Since devs have chosen to make games just for consoles, graphics have stopped improving.Hellsing2o2
They are not making games just for consoles, they are making games for the lowest common denominator specification, which are consoles.
Same result but different meaning.
I agree with this from a technical standpoint - having played Crysis with everything on full (no AA, though, as I can't see the difference between 0x and 16x AA,) at 45FPS, I'm pretty hard to impress from a technical standpoint. That doesn't mean I can't be wowed by artistic graphics - I think Wind Waker is one of the best looking games I've ever played, - but my networking card alone could probably run it :P.linkthewindow
graphics is tech.
visuals and art are separate. ones subjective the others not.
yes
when i was playing my 360 on an SD i was impressed
then i was impressed when i played games on an HDtv
now im not impressed anymore... you kinda get used to it
ogvampire
Now go back and play a PS2 game and you'll be impressed again.
Oblivion never had that great of graphics in the first place though....the draw distance was huge but everything in the distance looked like mush, like n64 mush.I'm still impressed. When I take a good, slow look at the older games like Bioshock, Dead Space, Fear 2, I am amazed at the quality of graphics. I wonder what I will think of the newer games.

I still kinda get impressed by some stuff, crysis ruined it for me this gen though tbh lol
before that though the only games this gen to blow my mind were kameo (simply because it was the first game that I would honestly say is a graphical powerhouse) Assassins Creed and Gears of War.
Not really in the way You mean it. I think i've been wowed like once or twice in the past 10 years.
But some artistically cool games surprised me. Wind waker, oh man. Marvelous.
I find it's getting harder and harder to 'wow' me in terms of game's graphics. Almost all of them are about pushing polygons these days, not in the trying to be an artform like Muramasa, or Okami was.
I would much sooner put down a game with cutting-edge graphics and bad gameplay, than one with so-so graphics, and excellent gameplay.

i reely hope graphics dont go past this i do not want to play a game that is a mirror image of reality...that wuld defeat the purpose of a game2 me

You're crazy... You're crazy man. You're Crazy. I like you but, you're Crazy.
lol i culd c it now me playn sum game on a nex gen console that looks as real as ME!!...oh yea i like ya 2 broXD
Crysis ruined graphics for me but I still do get impressed....the last 2 games to impress me were Uncharted 2 and DiRT2 on the PC

Well, it was like that for me too when Crysis came out. I haven't played it for a while now so things are looking a bit more impressive.

Yay for recycled, dead arguments? The only game on Earth that matches this description is Lair, but people still use that argument...
Most games that come out don't impress me like they used to, as a large portion of them are just about on par with everything else that's out there, but every now and then there will be a game that makes me stop dead in my tracks, whether by just pure graphics or artistic value. Uncharted 2, Demon's Souls, Muramasa, Dead Space, God of War I/II, and I even think Final Fantasy XIII, Heavy Rain, and God of War III will have that effect on me. There are other examples, but I just named a few that really impressed me (that I've played).
So when you saw next-gen games at the time they didn't impress you?Graphics stopped impressing me after the dreamcast.

I played Uncharted 2 (demo) today for the first time. Yeah wow... amazing looking game. Couldn't believe a console was pulling it off.
I have had a 360 since UK launch and a PS3 since Xmas 2009 and the main games that have made my go wow! Gears of War, nothing on a console came close when it was first shown / released. The cut scenes from MGS 4 and Assassins Creed (free running one) and the Facial Animations from Mass Effect 2. Other games of note are Alan Wake and Heavy Rain. Severely over hyped games like Uncharted, Kill Zone 2 and Halo Reach for me mean only dissapointment due to the hype. Obviously notbad graphics by any stretch though.
Games will always continue you to impress, I think its more to do with Art Style than how many AI on screen or how many polygons a game pushes. If it immerses you in the experience, kinda like Avatar the Movie does, to me thats more important.
i am spoiled but now when something unique like sf4, prince of persia or muramasa comes along i am much more impressed by it.
Graphics on PS3 and 360 no longer impress me. The "realistic" graphics they attempt to create with their old hardware bores me. However I am still impressed by both wii and pc games.
However I was very impressed with Mirror's Edge's lighting and King of Fighters XII's sprites.
Nah, people seem pretty ungrateful to me if they do. Its nice. Even after playing crysis max, I still admire beauty you get to see in games for any system with any type of art style. Its the luxury, and curse we have been introduced to this gen.
I stopped caring about realistic graphics ages ago, now I'm all about art style and how good it looks rather than looking at it from a technical point of view.
The thing here is that many people confusing graphics with art and atmosphere.
A simple example.
Crysis engine , though graphics , are way better than uncharted BUT uncharted come close just by looks , both art and atmosphere.
So have graphics stopped impressing me. I could say yes , since most engines are powerful enough for extraordinary graphics , especially on PC. BUT then again im still wowed with some great games , just because they got something more than regular games when it comes to ART design or overall atmosphere ( DEAD SPACE for example)
Its complicated , but all in all. Graphics ofc do matters in the end. Everything that feels more close to reality , makes games even more alive.
i still appreciate it on the PC but i'm definitely no longer impressed by console graphics, also i got spoiled by crysis
The last game I bought with good graphics on a console was MW2. Personally I'll be buying PC versions from now on in where possible.
It's the same thing as last gen, the pc pulls ahead after a certain point. Although there isn't that many good games for it this time round and most of what there is tend tobe console ports I'll stick with it. My next games will be AVP and BF:BC2 both for the PC. The graphics are just so much better.
