What does resolution mean?
The resolution of apicture refers to its sharpness or clarity. When photos/videos are saved electronically, they are converted to pixels (picture elements), which are the smallest squares of visual information a computer can use. The greater the number of pixels, the higher the resolution. High-resolution pictures are larger on screen and look better when viewed.
Which means that any Pc running above the native resolution above the console's it looks clearer and sharper. (Most consoles games dont even have a 720(1280x720) native resolution, and games like CoD:MW2 run at 1024x600....sad)
I hate to break it to all the consolites that are in denial, that your current consoles were outclassed even when they were released. And then in 2006 they were even more inferior when the mighty Geforce 8 series came out.
Now What does video memory mean in terms of looks?
Simple, allows the game to draw(show) more effects, textures, and store information. Now the both consoles only have 256mb of video memory so in most cases graphics tend to look good. But with modern Pc graphics cards with 2x-4x the memory will allow more detail, performance and effects appear then consoles.
The limiting factor with the consoles is the system memory which both are basically limited to 256mb of ram. Even thou its fast ram it can not store more then 256mb of information at any give moment. Which leads to small levels/maps, short draw(viewing) distances, less objects, items on screen, Now Pc need more memory to allow the use of an Operating system but are able to store more information at a moment. Most modern true* Pc games can use up to 2gb of memory, which tends to show what it can do in the games, larger maps, more things shown etc.
