(is it for pc or was that mass effect? im not paying attention to these games though they're talked about a lot. is bioshock the one with guy with diving suit metal helmet)?bionicle_lover

you have to play the games to really experience the water. Halo3's multiplayer BETA water was allready incredible.furtherfan

Have you played the Bioshock demo yet? Does the water in Halo 3 flow realistically, fill rooms and put out fire?

four times. and the water EFFECTS are the best in Bioshock. as for just water: HALO3 has the most reaslitic water i have ever seen.

For instance, the water in the beginning of the BS demo (where you swim) isn't that realistic.

that part of the demo was absolutely amazing

so much detail, like the doors about to burst open with the pressure, or the fish

in all honesty after playing the bioshock demo the water though looking nice wasn't as impressive as many make it out to be... most of the foaming during scenes where water is rapidly moving/flowing were just a bunch of translucent sprites, there were very noticeable corners connecting large planes (the crests and troughs) for large scale refraction(the only instances were the water surface showed any sort of geometric deformation) , and all diffraction and small scale refraction were just texture based with nice bump mapping. I've seen more realistic behaving water in other games...but not necessarily 'better' looking aesthetically... in that note Oblivion on the PC has better water reflections (with mods) and Farcry (what is it like 3 years old now?) does aswell but neither of those have any sort of significant water physics... but bioshock's water is still quite nice looking nonetheless...

Actually, I just played it on an awesome HD setup, and those screens don't do it justice. Beleive me, it DOES look better. It's quite incredible.

Actually, I would tend to agree (maybe not "the best" but surely up in the top-10). While swimming towards Avion yesterday I noticed how realistic the underwater view looked and actually had effects similar to those found in Bioshock. Shadow of the Colossus is an amazing game that came out far ahead of its time.

GameInformer : 10
GamesRadar: 10
OXM : 10
OXM UK : 10
Alternative Press Magazine : 10
EuroGamer : 10
Gamer.Tv : 5/5
PC Gamer UK : 95%

:P

wow, gameinformer rarely gave a game 10 score

they only gave 3 games 10 in whole history.

Zelda TP

Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2

Metroid Fusion

soI guess bioshock must receive 9.5+ in gamespot.

Wow you really dont know what your talking about. Two more games they gave 10's to that i can think of right of the bat are grand theft auto vice city, and metal gear solid 2. In fact i beleive metal gear solid 2 was the first perfect score given at GI.

Bioshock's water is crazy. But Lair comes in second place.Timstuff

Only if you're a blind cow, obsessed with an overhyped pile of trash that is Lair. This game will not be AA. It may be lucky to get

Single A ratings. Mark my words.

Bioshock wins, but Halo 3 definitely comes close. I was shocked at how good the water looked in the beta, but Bioshock beats it out for having it's water do a lot of different things.

I think that flickering light on the side of the light house when you climb up the stairs in the BS demois one of the most realistic things I've seen in a game. Everytime I play the demo I just look at it for a second.

Did you wait around near the elevators when the room started filling with water? It put out the fire. It also interacts with the environment when it flows. None of the flowing is scripted (I believe), they set a start point and an end point and let the engine they built do the work. Like when the water flows down stairs. Not only does the water in Bioshock look great but it plays a pivotal role in the gameplay as well. Providing resistance to player movement and plasmid interaction.

Bioshock's water is great sometimes and good at others but wow is it a great game and GOTY 07 but I do think Halo Beta did have water just as good if not better (it moved better ie. over dead bodies it acteded more like water )

You mean where the elevator falls down and the guy runs out covered in fire, or another room?

I didn't spend much time there so no but what I meant by reacting to anything was like in Halo 3, if I were to shoot the water, drive in it, walk in it waves are produced around me instead of a 2D sprite, in Crysis the water reacts to weather conditions and creates waves.. Stuff like that, I haven't seen it.

They're just basically like the Kameo water ripples.

Bioshock's water looks the best overall. But doesn't have the water physics (DX10 apparently does).

Halo 3 has some great water physics.

MADVLAD123

Uh no, if you look at the water in uncharted the ripples are very realistic and the water itself is very clear and fluid. What I meant to say is it very watery water :P Comparing it to kameo is just fanboyism :?

Actually no it's not. It's quite reasonable. They're water effects look very similar. You'd know what kameo's water looks like if you'd played it. It reflects objects (including you) and has ripples that continue on till they hit shores and bounce off other rippes as well.

Are you kidding me? Sure kameo has nice ripples but water just doesn't ripple. Uncharted water is way more fluid and real looking:

And they look way better in motion, plus the quality of image is a bit down graded because I made this pic from an uncharted gameplay video:

Hmm, next time I play the demo I'll wait there to see it. But still other than beautiful overally it doesn't strike me as impressive. The player's movement doesn't even seem affect it.

F.E.A.R has some pretty crazy water effects.

Crysis water is actual 3D in many cases. When it rains everything becomes wet and slippery, and inside the alien ship it's been said that it will be completely physical.

Water. We are hyping water now?

First we hype the game to high heavens, thenpeople post every review of the game and make a 100-post thread about it.

....And now water effects.

My god, this game better not get GOTY. I would love to see the Forums burst into flames :P

Just kidding.......or am I?

i didnt find the water in bioshock as good as i thought i would. The waterfall in the game espicialy, the base of it was some crappy 2d terture.

Personnaly i would have to say the best water system(effects, graphics, physics, etc) would go to wave race blue storm. God i wish they would make i for wii.

True, but the cost they went to get those effects? An entire team of programmers? Wow. The rest of the game better be as awesome as the water... lol.ParkCarsHere

Since the game is set underwater getting realistic looking water is important. It will add to the atmosphere the game is trying to create.

Lol Thats best comment I've heard all month.

It only took one good artist and a great programmer to do those effects. They worked on em for over a year. So haha to yur comment.
