Like I remember when xbox 360 first came out and every game blew my mind. At this point though even though graphics are getting better, im used to them. Theres been no game in recent memory for me which I was really wow'd by seeing it. Last game I can think of is Gears of War when it first came out...and the Lost Planet demo before that.

I know what you mean. Certain games are impressive looking, and I'll find myself saying "That's very pretty", but overall I'm used to it nowadays.

Besides, after Crysis, everything else looks bad. j/k

Graphics by themselves have stopped impressing me. However I think ART design and style are the new graphics

Take Shadow of the colossus for example. One of the best looking games ever, it could totally pass as a next gen game because the art design is really really well done.

Like crysis might have teh big phat graphics, and I played both of them at max and it looked amazing. But imo MGS4 looks better, because the art design and style imo is just way cooler.

They still do now and then, but you get used to HD games, however Uncharted 2 imo is breathtaking for a console game.

Graphics don't really impress me as much. I've seen Crysis and it's not going to get that much better...

I was hyping Uncharted 2, not because how it looked visually (it still looked great), but because of everything else. The superior layered animations, action, and everything going on on screen...

I would agree on this. Aquaria is a 2D game and its graphics are gorgeous. Some of the best art design in a 2D game.

I'm definitely past the "wow" factor this generation. But I certainly get distracted when there's something wrong with them.

As another poster already mentioned...I am still very impressed by some of the art styles that are showing up. Borderlands was very impressive, and almost as fun to look at as it was to play.

obviously a gen shift will have more of a wow factor and that can't be topped until the next gen shift. In the middle of this process, only really good looking games will impress you not those that look good or decent. Eg: Bioshock 2 don't impress me with their graphics but a game that looks like UC 2 does :P

Three years of classes in Maya kind of ruined me. I nitpick any CG in movies, and only Pixar can reliably impress me.

happened last gen to me... I never thought Crysis looked that good despite the level of graphics I play it on, and my PS3 never "wowed" me to begin with.

Luckily sometimes devs still make fun games ^^ the saving grace of the industry I think.

Somewhat not impressed anymore by graphics. Thats why games like The Last Guardian and Heavy Rain have really caught my attention. Both look to have great gameplay and stories. And they both seem poised to push their respective genres alot further then most games. Believe it or not I loved Uncharted 2 more for the cinematic feel, characters, and gameplay then the graphics which were/are pretty great to look at.

You know what I find amusing? While Crysis is a fantastic looking game, I hate the animations. It is some of the most broken animation and sure its nitpicking, but animation is a big part of the visual experience. Its always annoying to me when you pick something up how your gun just vanishes in favor of your left arm coming on screen and then disappearing into a janky return of your weapon. Say what you will about the fantastic technical side of the game, the animations downright contrast them.

Graphics have affect maybe my knee-jerk reaction to a game because, well, that's the easiest thing to notice right off the bat.

But once you get into a game, graphical fidelity falls to the wayside and things like game mechanics, story and sound design become more important to the experience.

Dragon Age is a great example. The graphics look almost last gen. But the voice work and gameplay really elevate the game above the barely passable visuals.

The last game to really impress me was NG on the Xbox. Games now have impressed but not nearly as much as NG did back then.

Crysis did when I saw the modded pics tho.

Well it's hard to say considering graphics haven't really improved in the last few years, the whole industry is cost stunted.

High graphic games are expensive, expensive games go cross platform, cross platform games become console limited; and the whole purpose is defeated.

They have made games that bit more polished, that bit more utilization of fixed hardware, but we haven't had anything set a new technical complexity bar since Crysis in 07.

I haven't been "wow'd" for some time. Crysis probably was the last game to get a wow reaction out of me. Everything else is just below it. I get more wow out of artistic direction nowadays more than anything. Technical graphics just don't impress me, because of Crysis.

I'm still impressed, mostly when I play low budget games so my standards for graphics are much lower, I was astonished when I first saw character portraits with moving mouths and slight animation.

Well, when I first viewed Gears of War on the 360 running in 1080i I was blown away (on a whopping 50'' monitor). However, I have been spoilt, and no longer do "good" graphics impress, usually the game now has to include a fantastic art direction for it to make any impact.

from a technical standpoint....ive stopped being impressed really. the last games to impress me were oblivion (im a sucker for a big draw distance..what can i say :P) and crysis (which also has a long draw distance....and is hugely technically impressive..double win). there are many other great looking games out there.....but nothing really ground breaking and nothing has really set a new benchmark in graphics technology since crysis.
