I was a huge fan of the first two MP games, but the third game was easily the worst in the series.

Sure, MP3 has better gameplay than Half-Life 2, and HL2 may not be much of an FPS, but HL2 is still an incredible game (in the same way that Oblivion is a terrible RPG, but a decent game).

HL2 came out 4 years ago.

It had the grav gun. and it was awesome.

Yeah it has puzzles and a ton of shooting, when it does crank into the full action sequences.

Its just a decent balanced game, a flowing story. which is more than any other fps can offer.

I just finished Half Life 2. The game was good, but definitely not the best fps ever. I put Doom 1,2,3 above this, as well as Half Life 1. I also liked Red Faction more. I'm sure there are other games out there that I'd say I liked more than this.

One thing that was a bad sign was how I felt when playing. Pretty much the whole way through the game, i kept hoping that the game would be more engrossing. Instead, for pretty much every section, all I could think was, "how much longer until I get out of this area" (especially the boat and car sections).

It was really cool when I was in the citadel and I jumped aboard one of those things that ran on that track, and rode through the facility. The atmosphere was very cool. I also like the part where I had to work my way across the underside of that bridge.

and lmfao at anyone who thinks so. what are the two core rules of fps design? shooting and avoiding being shot. hl2 has lacking shooting mechanics and poor ai. i don't give a damn how great your games pacing is, how good your physics are, or how lifelike your facial animations may be, it doesn't mean jack in the world of fps design. even the level design is severly boring and linear. although i will say the way they flowed together was cool. add to that a main character with ZERO personality, and you have a completely bland game. its said that his most defining trait is his pase black framed geek glasses. also, the story is complete and utter nonsense, something that HL fanboys cling to with white knuckles. but like i said above, shooting machanics and terrible ai are chief amoung the impotant fps design aspects. hl2 fails on many levels but by no means a bad game. just completely, and horribly overated...ninjaxams

anyway i have never seen the appeal in half-life, i prefer my shooters more... intense? although thoroughly enjoyed the metroid prime series despite that.

well that would be Half life:Counterstrike aka CS 1.6, but for some reason that dosent count in this board due to the fact that it was a mod and was released for HL1.

Objectively half life 2 is a very good game.

Of course it's not the best FPS ever. It belongs to this title.

well hl2 has some of the best story telling and pacing in any fps but I have to say I like farcry's level design much better and hl2 seriously lacks weaponsimprezawrx500

I think Call of Duty 4 sucks, but not quite as much as Halo 1 or 2. What did these overrated games bring to the industry? Overhauled physics, gameplay, AI, story? No, just better graphics and an online experience people go crazy for. Compare Half Life 2's campaign to either of these games and it easily stomps them. But I'm certain you haven't beat Half Life 2 and is probably the kind of gamer who skips all the cutescenes of a game so you can get on with the killing. Half Life 2: Deathmatch and Counter Strike Source are both online and come bundled with HL2.

yeah the gravity gun rules but the other weapons are pretty meh, well the assult rifile is ok but the smg is just plain awful

hmm, Metoid Priem. never played it. Metroid Prime, however, was pretty good (even if I felt Prime 2 was superior in some areas).

Half Life 2 is overrated.

But the original Half Life deserves the honour of being the best FPS ever.
