Sorry but you can't hide behind the "you didn't get it" excuse. I played all 3 games when they came out and the story was so easy to follow.
It just wasn't very good. It was predictable (black guy sarcrificing himself and dying with a ceesy line? lol) and it just wasn't very intersting. The Halo universe had potential but I don't think they pulled it off in these games.
Are you kidding me? The entire story in general was subpar, circulating around the most unimaginative character I have seen in a while.. A super solider able to take on a billion aliens, wearing moto cross gear, and has the mentality of Rambo.. Ironically enough his first name is John, which was Rambo's first name..sSubZerOoYeah, Master Chief is a really ****y character, imo.

agreed, I can only hope that some day, a talented dev makes a WARHAMMER 40k shooter.

 Johnson isn't a super soldier. Have you read the books?

Rambo's character has much more depth than Master Chief, and what kind of name is Master Chief? Two words that mean the same thing into one name. That always bothered me for some reason. I really wish they just called him John.
I agree. Only Halo CE had a story that amounted to something decent plot-wise. At least the gameplay remained pretty good, despite how light and uninvolving the story was in Halo 2 and 3.Sorry but you can't hide behind the "you didn't get it" excuse. Sure sure we can go on about the books.. But thats not the game now is it? Those books were made form independent authors.. Not the devs them selves.. Now you can go on and on about this.. But it clearly says "HALO 3, was one of hte best stories".. Not its novels, not anything.. And from what I have read of the snippets of its novels.. It no where compares to other sci -fi universes such as Warhammer 40k.
i could say the same about MGS4... but i think halo1 had the best, maybe it was nostalgia but the only thing 2&3 did was multiplayertiger35010
Thats the thing though.. Being a fan of neither.. I can at least say from what I have seen of MGS4, it has a much better story with characters you can actually care about.. Halo 3 seems to be a bunch of other characters hijacked form other series.. The Black seargent for instance, was clearly ripped from the guy in Aliens 2.. Hell alot of their gear look nearly the EXACT same.. Then we have Master Chief, a guy that shows no emotion.. You can not see his face, is never given really any moral dilemas in the games.. Personally when playign through with myf riends, I ddi not give a crap what would happen.. I had zero connection to any of the characters..
Maybe you guys need to play some games with real story OTHER then shooters..

Good point about not caring about the characters. I'm litteraly not joking when I say I was laughing when Johnson died. me and 2 friends beat the game over Xbox Live and I was just laughing and so were my friends.

It's not his name, it's his rank. Google military ranks.
But, I do agree with you that the story is not great.

we are talking about the VIDEO GAMES..
Seriously you can not put in books to read to some how "get the story".. Because the video games them selves had veyr little story.. They had some professional author basially create a new story.. To make matters funnier this would be like me claiming that Dawn of War had a great story.. When it didn't, it did have some novels around it, as well as an entire universe full of books.. But THAT IS NOT THE GAME..

I thought Dawn of Wars story was awesome. The books really put it over the top.

Yeah that was easily the most disappoing part of the game. I did a facepalm in real life. The last scene with master chief floating in space inside the remnants of the wrecked ship was pretty good though. It almost reminded me of Halo CE, plus the music was just awesome.
Say what you want about the Halo series' storyline but the music is some of the best in the videogame industry.
allot of people were complaining how halo 3's story didnt deliver the goods. well, all i have to say, you either didnt get it or didnt pay attention to the previous 2 games. its for the hardcore fans in mind. its all about the characters in halo 3, where they end up. character development usually begins over a period of times. you didnt play halo 2's campaign?(wich probably 50% of the people didnt), you missed out so much. check out my 20min summurized halo 3 story http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ccQGf55rhMs
it just shows how brilliant the game is, and how MC sarcrificed himself for humankind...
edit: link was FUBAR, its fixed nowpapi_lekker
I played and beat Halo 3, and i STILL dont know what the story is about lol, i just like shooting grunts lol, and the gameplay was addictive and fun along with the MP, but the story was meh, MGS4, GTA 4, Mass Effect all have great stories

yeah i agree here. i did like the end scene with the master chief floating in space. the music is one of the most memorable for video games ever. simply great music
Whislt the halo story is not the best work Ive seen out of Bungie in the Story telling department (MARATHON is...:P) the plot was an enjoyable experiance.
The mystery of the forerunner Halos and the mystical Covenant on one side and all the cliche Characters spitting off one-liners whislt going toe to toe againest an intergalactic Parasite on the other. The game even had a ripe sense of Humor! :)
Negative, it was terrible.
Abosolute mess, terrible story telling, woeful dialouge, and some of the worst character in any game.
Also some terrible 'tiwsts' and 'emotionally provoking sequences', that had reverse reactions of 'lol wut' standards.
Not to mention the best and most complex character, The Arbiter was turned into a mindless bot.
One of the most underwhelming things about the game in my eyes. Especially about the talk of an 'Epic finale, to the story' that we had to 'beleive' in.
A pity as I was hoping it would shed some light on those damn massive plot holes (thanks to Halo 2)

Master Chief is a rank in the army IIRC, so its liek being called Sarge, or Flight Commander.
The Arbiter was a much better character than MC in my opinion, I love the Arbiter, hes the best.

Agreed. Arbiter was probably the most interesting character in the Halo series. It's like Bungie forgot about him in Halo 3.
a solid gameplay mechanic is far more important than story in my opinion. story is nice, but it is wrapping paper
Lol @ poeple saying Halo Has no Story.....shows how much they know
You might not like the story and i can understand that, But definitly has a flushed out story.
Personally there was two things wrong with Halo 3s Story IMO one was that there was no suprises. It seemed like i completely expected everything that came at me, and the Arbiter took a step backwards.

Shows how much you played cause he never sacrificed himself. :|
He got killed yes but he never, dived in front and took a bullet or whatever the hell you think happened, he just got caught off guard and killed.
The story was great, far better than *most* first person shooters, the people that disagree are purely just haters of the 360 or the series, like the guy above me, shouting off his mouth when he has no clue.
I'll repeat it: For a first person shooter, the story was great. Most first person shooters have little to no story.

I guess I can call Crysis' story great now.
Mass Effect>Halo 3
I still love Halo 3's story though, it's deep, has a lot of references, and is pretty engaging with good characters.

How?
What sort of an argument is that WELL U SAID IT HAD A GOOD STORY FOR A FPS SO ALL FPS MUST BE GUD STORYS LOL K
No. That was the entire point, the story in Halo? It was better than crysis, was that cause it's stretched across 3 games and countless books (and yes, the books do count, of course they do if I've read up on the books I'm going to understand the universe better, get to know the characters who are in the books and the game BETTER.), comics and whatever else Microsof has pushed it into? Probably.
But it had a better story than Crysis and a better story than most FPS so how anyone can claim it's bad, unless there completely crazy and expecting it to be an RPG is beyond me.
