Heavy Rain has a better art direction, despite Crysis' technical superiority.

Kez1984

World Of Warcraft has better art direction than heavy rain, despite that fat man.

Yawn.

World of Warcraft has a mediocre art direction. Heavy Rain seems to have a strong art direction. In the scenes, you'll notice that all of the colors are very specifically chosen to create a certain mood.

His face texturing is overdone. It looks like it was scrubbed with steel wool and then it healed over or something.

Either that or he had acne all over his face.

He actually looks worse than the close up of the fat man's face.

pyromaniac223

It's called stylizing, it prevents uncanny valley, if you look at his eye's in the cut-scene they look slightly lit up. Heavy Rain is also stylized to aviod this. If you watch the Heavy Rain video when she talks to her little recorder it clearly gets dead eye syndrome and fails miserably like Mass Effect.

I'm not talking about eyes I'm talking about skin.

I was referring to both. You can say what you may, It ain't no Crysis.

Heavy Rain has a better art direction, despite Crysis' technical superiority.

Art direction? Seriously? Both went for a realistic look, although Heavy Rain is in the suburbs, and Crysis is in a jungle.

Heavy Rain has excellent use of color.

other than the charcter models, the rest of heavy rain looks fairly unimpressive. but people percieve it to look good because of the blurdiped

Hmm ... you're right, there is a blur.

Heavy Rain isn't even close to the best looking game ever, not even on consoles. Other than those pretty faces, everything looks nasty.

The enviroment textures are low-res and it makes the whole scene look very muddy. I don't need to play the game to see that. There are sharper looking games on both consoles and PC.

Crysis and Crysis: Warhead.

I'm not impressed with Heavy Rain so far. Graphically it's great, but not the best. We need to see more gameplay.

Crysis visually doesn't look much better.

Show me a female character in crysis with a close up that looks better and i'll shut up.

have you played crysis on very high at a good resolution? the character models are BY FAR the best of any game out right now. every aspect of crysis graphically is the best of any game. i thought mass effect had great character models til i saw crysis. the asian girl named rosenthal looks almost like your watching a movie in any scene shes in, especially if you step a few feet away from the monitor. its the detail and the animation. best by far

are you for real? why would you include Heavy Rain in the running, offcourse that game would win. it has nothign to render, it should NEVER be compared to a full fledged game such as Geow2, Crysis, or anything else. thats ridiculous, if you use all the consoles power to render on room and call it a game it will be the graphics king for two gens in a row. you cant consider these games up for the running its ridiculous. you people REALLY NEED to start taking SCALE into consideration when talkign about any graphics king.

But what are you talking about? World of Warcraft has cartoonish art, stylized like a comic book. Heavy Rain has an artistic direction more like a film with camera filters for specific hues of color.

What's the phrase they use to describe a perfectly set up developer screenshot? Usually of higher quality than the actual game?

Whatever that phrase it is difficult to get ultra zoomed in screenshots in Crysis, the characters rarely stand still long enough to get a good shot. Even so one took by the player during game play will be difficult to compare to one taken by developers; who have all the tools to make the shot perfect.

Crysis does a very good job of being cinematic.

It's not purely the graphics. You can play the game on much lower settings and still get the cinematic feeling.

Well I jumped through all my Crysis saves to find the best place to take a picture of her, but even this situation wasn't very good.

To zoom in on her face enough I had to use the binoculars, which of course added a green shade to the colour and TV lines. She's indoors so won't be benefiting from light based shadows or sub surface scattering on her skin, all the other scenes you meet her are either night or too hectic to get a decent shot like this.

Keeping in mind what I said earlier; take it for what you will.

Other than that, its graphically superior to Heavy Rain.

hakanakumono

*Raises hand*

But I am.

You're making excuses, the first thing that happens when someone loses a graphics argument is "teh art style" coming into play. From what I've seen of Heavy Rain, it looks like another standard neutral beige/brown/gray "serious" looking game, because apparently those are the only colors you can use nowadays to set an eeire tone.

Adding on to that, HR appears to be an adventure game, which are never as graphically intensive as, say, a sanbox shooter. Of course it's going to look good, but that doesn't make make it graphically superior to Crysis, which looks better anyways.

Furthermore, by hyping the graphics so high, you're stealing attention away from the fact that Heavy Rain looks pretty interesting in the way it plays.

So no, Crysis is continuing to be the reigning graphics champion, but that doesn't make HR look any less good.

I've already said that Crysis > in terms of graphics technically.

The last screenshot posted in this thread makes the game look really really bad though.

well the one above it was taken also by me on the exact same settings just not during a cut scene. i zoomed with the binoculers.
