Im so excited GTA is goin back to the west coast, i wonder if we'll get all the cities we had in SA and all the other associated activities in the countryside like dirt biking etc etc?

I'm really genuinely looking forward to this game now we know the location, liberty city was getting very stale for me although Nico was a likeable character.

Graphics are hella nice for a GTA game, for once. :) Incredibly detailed world. It looks nicer than GTA4 with ice mod.

"Developed by series creator Rockstar North, Grand Theft Auto V heads to the city of Los Santos and surrounding hills, countryside and beaches in the largest and most ambitious game Rockstar has yet created."

I like that line but does it also mean its Los Santos only?

^^ you want something crazier?

check the release date of the song from the trailer.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ogdens'_Nut_Gone_Flake

that probably confirms the release date and Tommy Vercetti.

I am crazy or genius, or maybe I am a crazy genius

Ok what are the chances? Or did you little devil edit that wikipedia entry?

Any talk about how this will be different from past versions? I'm a little sad they're making this for current-gen platforms. Seems like a waste of time.

Official Press release:

Rockstar Games this morning issued the official press release for Grand Theft Auto V, providing clarity on a few things. First is that the game is set in the city of Los Santos and its surrounding hills, countryside and beaches. There was some speculation yesterday over whether the game expands to other cities within the state of San Andreas, but I think this gives us a clear answer.

Second is that Grand Theft Auto V is "another radical reinvention of the Grand Theft Auto universe", and is going in a "bold new direction in open-world freedom, storytelling, mission-based gameplay and online multiplayer". Perhaps the "new direction" is referring to the rumor on multiple playable characters.

The story is said to focus on the pursuit of the "almighty dollar" in a re-imagined, present-day Southern California. This more affirms that this is not similar to the GTA3 trilogy's "San Andreas" as was speculated yesterday, so don't expect to see San Francisco or Las Vegas in here.

I'm not sure what about that press release screams bold new direction. Sounds a lot like more of the same. I'm just disenchanted with the GTA franchise to begin with.

so it is only los santos and the surrounding hills and beaches.

im actually quite happy with that, I would like one city with lots of detail rather than a massive map and travelling long distances to get to one objective.

they did say it was their biggest game ever though, and judging by the trailer it has a lot of the scope that san andreas did with planes and stuff.

and it looked pretty atmospheric aswell with the people on the street.

completely agree, there will be way more content in this world than san andreas. Im not bothered about there 'only' being one city im just happy to see planes and the countryside are back in force.

Nice trailer. It is easy to make a good trailer, though. Hopefully they fix the numerous problems with gta4. ...and perhaps change the overall game quite a bit.

Now I hope people relise why I was not hyping it like it's SA as it's only los santos which some were saying I m wrong when I said it's only LS. This gen games are getting smaller because of the graphics everyone loves. On PS2 GTA was not a graphics game but this gen it is and thanks to that the scale is not as large. Well I can say I don't expect it surpass SA. How come they are calling 'GTA5' when the game hasn't advanced enough like GTA3 to GTA4 they should call it 'GTALS'...

and how many building did it have? it was mostly plain grass and mountains. Can you imagine a game compact like GTA 4 as big as just cause? or like red dead? people seem to forget that putting buildings takes more resources than a grassy plain. I noticed you calling this 'game of the generation' maybe? but I see this game flopping compared to SA sure it has pretty graphics but at what expense? smaller scale, too me that was why GTASA was so loved the sheer scale with different cities with uniqueness but now it's just 1 city again. Well my hype is gone in all honesty, as this gen's graphics wars has really ruined gaming for me as the gameplay has to take a step back for graphic.

Perhaps. But how much of the environment in Just Cause 2 was actually unique? Honestly, for how massive the world was, the majority of the settlements were just copy and pasted, and that's not even talking about the large amount of open space with nothing in it. I don't know why they made Just Cause 2 as big as they did. It wasn't necessary. There's only so many settlements and bases you can go to in that game before you realize how much of the game is copy and pasted. And this is coming from someone that thinks Just Cause 2 was the best game of 2010.

Just Cause is a lot of copy and paste but it did have the most varied map in a videogame.

