People are starting to put walkthroughs of it on youtube

Here's the opening 32 minutes of the game

hanslacher54

Worth noting that tutorial missions are always rubbish for anything beyond demonstrating the basic functions of the game.

But I will say that the HUD noticifations are completely daft.
"VISIBLY ARMED" it splotches across the screen. It seems to me that the intentional act of drawing your gun would suffice in letting the player know that, yes, you just drew your gun. In case the player managed to forget what he just did, there's a constant icon on the lower right showing what weapon you've got equipped. Also, the character visibly carries the gun in his hand.

I don't get why that's a thing they felt needed to exist?
Ditto for the "NEAR BODY" notifcation.

You can turn off "hints", but then that also turns off ones that might be preferable to have on. If that's even what that option does.

[QUOTE="Xaero_Gravity"]PC Gamer review: 62/100 "A passable stealth game, but one that betrays almost everything that, until now, has made Hitman great."

Pros - Nice looking locations - Contracts mode is good, although not an adequate replacement of a proper Hitman game - "One very good mission" near the end, but still not as good or as free as Blood Money Cons - No saving, checkpoint system is awful - even an AI glitch can lead to you having to restart the level, also doesn't save data such as disguises or items you've left, and guards killed will respawn - Focus on (embarrassingly bad) story over gameplay - PC performance was awful, they tried out on 3 different PCs - two can run Skyrim smoothly yet get 15fps in Hitman on minimal settings, with occasional freezes of over a second, and load times of over a minute - A lot of gameplay involves you getting to a door to trigger a cutscene - The amount of kills you have control over how they're executed is about 25%, even then it's not as expansive as Blood Money - Equipment system - can't choose weapons in main missions, or carry weapons over between missions - Guard AI is strange, they will sometimes detect you walking where commando rolling wouldn't get you detected - "Sneak by covering your face" idea is laughable - DRM on Contracts mode - can't play any contracts, even your own, offline

Ouch. I better not lose my SW bet. :x Source: NeoGAFhanslacher54

Yeah I saw that too :(

I guess I'll add that to the review section. I also heard that Game Informer gave it an 8.75, but I can't confirm it.

ohh the PC version. I wouldn't be surprise if it's just a bad Pc port. And wth.. sinse when does hitman have checkpoints in the missions ? hitman doesn' use checkpoints because it might be saved at an instance where it won't take long for you to fail the mission or if you wanna try it some other way. Idk what game he thought he was playing. I wonder if that person played mario kart thiking there was quest to be picked up along the way to earn gold to buy a fishing rod and wish and then save the game on the 3rd lap.

Well this was the game I was looking most forward to but looking at the Cons in that review, my hype sure went down.

From what I've seen, the story looks personal for 47, and it shows off his human side a lot more than previous games. Also the main antagonist is a huge douchebag.

Really looking forward to it, watched the first 3 levels online and looked good.

I think gamespot will give it a 8.5/10 and metacritic will be around 80-87%

I thought it was maybe going to get around a 8.5, until I read that PC Gamer review. It kind of made me disappointed but the other reviews seem good so that's good. Maybe about an 8. on here. And I agree with Goyoshi12, He has a point, there are a lot of good reviews on the game but only one 6. I know the Sniper Challenge really doesn't show gameplay, but does anyone have it on here? How is it and what would you rate it?Gau0123

There has been other reviews so far aswell (9 and 8.5/10), also PC Gamer gave Max Payne 3 a 5/10 and Dragon Age 2 a 9.4/10 and said it was one of the best rpgs. Id wait till more reviews come out, PC gamers review is just one review score. Also gave Farcry2 a very good review. Personally i thought MP3 was much better than both DA2 and FC2.

Well have to wait and see how it turns out playing ourselves I think with this one.

ffs IO, don't **** this up. The worst thing that could happen to the Hitman series aside from it getting forgotten would be its becoming generic and losing the whole stealth focus. And that's why I don't like this whole Eagle vision BS.

You know that you can play in purist mode, which gets rid of all the instict powers, right? I also don't see how it's any less of a stealth game. If anything it will be more difficult than Blood Money because running makes people much more suspicious and people can see through disguises much easier.

Yes I do know, and that's why I'm still hyping it. It's just that the fact they thought of adding such things makes me a little apprehensive.

EDIT : This was what I was afraid of. Here's what PC gamer magazine thinks of it - "Hitman: Absolution is a mess. The police do not expect Blood Money is involved" and "A passable stealth game, but one that betrays almost everything that, until now, has made Hitman great"

I saw that review, but there have also been four very positive reviews (8.75 or higher).

