At this point I don't take about the GS score because in my mind the game is a 10, loved every moment of it. I would say that if I put myself in the shoes of the reviewer I can see why he gave it a 9.0 and not higher, the game sticks to its guns and doesn't innovate, so Im to assume innovations are greatly appreciated this gen? In that case The Last Guardian will be a 10!. I reckon GOW is one of those titles that if it did innovate would detract a lot from the experience since it's meant to tell a story, one that will conclude the trilogy and at this point in the story innovation wouldn't have made sense especially seeing as how GOW2 ended, now if there was a GOW4 then I say innovation is needed. GOW3 is a perfect conclusion to a consistently awesome trilogy.

Seriously, after playing this game, it deserves atleast a 9.5. This game was utter and complete perfection. Everything about this game was high caliber. The graphics, the presentation, the voice acting, the sound, the story...this game was just top notch. I just finished beating the game and I'm still foaming at the mouth from the sheer awesomeness I just experienced. And it's borderline insulting to give this game the same score as Bayonetta! (Awaits Bayonetta lovers :P )

Seriously though, this game is definitely my top runner for GOTY 2010. had it come out last year, I would vote for this game 100x over Uncharted 2 and Demon's Souls for GOTY. What were your thoughts about the game?

P.S. GoW3 is better than Bayonetta, Ninja Gaiden 2, Dante's Inferno, DMC4, and Halo 3! And it has better graphics than Crysis! You know I had to add in Halo 3 and Crysis or this wouldn't be a proper SW topic :P

II_Seraphim_II
Even though i have never played god of war 3. Bayonetta is the better game simply because. Fast action>>> slow action Replayability>>>>>>>>>>>>>> no new game + Sexy girl>>>>>>>>>>>>>> god hating steroid junky

[QUOTE="Hahadouken"] 5 people gang up on me for thinking NG is an overhyped POS, yet on the other hand, my opinion is "bull****" and that's a perfectly rational response.:(

Hm. I'm not part of some "gang" that have it in for you..I speak for myself. I always have, and I always will. You are inclined to your opinion, but I respectfully disagree. I just find the combat to be not as "deep" as the other games mentioned before. And again, I'm not talking about the whole package (I happen to like GOW more, personally), I'm stricktly talking combat.

I love the game but I still think a 9.0 is a proper score for it. I mean, I personally thought the game went a little bland after the Hates fight and also the battle with Zues wasn't as epic as I thought it would be. The battle with Kronos was pretty cool but I wish there were more epic battles like the one with Poseidon in the game and I wish there were more titans.

Well if it matters to anyone anymore, I've played Ninja Gaiden more than probably anyone here, and I will say that the combat system has more depth to it, and you definitely cannot button mash, but God of War's (especially God of War 3) is definitely not some mindless button masher (a la Dynasty Warriors).

If you don't think God of War takes any sort of skill at all, than try playing each game on the highest difficulty. I think that will change your mind. I know a lot of people just play it on normal and never go higher because its "not fun for them".

That aside, God of War excels in every aspect of the game. The Story, level design, boss fights, camera angles, enemy AI, music, gaphics, etc are miles better than Ninja Gaiden

Don't even talk to him about God of War 3. Back when the GoW3 Hype thread was made he won the E3 Demo and was all excited about the game. I think he was kidnapped by some Lems and brainwashed so now he hates anything related to Sony.

lol :P on the real though, I enjoyed Bayonetta a lot, but you know that Kratos has a special place in my heart :D I will admit the ending was a bit flimsy, but atleast it was conclusive. I think most people got dissapointed because they expected Kratos to get pissed off at some other random dude, and start a war again. Anyways, you Bayonetta fanboys need to learn that Kratos is king in these here parts!

whoa whoa whoa whoa Penalty Flag on the Play. Ninja Gaiden 2? you might have some right. But level design in Ninja Gaiden Black was excellent, the enemy AI is vastly superior in both NG games(the hell did you get taht from?) and boss fights? God of War fights are flashy and thats cool and all. They really make a grand spectacle. But the boss fights in Ninja Gaiden are some of the best in the genre, especially in Black.

As for hardest difficulty, it's because usually with majority of the games the hardest difficulty is just the game on "CHEAP" screw you over mode. The Normal/Hard(2nd hardest or whatever) is usually the ideal way the game is meant to be played. Going any harder is just trying to satisfy the masochist in yourself. If we really wanted to go there God of War on Titan/Normal isn't as challenging as NGB, DMC 3, Bayonetta on their versions of Normal/Hard. SO I fail to see how Chaos mode will be as difficult as Master Ninja, Heaven or Hell, or Infinite Climax.

