i believe that other FPS will overshadow whatever halo 3 brings to the table in terms of gameplay. even rfom will make it harder for rfom to get a higher score. i have yet to play rfom and i havent obviously played halo 3 but im sure that they are both great.

lets begin with the good and the bad about rfom. the game has good graphics, detailed and varied environments, diverse weapons, good ai, good online mp with up to 40 ppl and no lag, etc. what score did it get? 8.6 why? it was a generic fps.. a good one that did everything well but failed to bring anything new. another example is zelda tp, the best zelda game ever made in many ways but its familiarity with previous zelda games and a cookie cutter formula got it a score of 8.8.
other games on the 360 will also hurt halos score. gears is an awesome as is rainbow six vegas. how good do halos graphics have to be to give us the wow factor that gears gave us? will halo have better team tactics than vegas? will halo 3 be as interactive  as bioshock? will it be as vast as mass effect?

halo 3 is not an original ip anymore... how much can it satisfy us apart from the fact that its halo and we are finishing the fight?

tell me.. what will halo 3 bring to the table apart from possibly slightly superior graphics? how much can it bring to the fps genre that has been done before or that will be done this year before it? how good can fps multiplayer get?

 a part of me wants halo to be a great game because i plan on playing it someday and hopefully further justify a purchase of a 360, another part of me wants halo to get a low score to behold the chaos that would ensue in system wars.

You have many points here. Not to mention Metroid Prime 3 will give Halo 3 a run for its money. Not saying MP3 will get a higher score, but I'm pretty sure I'll like MP3 more, mainly because it's single-player is better, and since my mom doesn't go for online unless it's free, I won't be able to even taste the awesomeness off Halo 3's online without going over to a friend's house.

And I think you may be right...but you're operating on one HUGE assumption....that Halo 3 won't, in fact, bring anything new to FPS genre.

That's the real question...and no one has the answer yet.

That was well written and although I disagree on several points I respect the way you posted it. Now...

A) Gears is in no way a threat to Halos' score, neither is any other game imo.

B) Graphics are in no way a threat to Halos' score either, it's all about gameplay.

C) Graphics don't need to be a "WOW" factor, the action will be far more intense than Gears plus the name itself IS a big wow factor for many.

D) As far as satifying goes, Halo 2s' story was supposedly wretched yet it remained tops on XBL for over 2 years straight.

E) It brings the "console king" back to the table, plus we don't know enough to say that it won't bring anything new.

F) Halo 2 online brought nothing new and people claimed Halo 1 multiplayer was better, yet see "D."

G) Halo 1 and Halo 2 are two of the most critically acclaimed console shooters in history, I'm not a gambling man but I sure wouldn't bet on Halo 3 getting anything less than AAA.

if halo 3 gets a good score it is better for me as well as all gamers. so even if ppl try to won me i dont care because ill be busy enjoying the damn game...

instead of saying that i fail at life and that halo is halo why dont you try writing something intelligent...

tp and rfom are both quality and very polished games that ill take any day... same with halo 3... even if the score is not as high as fans expect it will still be an awesome game that i will buy.
