Of course, a lot of these problems have now been fixed by Microsoft, or are at least in the process of being fixed- but that doesn't change the fact that they took us for monkeys and spent at least some time trying to push what was at the time the most unappealing gaming console of all time on all of us.
So while some of us might have forgiven them, it is to the others that I pose these questions. Have you forgiven Microsoft for their terrible decisions with the Xbox One? What terrible decisions? These ones-
- Their initial DRM reveal.
- Abandoned first party.
- Forcing Kinect on people.
- "We have a console for people who want to play offline- it's called the Xbox 360."
- $500 for a console that was weaker and in most parts of the world a worse value proposition than the competition.
- TV TV TV (misguided push and emphasis on multimedia content at the expense of actually securing real, meaningful games).
- Effectively dropping the price of the console by $150 within a year, screwing over early adopters.
- NOT supporting Kinect beyond one game, except for in UI, and then not even supporting it in the new UI with the NXOE, further screwing over early adopters who were forced to buy the console with Kinect and now have a glorified camera and microphone on their hands which doesn’t even work with anything on the system.
- For having a terrible, terrible UI, that keeps getting worse.
- For having less number of games than the competition and worse versions of most multiplats.
- For keeping their own audience from enjoying multiple legitimately good games by enforcing bullshit policies such as the parity clause.
- For designing a giant console which somehow still has an external power brick the size of a toy poodle; meanwhile the PS4, a far more powerful machine, has no power brick.
- For ruining Halo (yes, I know Halo 5's multiplayer is supposed to be pretty good- but the campaign is terrible and the game is the lowest rated in the series. Even if we consider the MP to be great, the game itself is not on par with the OG trilogy. Oh, and of course, this being the first game in the series to include microtransactions).
- For running Forza into the ground.
- For still using AA batteries on their controller.
- For having a firmware update every month. Jeez, MS, did you learn nothing from the PS3?
Again, I realize that a lot of these problems have been fixed or are being fixed- but that doesn't change the fact that they existed in the first place, and they existed because MS took us for granted. Have you been able to let that go? Or do you still not trust MS?