God of War 3 is a great game, but there is enough reason to be argued for some of the other games in the genre. If we are talking the pinnacle of the genre Ninja Gaiden Black trumps it in every gameplay/design area(outside camera I guess) outside of story.

I am guessing its because he didnt go out with a bang. Like dying but taking a titan with him or something. He should have fought Titan Oranos(Kratos great-great-grandfather) IMO.

[QUOTE="jethrovegas"]

[QUOTE="Hahadouken"] Who hit a nerve? I'm not typing out an essay. I think GoW3 > NG in every conceivable way. NG2 shouldn't even be part of the equation, it wasn't anywhere near as well-received as the original. and shouldn't be compared against it OR God of War.Hahadouken

That's right, you aren't typing out an essay, because apparently you don't feel the need to flesh out or support your opinion in any way other than simply stating your ridiculous claims like "...(Bayonetta's) combat system is just as button mashy as anything in the genre..." which, aside from being a clearly false statement, indicates that you have limited experience within the genre, and/or no clear idea of what the phrase "button mashy" actually means when applied to action games.

Even if you personally feel GoW is better overall than NG or Bayonetta (ridiculous, in my estimation, but to each his own) you could at least acknowledge the basic and obvious truth that both of their combat systems are leagues better than what is found in the God of War series.

Your opinion is so ridiculously aggressive it's reached the point of caricature. No, I don't feel the need to get that vehement about it so no, I won't type out an essay that you can ignore so you can get back at typing some angsty nonsense about how I must be stupid to prefer one game over another.

GoW is a better game than any of those three series to me. You don't have to agree. You also don't have to call my opinion "bull****". I think Bayonetta is horrid. How can an opinion be bull****? Bull**** implies that there is a correct answer to this, and there isn't.

5 people gang up on me for thinking NG is an overhyped POS, yet on the other hand, my opinion is "bull****" and that's a perfectly rational response. God I'm such a fanboy. :(

It's quite sad indeed to see people gang up on you based on your opinion (an opinion I share with you btw.. especially for sarah palin shooter (I can't stand that game!)) Ng sigma series on the other hand is great to me...but no where near the levle of presentation , story and fun as gow3. It may not have as many combos and weapons as the NG series, but its defiantly a better game to me. I don't rate games on which has the most difficult frustrating bosses. I rate them on fun-factor, presentations, and shear epicness. If a game doesn't have a story( and its in a genre that needs it ..ie bayonetta and red faction geurella , then I am going to ding it down. Simple as that.

I wonder how many of the GOW bashers even played GOW3...I can't imagine anyone playing the game and not thinking its the most epic game in the genre. Even critics who used to be harsh to PS3 games like Sessler gushed about it....

That's fine and dandy for you, but at the same time on System wars why else does anyone post? to debate. if not what else? you know a debate is going to happen anyway. Some judge games on the actual game mechanics, the overall design of the game(IE boss fights, pacing, level design, technical aspects of the game, overall polish, etc). God of War 3 is an epic because it's trying to be an epic. Bayonetta isn't trying to be that, neither is Devil may Cry or anything. They are games that well know they are games. They excell in all the areas that make a great hack n slash game. There biggest knock if anything is story.

We all know God of War as a series has presentation down, but in the other areas of a hack n slash. Like any game in any genre it is not on some pedestal with no equal. Quite frankly quite a few games are superior to God of War 2/3 for personal taste. You love God of war that's your business, but don't get offended by the "haters" as you all want to call them and then do the same exact thing and discredit another series or pull a "sarah palin shooter".

Yeah, it was epic but it ended too soon :( Also, for such a short game you seemed to be running around the same areas a lot. 9.0 seems right (its a superb score, i can't see why anyone would complain :P)

God of War 3 is a great game, but there is enough reason to be argued for some of the other games in the genre. If we are talking the pinnacle of the genre Ninja Gaiden Black trumps it in every gameplay/design area(outside camera I guess) outside of story.

I was talking mainly about NG2 since I figured more people had played it. Ninja Gaiden Black/Sigma do have much better level design than 2, but I found them on par with the God of War games.

I say the enemy AI is better in God of War 3 since the enemies actually try to surround you. The difficulty in NG mainly comes from the poor camera angle and enemies will attack you from off screen and kill you in 1 hit (at least on MN). Or like the Spider Ninja's do and just spam incendiary shurikens at you. I wouldn't call that advanced AI, more just cheap AI to make it seem more difficult.

God of War does seem as cheap to me since normally when I die I can't really blame anyone but myself. On NG I would finish doing an OT to an enemy and coming right out of it one of those dragons will immediately land on me and punch me in the face which takes away like 75% of my health.

