmine, I figure it's just your average run of the mill trooper. Most people don't go around with their helmets off.

they realy should have used a different part of the campaign. Him, moving around on a 20x20 platform like a rail shooter is not gonna sell this game for me. Nice to see that you can actualy fight the big guy this time though.

then why do lemmings pretend and demand so much more for sequels / games on the PS3???

if you hype a game to the level of GeOW2 damn right gamers must have something not totall revamped but filled with original elements... otherwise why hype that...

with this am not saying GeOW2 will be boring or lacking original stuff, i am sure it will be a great title, but we (gamers) must always pretend more on sequels or else we'll always play the same old games in better graphics...

Seriously though, the game looks super cool. The graphics don't seem to be much different, but i'll wait for an HD video before i judge the graphics. Other than that, it looks like it will be really fun and i look forward to playing co-op with my friend again.
