Well if it matters to anyone anymore, I've played Ninja Gaiden more than probably anyone here, and I will say that the combat system has more depth to it, and you definitely cannot button mash, but God of War's (especially God of War 3) is definitely not some mindless button masher (a la Dynasty Warriors).
If you don't think God of War takes any sort of skill at all, than try playing each game on the highest difficulty. I think that will change your mind. I know a lot of people just play it on normal and never go higher because its "not fun for them".
That aside, God of War excels in every aspect of the game. The Story, level design, boss fights, camera angles, enemy AI, music, gaphics, etc are miles better than Ninja Gaiden

whoa whoa whoa whoa Penalty Flag on the Play. Ninja Gaiden 2? you might have some right. But level design in Ninja Gaiden Black was excellent, the enemy AI is vastly superior in both NG games(the hell did you get taht from?) and boss fights? God of War fights are flashy and thats cool and all. They really make a grand spectacle. But the boss fights in Ninja Gaiden are some of the best in the genre, especially in Black.
As for hardest difficulty, it's because usually with majority of the games the hardest difficulty is just the game on "CHEAP" screw you over mode. The Normal/Hard(2nd hardest or whatever) is usually the ideal way the game is meant to be played. Going any harder is just trying to satisfy the masochist in yourself. If we really wanted to go there God of War on Titan/Normal isn't as challenging as NGB, DMC 3, Bayonetta on their versions of Normal/Hard. SO I fail to see how Chaos mode will be as difficult as Master Ninja, Heaven or Hell, or Infinite Climax.
God of War 3 is a great game, but there is enough reason to be argued for some of the other games in the genre. If we are talking the pinnacle of the genre Ninja Gaiden Black trumps it in every gameplay/design area(outside camera I guess) outside of story.I was talking mainly about NG2 since I figured more people had played it. Ninja Gaiden Black/Sigma do have much better level design than 2, but I found them on par with the God of War games.
I say the enemy AI is better in God of War 3 since the enemies actually try to surround you. The difficulty in NG mainly comes from the poor camera angle and enemies will attack you from off screen and kill you in 1 hit (at least on MN). Or like the Spider Ninja's do and just spam incendiary shurikens at you. I wouldn't call that advanced AI, more just cheap AI to make it seem more difficult.
God of War does seem as cheap to me since normally when I die I can't really blame anyone but myself. On NG I would finish doing an OT to an enemy and coming right out of it one of those dragons will immediately land on me and punch me in the face which takes away like 75% of my health.
I'd even go as far as saying Devil May Cry (1, 3, and 4. 2 was awful) is a more well rounded game than NG. I actually found God Mode for God of War 1 harder than Dante Must Die Mode on DMC3 or 4 (Heaven or Hell Mode is the 1 where you and enemies kill each other in 1 hit)
I will agree that the combat system in NG and DMC are more advanced though. I haven't played Bayonetta yet so I can't really speak for that.
Anyway, for me it goes God of War>Devil May Cry>Ninja Gaiden, but I love all 3 of them
