You just act like everyone has to agree with your opinion. Well they don't. And your not gonna convince anyone that Half Life 2 isn't as good or bad as they already think it is.

Doom is. It still hasn't been surpassed by any game whether it be Painkiller or Serious Sam. And without Doom, there would not have been an "FPS genre" and no Half Life, no Deus Ex, no System Shock, no Halo, no nothing.foxhound_fox

If we look at things in a "when they were realesed" kinda way. Then I would totally agree with the CHoice of DUKE NUKEM 3D as the greatest FPS ever.

I could agree with you on this fully. But from what I've been playing in Deus Ex it seems that it really, really deserves the title as the best FPS of all time.mo0ksi

deux ex on steam is i think only 10..its a great game, but i never played SS2..

i agree deus ex is definately up there. For some reason i could never get into half life 2 it was boring and monotonous for the most part and the appaling driving sections killed it for me.

Its hard to pick a favourite but my top few would be Deus ex, goldeneye, wolf 3d (enjoyed it a lot more than doom and played it so much when growing up) and Halo 1 because playing with my brother was so much fun and it had so many great moments - like when you landed in over the beach

I thought that was the games only flaw. Go play Half-Life 1,the soldier AI in that game can actually mesure up to current-gen AI. Ofcourse that could simply be because no devs seem to really be making an effort with AI anymore,not since FEAR (but Clear Skies looks promising)

ok first of all HL2 had HL2 Deathmatch which was a MP mode for HL

So what if the main charater dosent talk..it dident hinder my experience at all..

I tend to agree about gamespot. That's why I use metacritic.

Remember when HL2 came out, at the time it was the best shooter available.

Now that many games have adopted the innovations HL2 did and moved into more modern improvements I can see why some people may have difficulty appreciating it today.

The only thing I didn't like about HL2 was the ending.SpinoRaptor

Story-wise, it was abit abrupt, but when time stops and the gman comes in from no-were it's one of the coolest thing's I've seen in a game.

Reading raising the bar, the alternate start to halflife 2 would have been awesome, I wish they used it.

I like how when something isn't flat-out amazing, it suddenly becomes "garbage". :roll:

Half-Life 2's AI was perfectly fine, and functioned quite adequetely. If you want to see actual poor AI at work, play this.

And for some reason people don't seem to get the point of a silent protaganist; Gordon Freeman is supposed to be you, the player. He's in the story, but its not really about him, its about the characters around him.

Thing is.... HL2 (the first game) ... I didn't much like the hovercraft sections. And like any FPS, it gets repetitive.

But, the characters and story in Half Life 2 stand out for me.

I actually preferred Half Life 2: episode 1 in a way... and am yet to play episode 2.

The original Half Life 1 was quite good too, but the last levels were a bit of a pain.

I guess Half Life isn't perfect, but I can't think of any FPS off the top of my head that I prefer.

I will say that the original Halo is great though (on the PC.)

Remember when HL2 came out, at the time it was the best shooter available.

i started playin HL2 again, because i just decided to buy HL2:epi1 and 2.

eventhough i havent all those great present shooters(COD4,BIOSHOCK,FEAR,HALO3...)

HL2 was a revolutionary game as how people look at FPS.
