i wnat to see just what sony has done to gaming. and so far, though i've been misunderrstood, i've found some things. but, they've still done less than the others.

they have done more then Sega and MS....and i forgot to add the eye toy and true controller vibration and not some 50 dollar add on pack...they also were the first to have dual analogs for a controller

well, does the eye toy REALLY count? no body followed it.

but the other ones are good. , but what do you mean with "true" controller vibration?

Game industry includes PCs whether or not you state them in the argument ... console industry sure but you didnt state that. Thats like not incluing super car manufacturers in the car industry and then stating that the things they pioneered dont count in with the rest ..... just because you verbally omit something doesnt make it not relevant. Setting standards includes everything gaming industry.....

[QUOTE="white_sox"][QUOTE="themyth01"] MS brought HDD into consoles as standard, something essential nowadays. Sony has done one thing right, to copy. They copied the 360 controller with their Home button, they copied Wii's motion controls, they copied XBOX HDD in every console, they're copying XLIVE... but hey it's not a problem really, as long as you provide the goods, all is well. stereointegrity
The PSP has a home button, in fact the button is actually called "home".

that is true....they were the first with a home button

oh, whoops, better edit that.

That's just an imitation of Nintendo's controllers. Shoulder buttons were first seen on the SNES, and analog stick was first on the N64. And having two sticks instead of just one did surely change the dynamics of control, but still, it's simply expanding on an application that already existed.

With 4 edits do you think Sony still hasn't contributed much?

Kids these days, haven't even experienced over a whole gen of gaming and they think they know everything.

sony impulsinated CD/DVD formarts into the indrustry by using them in their consoles

you are so straightforward thinker, so "ungratefull" and BS that you completly forget how mutch sony did for gaming, and even dare saying MS did more..

only 2 edits contribute to sony...

but the point of the thread was that i could ask a simple question: what has sony done to the industry.

and now i've recieved a lot of replys to that question, so its been a sucess.

it wasn't to try to make sony look stupid.

You can't be serious. SNES had an adapter that let you put NES cartridges in the SNES slot and could be played on that system.

We are talking about in-built and not adapter based. Only nintendo has that, but in-built is a standard now, wii, 360,ps2,ps3

Sony shuttered the reign of Sega & introduced disc based gaming. Sixaxis, also the fact that we are still using such a historical controller 3 generations old is a statement in it's own. First & only Blu-ray gaming console is the PS3. First DD only portable gaming device. Released the most innovative PS3 game to date(Little Big Planet), some of the best games of all time are a huge contribution of the Playstation 1 & 2, & now 3. First successful & fun 60 person multiplayer mode on consoles. BTW God of War alone set a standard for all action/adventure titles. Great comeback on the once low selling PS3. Re-modeled PS3 created a huge surplus for the gaming industry. & believe me i just pulled this crap out of my *** Sony is great. /thread

Ok so I am not ignoring your post. What does this Sony hate have to do with anything that your above statement just made. You made nintendo look like the god saving grace of gaming, microsoft look alright and sony....well you just had to go there. Last time I checked the first generation of nintendos contollers this gen were so gimmicky that they had a redo and made them better so they could work right. As for your love of nintendo I will admit this. Back in the mid to late 80's they did wonders for gaming. I stopped spending all my quarters in machines at stores and played quality games at home. There controllers were awesome at the time and mario brothers was the game of all games it was the god of all games in fact (back then). I'll give my due respect to nintendo yes, but to todays standards nintendo sucks. Nintendo is not the same as it was back in the day after the dreaded atari. I mean a huge jet pilot looking stick with one red button...cmon nintendo was a saving grace. Might as well face it all consoles and companies have changed gaming, but from my standpoint no one has changed gaming like nintendo did back in the 80's, well except pc.

4 face buttons as standard and under-analog stick buttons.

Since this thread seems to value incremental improvements to gamepads, while laughing at setting optical media standards...

well, he said that there have been dual analog sticks for every controller since the dualshock... but thats not true, because the wii-mote doesn't have dual-analog sticks. fact

Then how is an in-built hard drive a standard?

MS started it and made it standard?

Actually pc started it, but the point has been made that sony made good and important contributions to gaming :)

not with the wii-mote;)

gamedude234

lol.. why would wii mote use that?

analog is used for aiming, wii mote uses sesors for that...

you know like the eyetoy?

He's partially wrong, I guess. It seems you forgot this (Notice even the placement of the sticks):

Does this mean the Wii doesn't use the Wii mote? No, I'm just pointing something out that gets easiliy overlooked on SW.

All of us gamers have benefitted from the Sony Standard, the Twin analog or Dual analog standard we've seen in consoles today.

oh thats a good one also even tho they have some what abandoned that

that one goes to the game boy colour actually. and also to the SNES

so it was standard for all the gameboys software and accessories to work on the gameboy color? and the same for NES and SNES?