I'd even go as far as saying Devil May Cry (1, 3, and 4. 2 was awful) is a more well rounded game than NG. I actually found God Mode for God of War 1 harder than Dante Must Die Mode on DMC3 or 4 (Heaven or Hell Mode is the 1 where you and enemies kill each other in 1 hit)

I will agree that the combat system in NG and DMC are more advanced though. I haven't played Bayonetta yet so I can't really speak for that.

Anyway, for me it goes God of War>Devil May Cry>Ninja Gaiden, but I love all 3 of them

BPoole96

whoa whoa whoa whoa Penalty Flag on the Play.

Anyway, for me it goes God of War>Devil May Cry>Ninja Gaiden, but I love all 3 of them

fair enough on 2, 2 is an abomination. Well it's good. Somewhere in that mess of poor design is a good action game, but what a letdown. Personally I like what God of War does, enough to think highly of 2 and 3(1 is a sack of crap). But my favorites in the genre are NG B, DMC 3, and lately Bayonetta. Bayonetta needed to have more of a challenge to it though, the masochist in me was not satisfied -_-

I still need to get Bayonetta. I was going to get it when it came out but I jusy never got around to it. I'll need something to fill in for God of War since that trilogy is over. I also would like to know what Capcom plans on doing with DMC. It's been 2 years since DMC4 and there has been no word on a 5th one

Either they should do a new action series, or really revamp the formula up a bit. DMC isn't as obvious about its depth as NG/Bayonetta(the move list gives away the depth for those games). SInce the series is more about learning the system and knowing how to work the sty-le gauge. They need to improve on that, and go further with it. Nero's arm was a cool addition that they could have gone further with. ALso fix the level design. Level design in DMC comes off very uninspired. And stop repeating boss fights Don't take yourself seriously. Be cheesy. Stay Awesome and cut down the backtracking less over the top cutscenes though so I can actually take part in the action.

[QUOTE="jethrovegas"]Ninja Gaiden 2 and Bayonetta piss all over the entire God of War series; they aren't even in the same league.Hahadouken
No, they don't. Not even close. Ninja Gaiden is a demo of a combat system dressed in hours and hours of the most boring, uninspired pieces of garbage ever created. No story, horrible level design, horrible enemy design, awful dialogue, terrible music, poor, outdated presentation, bad camera angles. Great fighting system. EEE boobs.. That's NG summed up. Bayonetta? Same thing. A cool combat system with a flimsy ass game enveloping it, targeted at horny shut-in males. DMC4 is another example of great combat in an otherwise empty, dull game. Japan is in desperate nee d of evolution in the action genre in general.

I believe you when you say you don't like Bayonetta, but comments like the one in bold makes it seem like you got really pissed off at his opinion and are trying the "kitchen sink" strategy.

Anyway, I loved Bayonetta because I loved the constant setpeices so I'll probably love GOWIII as well. I'm buying the PS3 GTA expansions first, but my next 50-60 bucks goes to GOW. And I'll have to beat the GOW Collection. I'm really curious about whether I'll like GOW or Bayonetta after playing both.

First, the abuse of Bioshockownz and now this dramatic thread? Man, what is it about GOW that makes everybody so emotional and aggressive?

P.S. GoW3 is better than Bayonetta, Ninja Gaiden 2, Dante's Inferno, DMC4, and Halo 3! And it has better graphics than Crysis! You know I had to add in Halo 3 and Crysis or this wouldn't be a proper SW topic :P

If Mass Effect 2 can get "just a 9.0", then so can GOW3.

with the exceoption of the visuals, gow3 did nothing to improve the gameplay, which isn't all that bad considering the gameplay was already damn good. i would give it an 8.0-8.5

i enjoyed the first two more.

WTH are you talking about? GOW3 was dissapointing...nothing but a tech demo for pretty graphics, both STORY and gameplay are pathetic, especially gameplay, they didn't even bother to improve animations, but recycle them from the past games. Some levels nearly bored me to tears and just done with little effort. While a few boss battles were awesome, the game IMO was indeed rushed and needed another year in dev. 8.5 is what it should have got. soapandbubbles

No they don't. In fact, games in general don't need a huge amount of depth in order to be good.

I wouldn't say they need huge depth either.. but probably would to score 10.. As sad as it is.. Simple hack n slash gameplay and a good story won't get full marks..

Because its GOW2 with newer graphics. The level design after the first level is just boring... there's no multiplayer... there really are a lot of good reasons.

i think this game doesnt deserve 9.0 too, but 8.0

It's not worth for $60, and gameplay is too short and too repetitive on sceneries. Action is good, but rest is mediocre.

Voice acting sounds so sissy, like hollywood b movie. Graphics is aslo not consistent. In some scenes, gow3 looks great, however in many places, it looks like ps2 upscale.
