no unless they were planning on selling 100+ million like their past systems. I dont think they were though seeing as they priced the system $600.
next to no profit made for sony, 3 sales periods of losses, no profit at all from psn, less content on psn in arcade games dlc and full ps3 downloads compared to the direct competition, lower sales world wide total, lower software sales monthly and total world wide, less games released, less high scoring games.....the direct cause of going from the unquestioned dominate force in the game industry to 3rd place...

Sony never failed, they did a few mistakes but look at them now, stronger than ever and tons of exclusives, PS3 best cosole this gen for me.
Launch price and the lost of some PS2 exclusives IMO. Personally, it is my favorite system for this gen even though the online pisses me off sometimes.
No they're not "stronger' than ever. They will never EVER be as strong as they were during the PS2 era.Sony never failed, they did a few mistakes but look at them now, stronger than ever and tons of exclusives, PS3 best cosole this gen for me.

Okay first you wanna make sure the area is clear of danger. *looks around* And then you wanna pat them on the back three times. Then ask if they're okay. Then you-oh it died.:(

Even better than PS2 if you ask me, i never been this addicted to gaming before and never purchased this many games before during the ps1 and ps2 times. not only is this gen the best gaming gen yet, i also think ps3 the best conosle sony to release. i used to only play JRPGs and look at me now, from action games to puzzles to shooters
Oh forgot to add they single handedly spudd out their security efforts on their online service putting the identiities and possibly the credit cards of ""77"" million users and caused the service to be taken down for 76 days total.

Do you have proof of that? Because I certainly do. The loss of tons of exclusives, loss of marketshare, going from selling a 150 million to selling 1/3 of that. I'm not asking about your opinion. I'm asking for hard evidence. Just because YOU say so doesn't mean it is so.No they're not "stronger' than ever. They will never EVER be as strong as they were during the PS2 era. Well I don't know about that.[QUOTE="finalstar2007"]

They obviously made a massive slew of unforgettable mistakes that cost them much more than many may have released.
Launching a year late, too expensive, too hard to develop for cost them their biggest asset... the Japanese developer.
If the PS3 had not used blu-ray, had not used the cell and went with a normal higher end processor at the time it would have been cheaper and more effective because developers would have been able to make better use of it.
People seem to forget how everything snowballed and fell into MS's favor, so many exclusives became multiplats because of how badly the PS3 launched. If the ps3 had just been 299$-399$ at launch it would have destroyed this generation on name alone and the Japanese market probably wouldn't have been forced onto gaming and developing almost solely on the handhelds

qft. ps3 is a failure on pretty much every conceivable level.

You might want to wait until this gen is over.;)
I know you are soooooooooo happy that 360 has a tiny lead in total sales(which gets smaller every week), but it's pretty much unanimous that starting this year, 360 has lost to ps3 in exclusives. And i mean exclusives that score well and are not for kinect.
This year looks pretty bad for 360 and next year will prolly be worse. MS has shifted focus to kinect and family friendly games in what they believe is where all the money is due to the success of the Wii.
Enjoy it while you can:P

Yeah I mean, remember how bad the PS3 launch was for us in the US/Europe?.. But at least then we had stuff like Resistance FOM and Uncharted and Warhawk in the first year or so... Litterally there was NOTHING that appealed to the Japanese on the ps3 until MGS4 so as bad as it was here it was 1000 times worse in japan. The 360 wasn't really an option because it was alot more expensive over there and the faulty hardware repelled them a lot more than it did us. And I don't think the developers or games wanted to go for the Wii either because of the low tech. I know it was better than the handhelds spec wise but its a different experience gaming on a handheld, it was something that felt new and appealed to everyone over there so thats where everyone gravitated to.
So the decline of the japanese RPG and games from that market in general isn't getting worse or declining, its still really strong except its just on the handhelds now simply because there was really no viable console in the Japanese market for almost this entire generation. I realize that the PS3 is a lot better now and cheaper and people have figured out how the hardware works, but by the time they fixed everything it was already too late and things were set in motion. People should never forget how important the launch of a console is because it can define and entire generation even if it corrects the mistakes the stigmas of what happen will last for its entirety.

honestly your probably one of the first people that "without bias" explained the whole ps3 launch thing to me...i knew it was bad but i forgot about the japanese market
I know not everyone here will agree, but in my estimation, Playstation Home was, is, and will continue to be a terrible failure for Sony. donalbanemillions of people are on that service, how is it a failure

lol. this was said to Nintendo ever since SNES. now, just look at the Wii and DS. every gen we have those giant sellers. that does not stop Sony from beating the PS2 era. same with Ninty. MS has no real chance since they are basically nonexistent in Asia and South America. and by Asia i also meant Middle East. since, you know, Americans don't know Middle East is a part of Asia.

:? not sure if serious.
this forum myth needs to die already! The PS3 was released in late 2006 and it released with a great game in Resistance on day 1. The following year in 2007 awesome games like Uncharted, Heavenly Sword, Ratchet & Clank, Warhawk ect were released. In 2007 the PS3 had more awesome games then the 360 has had all this year! They failed with the price and games at the start of this gen.