Well, that's because GTA4 is my gotg. And how is it going to flop?In what way?Because it's not as big as SA? I didn't mind the smaller scale, the gameplay made up for that. It's not necessary for a game to have a huge map.

I see some people already defending it because it's rockstar. They should've done vice city instead if they couldn't handle San andreas because too me it's going to feel like a step back from GTASA and no I don't care how pretty the graphics are like other people here, GTA has always been about gameplay for me but it seems this gen it's just going for pretty graphics at the expense of everything it used to be. GTASA had bad graphics on PS2 but I never heard anyone complaining because of the sheer scale of the game but this gen they have to please the graphics crowd.

Just Cause is a fun and great series, especially the second. But, in no way does it transcend GTA in terms of quality. Rockstar are gods, and their games cannot be beaten.

Yes. But in terms of pure hype and pre-awesomeness, Rockstar cannot be beaten. They are one of the Gods of the industry, nobody dares to mock with. Because Rockstar are always right, and their games are not always perfect, but full of brilliance nonetheless.

I thought the gameplay was just fine, even better because it had proper gunplay and driving mechanics..Sure,things are missing like jumping out of a plane but I couldn't care less.

Please, just listen. Los Santos in GTA V will be nothing like Los Santos in GTA: SA, compare it to the difference between Liberty City in GTA III and Liberty City in GTA IV. Saying that the map will be smaller just because it's only one city is, frankly, completely and utterly wrong. GTA IV's Liberty City had roughly the same map size as San Andreas, the reason people complained there was not because the map was too small, but that the map didn't have the sense of scale, the map variety of San Andreas, not because the map was smaller. Los Santos and the surrounding countryside, in GTA V, will be, mark me words, bigger than the entire state of San Andreas, Los Santos will be much bigger than all of the cities in San Andreas combined. Saying that GTA V's map will be smaller for the sake of graphics is completely, wrong, most notably because it will not be smaller. Rockstar don't simply re-use the exact city from a previous game for each iteration, they completely re-model it, and Los Santos will be no different, and frankly, I fail to see how people aren't recognizing this, it's mind numblingly obvious.

Thats why there were planes in GTA 4... OH there weren't any because the city was too small that it took 10 minutes with a helicopter to go across the map.

Yeah thats why they have the highest rated game of all time on metacritic, across all platforms. Plus RDR which is in the top 20 with a 95 out of 100 score.

Rockstar always made my favorite games and this hasn't changed this gen.

Temporarily. The last time a GTA game and a COD game were released in the same year, what happened? Yeah, GTA IV outsold it. As time goes by, the user base of the consoles increase, which is why new big games sell more. It's why COD sells more year after year. COD will likely have another annual release next year. Do you honestly think GTA V won't outsell it? Of course it will. The hype for GTA V is going to be insane. Next years COD game? It may well be hyped, but interest in that game won't even begin to approach the hype GTA V will get. Ever heard the phrase "absence makes the heart grow fonder"? Never mind the fact GTA V will advance and improve the series way more than any annual COD game will ever do. Never mind the fact the overall game will destroy COD in terms of quality. The sheer fact that GTA has had such a long absence means the hype for it is going to be insane. You'd be surprised how much love a franchise gets when it isn't milked. I guarantee GTA V will outsell next years COD game, and you can quote me on that if you like.

Yeah, Rockstar are simply masters of the gaming industry. Maybe not the absolute best, but has always been one of them...

[QUOTE="viper-kid"][QUOTE="landofcookies"]Just Cause is a fun and great series, especially the second. But, in no way does it transcend GTA in terms of quality. Rockstar are gods, and their games cannot be beaten.burgeg

Cod has already beaten them in terms of sales...

GTA will not outsell the next CoD game... Because that will be the sequel to Black Ops, by Treyarch... It's going to be insane. It may come remotely close, though!

I don't think so, but we'll see. Just know that I've got my I told you so thread ready for next year. A part of me wants GTA V to come out in November just so it's directly competing with the COD release date. But the other part of me wants to play GTA V a lot sooner than that!

In rockstar i trust. I can't remember of have played a bad GTA game.

Stay calm and wait for further information about the game, it's almost certainly that the game will be awesome..
