Halo Great FPS or Greatest FPS?

How has Halo evolved FPS? I don't see it. The original Halo was a good game but I don't understand why people say it evolutionized the FPS segment.

Two things...

Rechargable health

Intigration of Vehicles

Those the the two that stick out the most. But there are a lot of minor things that halo has capitalized on.

The importance of melee combat

The intigration of gernades and how you deploy gernades

The pacing and controls of console shooters.

That's what I was referring to. Unless I misunderstood.

I simply replied how Halo evolved the FPS market, and those things have been cloned into other games such as Call of Duty 2 and 4 most likely due to a result of Halo. I, nowhere in that post said that Halo invented those things.

But seriously, it's a damn fine FPS, but to call it the greatest is rather...opinionated, especially when it didn't even manage to win GOTY.

Deus Ex is at the top of my list of my favorite FPS ever. Halo doesn't even touch it, not even with a 100 foot pole.

Halo is a great franchise no matter what anyone says. Unlike bashers of the franchise, i have tons or website reviews and articles on the game praising it and backing me up. I bash it because it did nothing to advance the genre. That's a legitamate complaint for a series of games that's supposed to be genre defining. Everything any of the Halo games did gameplay-wise had already been done better by some other game prior to Halo 1. Polished? Yes. Innovative? No.

For me it is the greatest FPS, i still play it regularaly now and have no intention of EVER stopping (Halo 3 BTW)

EDIT: Wait oh well i forgot about Half-Life 2. I guess for me its a draw between between them two

I disagree, but I guess I just expect more from games than you do.

I played Halo and Halo 3.

The small blue and purple aliens with the kiddy american accents screaming 'You Bastard!' and 'Oh My God!' kinda put me off the whole thing.

It a good series but its very much aimed at children.

Halo 1 is a great game.

Halo 2 and 3 are good.

Halo 1 is far from the greatest shooter.

Halo 3 - Decent

Counter-Strike, Unreal Tournament, Quake.

Those are the big three, I'd say.

It's all personal preference, of course. But just in terms of gameplay, I'd say those are pretty unrivaled.
