GTA4 delayed till 2008.

This was by far the cows biggest system seller for holiday 07. Without Halo3 is going to wipe everything in out into convenant space dust...

they couldn't finish the PS3 port in time, and didn't want to give the 360 a free timed exclusive - fact. it's the stupid cell extending development cycles. 360 was the lead platform.

Microsoft was relying on Halo/Madden/GTA trio to take over the holiday. Most people know Sony is going to have a piss-poor holiday this year if it goes back up to $600. Yeah, I see the PS3 being $500 in the holidays though. Don't you think they'll throw out the motorstorm bundle and drop the price of the 80 GB after a couple months? I think they will do that at the end of september. I mean they can't sell a motorstorm bundle during the holidays.... People want the cheapest possible deal, and they want to pick out their own games in the holiday season.

I also see them introducing a stripped down 40GB PS3 without any PS2 hardware in it, no WiFi and no SD slots etc... for $399 around the end of september as well.

Finale-

This is actually good news. With the XBox 360 Core being discontinued at many retailers, GTA IV will most likely be one of the 1st HDD required games for the XBox 360. They won't have to struggle to have this game work on the Core system and neither will any other developers. Of course M$ hasn't confirmed this yet, but before Nov 23rd I'm sure they will.

I'm not saying that Halo 3 will sell most of all time or anything like that. But I'm quite convinced that no other game will outsell Halo 3 this year.

Take into account that it will also be released exclusively on the Xbox 360..the console which currently has the largest user base out of the three consoles out...

Your right. GT5 won't outsell Halo 3. There are 3.5 million PS3 owners and 11.2 XBox 360 owners. Halo 3 is going to easily sell over 4 million copies. The PS3 don't even have 4 million PS3's in gamers homes and it's unlikely every PS3 owner will buy GT5.

Good, this packed holiday needs to be spread out. I'll gladly take GTAIV in the slower months.

I have to agree, and am actually kind of glad as well. As there are already too many games that I will be buying for both the 360, and the PS3 this year. This just gives me one more game to look forward to next year. Definitely a delay that I do not mind for a change.

I for one am buying an X360 simultenously with my Mass Effect purchase :P

Fans of BioWare (which are in the millions) will follow this game through and I firmly believe that it will boost sales. Not in such significant numbers as Halo, but it will still be significant.

Those games will sell well, sure, there's no doubt in my mind about that. But they will not be able to compare sales-wise with Halo 3, especially since both of those games will be competing against each other.

I'm not saying that Halo 3 will sell most of all time or anything like that. But I'm quite convinced that no other game will outsell Halo 3 this year.

Not only am I basing this on the absence of a strong competitor, aka GTA 4, but we're talking about an extremely popular franchise here. Take into account that it will also be released exclusively on the Xbox 360..the console which currently has the largest user base out of the three consoles out...

how can a shooter be in competition with a open world crime game..... doesnt make sense totally different genres

You sound as if I'm comparing them as the games that they are. I'm simply comparing them in terms of popularity. There simply is no game that will be able to compare with the sales of Halo 3 now when GTA 4 leaves the month of October entirely open for Halo 3. Your right. GT5 won't outsell Halo 3. There are 3.5 million PS3 owners and 11.2 XBox 360 owners. Halo 3 is going to easily sell over 4 million copies. The PS3 don't even have 4 million PS3's in gamers homes and it's unlikely every PS3 owner will buy GT5.

Q2 is March - May, October is Q4. But their Q2 starts on Feb.

This does suck, PS3 and 360 needed this to slap the Wii around and save the industry from casual games and decades of underpowered systems! I won't buy a system until this game comes out!
