"At a minimum, you'll need at least an 8GB USB Flash Drive or an Xbox 360 Hard Drive to play Multiplayer mode in Halo 4," reads the official Xbox.com product page (via OXM). "For an optimal experience playing with an Xbox 360 Hard Drive is highly recommended."

It's possible that the recently revealed Spartan Ops campaign, which will eventually feature 12 "incremental" hours across 50 missions, will increase required HDD space even further.

Yesterday Microsoft released a teaser trailer for its live action Halo web series.

Meh. Most Acrade owners aren't interested in Halo anyway (they are probably the ones who just bought it to get Kinect for parties, ala Wii), so it won't matter. Gamers who happen to own arcades and game intensively enough to play Halo multiplayer will probably have upgraded to some sort of hard drive anyway.

Isn't this for spec-ops? That's totally justified, cosidering it's downloadable content anyway.

That's early damage control. Most arcade owned dont care about Halo? LOOOOOOL Halo is the only reason anyone cares about the 360, ofc arcade owners care about halo. What a noob.

Why would I be damage controlling the Xbox, you idiot? I bought an Arcade, I own one. I bought it because I didn't have enough cash upfront. I then upgraded it to a 250GB harddrive as soon as I had the chance. Anybody who bought an Arcade Xbox for anything more than the Kinect will probably upgrade to a hard drive as soon as they can. Heck, even those who're just in it for casual experiences will at least attach a 16GB USB stick to their Xbox, because most of the media functions won't work without extended storage.

same here, i always install.

As do I, but with my 120 GB HDD getting cramped with all the arcade games and DLC, I typically only have 1 or 2 games installed at one time, and then removed to make room for the next.

Halo 4 must be at a minimum on 2 DVD's then. It may even be on 3. This is good really, it means the game will have some content lol. Odd for an MS game to have such a large mandatory install though. I'm sure thats about the same as the gran turismo one.

it will be the first xbox game to require an install IIRC.

Didn't Halo Reach need one for the multiplayer mode too?

Yes, one game installing for the Xbox versus like every second game installing on the PS3. Totally comparable

I'm almost positive it required a hard drive... Or did it require one, but not to install data?

Lems will be forced to sit and wait for 8GB of data to install!

Poor Lems!

It's time to give back what you said about PS3's mandatory installs.

On a serious, non-fanboyish note - This isn't good as some people like me only have 20GB hard drive and we would be forced to upgrade to play this. I hope Microsoft will take note of this and use upgradeable hard drive and Blu-ray in their next generation console.

The primary diffeence being that the Xbox can install seven different games, and make a cup of coffee, while the PS3 installs ONE game about 44%.

Don't forget about the Arcade 360 owners... Microsoft is crapping over them and they don't care. Typical of Microsoft.

I'm actually very pleased that Sony have decided to use upgradeable hard drive and Blu-ray to overcome a storage problem like this.

Oh, and putting a hard drive in every PS3s built is a smart idea. The Xbox 360 Arcade model is absolutely ridiculous.

Or just get a PC, since it seems that the 'pop in the disk and play' aspect and actual thing that consoles had over owning a PC, has ben gone for years now.

your sentence reads very badly is what i meant. brains.

what are you trying to say?

MS dont care that they are crapping on arcade owners OR that arcade owners dont care that they are being crapped on. you used very poor english there.

we know the arcade model lacks a hard drive, so do the people who buy it. if they want to play halo 4, they can buy a hard drive / flash, if they dont want to play halo 4 and cannot afford £10 for a flash drive, F*** em, perhaps they should get a new hobby.

who is arsed?

Er, what? Poor English?

I'm sorry but this is ridiculous. Many people are going to switch to PS3.

Who the hell would like to buy a USB flash drive to install the data in it, and insert it in the console every time they play Halo 4?

On PS3, you don't need anything. It has EVERYTHING built right in it. You don't have to buy bits to turn it into a 'complete' gaming console.

Many people who I know have switched to PS3, including my brother. I'm sorry but what the Xbox 360 is offering is ridiculous. No games, Xbox Live fees, DVD and non-upgradeable hard drive - What the hell is this sh!t?
