That's not *always* true though, outside of graphics, Deus Ex is a better game than Invisible War, Star Fox 64 is a better game than Assault, Metroid Prime 1 is a better game than Metroid Prime 2, SSBM is a better game than Brawl, Pikmin 1 is a better game than Pikmin 2, Halo 1 is a better game than Halo 2 (and until the mappacks, Halo 3).

Hell, Mario 64 > Mario Sunshine. Series don't always move forward, that has nothing to do with nosalgia - simply that the hammer doesn't always strike the same place twice. Remember, I don't believe in platforms - my only concern with a controller is pure haptics, my concern with a game is pure design. In that way, when I say " x > y " it's a rather pure assessment.

Obviously there are some games that got better over time, and some games where you have a toss-up (Animal Crossing GCN vs Animal Crossing DS.... I'd say customizable tiles, online play and headgear are pretty big).

The Xbox 360 is doing what the Wii does with VC -- though Microsoft doesn't have two decades worth of titles to fall back on, but with Microsoft and its "Xbox Originals" program -- it's, in essence, the same thing Nintendo is doing. Wow, you agree with me and simultaneously hate the way you agree with me (or the way I present what you agree with) what a paradox :P.

I don't think you should inheriently hate something that is the byproduct of my own work though - if I were a talentless hack or some guy presenting a million GIF images as though I created them, sure, but it's certainly something that takes effort and is the byproduct of talent. If you can hate me for that well, hate the arrogance, not the product.

I don't take credit for Avant-Game - THEY (the union) did something right - I just had the sense to say "let the union make its own decisions" - that's it. Believing that freedom and intelligence would combine into something beautiful? I don't think that makes me "better" - I think that's something most people can appreciate. The success of Avant comes down to its members (speaking of which - post more often :P) not my participation.

Well Xbox LIVE originals requires a far more expensive add-on (5 ~ 10 gb games and only a $150 hard drive to make that happen?) and isn't nearly the same as getting games from all different systems and multiple generations on one system. That's a far more impressive achievement. The ports on XBLA don't cut it either. No title screens? No cheat codes?

I would not "not own" No More Heroes, even if I'm not initially a fan of it. It's a game you're obligated to buy as an art gamer simply because it is different. I mean, I'm not going to play Ikaruga as many hours as a I play Too Human or Halo 3 - but at the same time, we need more games like it, if only to break the stagnation and keep things fresh.

My 360 is in no state to war anyone, it has a hard enough time keeping itself alive. Just had its 3rd life saving operation, and I suspect this time it has gone to live on a farm and been replaced by hopefully a sturdier brother.

I think you are ok so long as its one of the new models. If the turn around times (time to be fixed) are anything to go by they don't have many breaking anymore.

That's what I've been doing for quite some time - but the reality is people try and make a "game" of it - fighting fanboys and owning them, even in a humorous sense, feeds that fire. If we did more topics like this and could get more interest in creative topics, rather than having "360 pwns PS3 graphics" threads get the attention, it would be a wonderful thing.

It's less than a Wii, has a three year warranty, and the RROD isn't much of a problem for new units. *shrug* In all honesty it got turned into more of a thing than it was by people who don't own the system - kind of like the Wii GPU issue, or the PS3 disc-read error. It was a sucky thing if you had a launch era 360 though.

It's the whole problem you an I have tried to talk about before, subrosian. We keep getting trolls because the masses shower them with attention (in some cases praise, immortalizing them), so the obvious approach for many people is "I'll make the stupidest topic I can 'cause I know people will respond and my name will go down in history". And these completely overwhelm the quality topics actually trying to debate genuine issues between the platforms.

But this isn't exclusive to online message boards either, the lowest common denominator rules all facets of public forum, from paper to TV press :( :(

Well, a bit of it has to do that this gen is kinda tame.

Well part of the problem is that the predictions we made (myself included) were rather obvious when we removed the blinders. However, I think we still have a large contingent of people fighting against the future, because their console of choice has an outdated technology or service.

I find that frustrating, "graphics don't matter" for the Wii, "discs are better than digital" for the PS3, "exclusives win", for the 360, and "better hardware, better graphics" for the PC - and it just turns into a thing that isn't positive.

And well, it is true, things are tame, it is a big money industry now - you don't have Sears going "yeah, we've got 2 million, we can design a console!". So - it is more stable - the shifts are planned, the games are multiplat, and even the "flops" are still pretty playable games compared to two generations ago.

Or maybe it just gets old - E3 2007 was lame, as was E2 2008 - but the reaction to Nintendo's E3 2007 (which wasn't as bad as E3 2008) as bigger - it was more of a shock. And at this point was anyone surprised when FF XIII went multiplat? I mean, really? So - I don't know if it's that there isn't a controversy, or that the opposing sides on it just lost a long time ago.

You don't hate you sub, I just think it's petty to create threads stating that you are the owner of a console. I have a 360, Wii and gaming PC myself... and I got all of it without making ridiculous comments about the companies who create the systems.

I know you have a history on Gamespot, and that is awesome, I know several who respect you, but this is a "fundamental difference between our policies." (:o)

Anyway, have fun with the Wii, it really is a good system with some stellar games. 2009 looks to be the next 2007, so get ready for new material (unique too). :)
