Seriously, after playing this game, it deserves atleast a 9.5. This game was utter and complete perfection. Everything about this game was high caliber. The graphics, the presentation, the voice acting, the sound, the story...this game was just top notch. I just finished beating the game and I'm still foaming at the mouth from the sheer awesomeness I just experienced. And it's borderline insulting to give this game the same score as Bayonetta! (Awaits Bayonetta lovers :P )

Seriously though, this game is definitely my top runner for GOTY 2010. had it come out last year, I would vote for this game 100x over Uncharted 2 and Demon's Souls for GOTY. What were your thoughts about the game?

P.S. GoW3 is better than Bayonetta, Ninja Gaiden 2, Dante's Inferno, DMC4, and Halo 3! And it has better graphics than Crysis! You know I had to add in Halo 3 and Crysis or this wouldn't be a proper SW topic :P

Because its GOW2 with newer graphics. The level design after the first level is just boring... there's no multiplayer... there really are a lot of good reasons.

Since when was MP required for an ACTION-ADVENTURE game?

[QUOTE="Stevo_the_gamer"][QUOTE="Bigboi500"]Heh. Well, definitely GoW can bring out the best and/or worst in folks.Bigboi500

I will say this, hack n slasher fans can sure bring the passion. :)

I will say this, hack n slasher fans can sure bring the passion. :)

although my sentiments don't cover god of war(as presentation is actually a strong point).

My personal admiration for the genre is that it usually has games in the genre that KNOW THEY ARE GAMES. They aren't over serious and trying to hard to be some serious story. Bayonetta is fun, Devil May Cry is fun, Ninja Gaiden has no personality(so i guess that was a bad example), Onimusha is fun. Throw in a genre that has the most satisfying combat format usually. Killing an enemy is so so so satisfying in a game like Ninja Gaiden far more than it is in say a FEAR, or that big ass monster in a RPG, or what have you.

Great boss fights, break neck pacing, and all kind of great action. Is it going to be some kind of thought provoking epic? NO and it usually isn't trying to be. That's what I love about the genre. That's what makes Bayonetta enjoyable. I don't get butt hurt over the game being shameless, tongue n cheek, cheesy with it's story. Nor do I care that the story is pointless and really only serves to add whatever context it wants.

I don't care that it's not overly immersive nor do I care that it's not some wanna bee epic. IT's A GREAT GAME!. Level design shows some creativity from the developers, the enemies are satisfying to fight and are nice and varied, the gameplay is as deep as any combat scheme out there. What it lacks in challenge of a NGB/DMC 3 it makes up for in pure timing, modern refinment/polish, and over the top satisfaction. Clever boss battles, pretty good pacing, and alternate weapons that actually force different playsty-les and arguably one of the most replayable games on the market.

I don't care how arrogant this sounds(then again do I ever?) anyone that honestly believes there isn't a great game built around the great combat in Bayonetta, is full of crap.

God of War 3 is another game in the genre but what it's fanbase loves about it is different. I just happen to enjoy GOW as well. The action what it lacks in depth, it makes up for in how it's used. What seperates the Dantes Infernos/Darksiders that use the simplistic combat scheme from a God of War is just how they are built.

The series knows how to pace itself nicely from puzzles to action to platforming. The level design is usually very sharp and clever. It can make the backtracking feel like a non-issue. Boss battles in 2 and 3 are designed really well, and the action isn't as button mashey as some would make you believe. It's the easiest of the games, but it's more aboyt knowing which combos to use, when to use them, when not to use them, and how to use them correctly.

Personally I might love this genre far mroe than any genre in gaming. People want to say it's too gamey of a genre, I say that's perfectly fine. It's also one of the most fun genres in gaming, and atleast it knows exactly what it is.

I'm not about to reiterate my opinion of the rating attached to God of War 3 (especially not when most of the thread has been an elitist GUFU-fest). Most people who've posted in this thread already know how I feel when I posted as Chaos_SoS. Suffice it to say, I don't agree with the people trivializing the .5 difference.

I will leave a link though ^_^: Page with my commentary in NAPK1NS' Thread

With regards to the general beat 'em up issue in progress, I'd like to quote myself:

[QUOTE="jg4xchamp"] They lack the challenge of say DMC 3/NG Black, but in design?ChristieJames

Can we define "challenge" please?

In every single DMC game--and Bayonetta as well--all I've had to do is constantly shoot at every single demon for a prolonged amount of time until they die. The only thing that people use to claim these games are at all challenging is the fact that players are graded on **** It has nothing to do with actually surviving the game, but rather pressing the buttons in as creative an order as possible in each stage. To add insult to injury, they made the button modes ultra complicated just to give an aura of what people refer to as "deep" gameplay when, in reality, it just makes the games broken as ****. Ninja Gaiden is one peg below these games in that area: whereas DMC and Bayonetta force you to deal with needlessly complicated button combinations, Ninja Gaiden just breaks the controls and saturates the game with fake difficulty.

In God of War, on the other hand, your progress is graded based on attrition. The act of actually succeeding in beating the game. Despite popular belief, you can't just tap one or two buttons throughout the entire game to get through it. God of War's button-mashiness requires particular approaches to get through the game. Whenever people tell me that God of War's combat isn't as "deep" as Ninja Gaiden's or DMC's or Bayonetta's I always have to struggle not to roll my eyes.

This far into the conversation, I'm aware that people have found a middle ground upon which to judge God of War without using Bayonetta, DMC, and NG2 as a point of comparison. Rather, people have begun to see opposing sets of merits presented by the respective games.

I on the other hand am just gonna bite the bullet and say God of War is simply superior to those games.

GOW3 is one of the best games I have ever played period on any system it should have gotten a 9.5 only cause of the plot being weaker than pat 1 and 2.
