Agreed. The water effects in BioShock are hands down the most realistic I've ever seen.BioShockOwnz
Agreed here too, Bioshock has the best ever.

[QUOTE="munu9"][QUOTE="Harbadakus"][QUOTE="munu9"]No, not so good... just sprite ripples. In Dx10 it will have proper ripples though. (dissapointing, lots of dx9 games have proper shader ripples)The water looks good but are the water physics just as good? As in when you move through it do you see realistic ripples of water move?

Oh then it's not that impressive. If you see some of the water effects in uncharted, they looks just as good if not better as a whole compared to those bioshock ones...
They're just basically like the Kameo water ripples.
Bioshock's water looks the best overall. But doesn't have the water physics (DX10 apparently does).
Halo 3 has some great water physics.
then Im hoping the DX10 PC version of Bioshock will have them.
It will, they said DX10 water will have realistic ripples and foaming bubbles when you(or AI) walk through it.then Im hoping the DX10 PC version of Bioshock will have them.

Lair's water is better looking than that.Elite_Spartan21
Did your other trolling account already get banned.... and now you've registered a new one?
Grow up.
[QUOTE="ParkCarsHere"]True, but the cost they went to get those effects? An entire team of programmers? Wow. The rest of the game better be as awesome as the water... lol.project343
wow, gameinformer rarely gave a game 10 score
they only gave 3 games 10 in whole history.
Zelda TP
Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2

soI guess bioshock must receive 9.5+ in gamespot.

Uh no, if you look at the water in uncharted the ripples are very realistic and the water itself is very clear and fluid. What I meant to say is it very watery water :P Comparing it to kameo is just fanboyism :?
yes. it's shockingly good.[QUOTE="Dreams-Visions"][QUOTE="BioShockOwnz"]Agreed. The water effects in BioShock are hands down the most realistic I've ever seen.reddemon502
Good looking, Yes. Realistic, No
You'd know too, you were the dude who broke the story of BioShock being "Basically the same game as Dark Messiah."
Another shocking revelation.
halo 3 water looks better, but that is just my opinionelite_ferns1The water does indeed look nice in Halo 3, It's great that it uses actual geometry for ripples/waves etc. I know lots of people spent time just messing with it, walking around in it, shooting it, driving through it in the Beta.
It's hard to compare it to Bioshock's water in looks, The location of the water is too different.(daylight vs dark, beaches/rivers vs indoors, Fast vs slow etc.)

Actually no it's not. It's quite reasonable. They're water effects look very similar. You'd know what kameo's water looks like if you'd played it. It reflects objects (including you) and has ripples that continue on till they hit shores and bounce off other rippes as well.
Let me change what I said.
Bioshock has the best water effects such as puddles and streaming water.
Vanguard had the best looking lakes/oceans/bays. Once you got in it it was meh, but on the outside it was gorgeous. No screen shot can capture how awesome it looked. From deep oceans to shallow tropical beaches.
Bioshock does have the best water effects to date, with Crysis ever so slightly behind. Far Cry still, to this day, has very gorgeous water. Also don't forget about Oblivion on PC. With certain mods it has very beautiful water, especially if you also use some atmospheric mods since they add more realistic lighting effects.
In fact Oblivion, with some of the graphics-enhancing mods out there, is arguably still one of the top 2 or 3 best-looking games out there. It's really amazing how much better mods can make that game look, and it looked great right out of the box.

Sorry to correct you, but I've read GI for a while and the following games have scored a ten:
THPS2
Metroid Fusion
Metroid Zero Mission
Metal Gear Solid 2
Grand Theft Auto: Vice City
Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas
Halo 2
The Legend of Zelda:The Wind Waker
Resident Evil 4
God of War

Bioshock
Nevertheless, Bioshock will still score AAA on GS and be GOTY.

In Crysis there is tidal waves. :)
no kidding? wow, now that made part of my day. im hoping i can run it still. i got this qcore 2 quad 2.4 ghz processor and 2 gigs of ram. is that decent?
Pleanty if you have a decent video card.
oooo now i see a problem. ive only got myself a 7600GS. o well, by the time crysis releases, i hope i can snag something higher for a lower price than currently :D im glad video card developers are pushing out new ones very often.
Crysis goes all the way back to the X800GTs..bioshock seems to be the greatest so far

Those pics prove nothing, to appreciate how good the effects are you have to see the way the light realistically reflects off the water.

kage_53
Fears water effects are good, i like it how the water isn't just a texture but geometry that reacts realistically when the player moves through it, but nothing really that interesting happens with the water in FEAR, unlike bioshock were water is poring through a hole in an under water pipe, smashing into walls, and also the light reflects off bioshocks water alot more realistically.
I was impressed by Bioshocks water, but there is this one newer video of Crysis that I saw where the player goes under water and it actually looks real down there. no other game in my opinion has really captured they was light, ripples, and vision distance works under water quite like Crysis. I'll go try to find that video right now.MIYAMOTOnext007
I agree, i seen that video and the under water looked very impressive, but the surface of the water is not as impressive, i might be wrong because i haven't seen crysis running on max settings in high res. Like i said, no other game seems to get the water to move and splash as realistically and the reflections are better than anything iv seen.

I Have to say, Bioshock is in GREAT company... I need this game... and I think that if Bioshock does not recieve AAAA we will not see one in this generation!

thats actually really impressive.
How is it impressive? All thats being rendered is the bath, afew toy ducks and a shark, no detail in the background just an image of clouds and a rainbow. Its hard to tell how good the water effects are but from that pic i don't see anything impressive, maybe if the bath was in a dark room with a lamp on the side of the bath shinning then you would get a better idea of how the water reflects the light which if done well like bioshock makes for good looking water effects, like at the start of the demo when you swim towards the tower, the light on ether side of the steps shine light the looks awesome in the reflection in the water. Anyone who's played the demo will see what i mean.
bioshock seems to be the greatest so far

The water effects are insane i would so love to see them on a high end gaming com.