Yes, I know, but I give more credence to PC gamer as they've actually played the earlier games (plus the reviewer looks like an old timer Hitman fan, so his concerns seem similar to mine). Of course this isn't a denouncement of the game in general. Just something that might spoil it for me. I can understand and appreciate other guys having fun with it.

I think it'll be good, despite being cynical about it. I've liked my Hitman games from the first to Blood Money (which I adore), so I'm quietly optimistic it'll be good; as long as it sticks to the sandbox and not the scripting.

Apparently, some people got the game early, and are posting footage on Youtube... I'm significantly less impressed now:

1. A lot of the levels are really small.

2. The checkpoint save system doesn't save a lot of vital information, like your current disguise, guards already killed, etc. For example, if you reload from a checkpoint, the guards will have already respawned and you are often stuck with your suit.

3. No ability to customize your loadout before a mission starts.

4. Most levels are very linear - get from point A to point B.

5. A lot of the assassinations are cutscenes, not you killing the person personally.

6. There is far too much emphasis on the crappy story that IO has put together.

7. Very few (if any) sandbox levels are to be found.

Absolution plays more like a traditional stealth game than the open sandbox game that previous iterations were.

Hmm, the game looks pretty short, too. This guy was rushing, but he managed to complete the game in only a couple of hours. Looks like 5 or 6 from my count. 12 missions total. Some of them don't even take more than 20 minutes to complete, especially at the easier difficulty levels. Some of them take like 30 to 40 minutes.

Oh, and the story... They put a lot of effort into the narrative, and while it's well-told, I don't find it unusually compelling.

I have reviewed this game, although I would like to remain anonymous. I can honestly say that the comments Mr Francis has made about the game are entirely false. Assassinations are NOT cutscenes any more than they are in Blood Money (IE an animation once the 'accident' is set up or whatever is the way it's always been it's not a cutscene because you're either choosing to stick around and watch in full control or you're already making your escape or whatever, NEVER is control taken away from you).

As for checkpoints THEY ONLY EVEN EXIST ON LOW DIFFICULTY. Meaning this reviewer played it through on easy or medium and since he claims to be an experienced Hitman player, he should know that these difficulty levels were not made for him. He has essentially failed to do the job he has been paid to do.

The 'pointless' objectives (open a door) refers to exiting the level once the hit has been complete. YOU HAVE ALWAYS HAD TO EXIT THE LEVEL ONCE THE HIT WAS COMPLETE.

Some of the levels are small, sure, but THERE ARE FIFTY OF THEM.

The AI is fantastic as always. 47 is the catalyst. Mix him with the AI in any way and entertaining (and often unexpected) things happen. Just as they always have, but way, way better than ever before. The story is, admittedly, quite poor, but it's also irrelevant. It ties one playground to the next by a thin thread and that's all that matters.

Do not listen to Tom Francis. He has failed to do his job and speaking as a fellow reviewer, in my opinion deserves to be severely scolded for it, both by the general gaming public, who he has failedf, by the developer and publisher of the game, who he has failed, and by the company he works for, who he has failed. Once you lot get to play the game, you will immediately see how FACTUALLY incorrect this review is. It's chock-full of out and out lies.

I was reading on a website about the PC Gamer review (The 62/100 one) and I saw this guy comment under it and apparently he already reviewed the game and thats what he wrote ^^^. I hope hes not bs, and I hope what he said is all true because FIFTY levels?! Thats craazzyyy! In a good way

Because it's understandable to trust an internet commenter saying a reviewer failed their job and calls them a liar. Super reasonable.

PC Gamer also gave Farcry2 and Dragon Age2 two of the best reviews ive ever seen them give.

Also they gave Max Payne3 5/10, PC Gamer is not the final say in how the game is.

All the other scores ive seen ahve been 8/10 to 9/10.

Try the gaem yourself and make a decision on how it is.
Ive seen the first 4 levels and it looks pretty dang good.

Alright I've seen quite a bit of gameplay and I have this to say. Each level is broken into multiple sublevels, and the objectives vary. Sometimes it will require you to escape without being detected, go to a location without being detected, or to assassinateone or more targets. This does mean that it is different than the older Hitman games, but I disagree with the notation that it went casual. The game looks challenging, in a good way. Older games in the franchise have had trouble finding a difficulty balance. Hitman 2: Silent Assassin I felt was way too hard, since the guards seemed physic, and Blood Money was too easy, since the guards never saw through you unless you did something obvious (picking a lock, trespassing, etc.) In Absolution, the A.I. is very intelligent, but it feels real and challenging instead of it being cheap. If you wear a disguise of a cop, for example, the cops will be suspicious of you if you get too close, but other groups who aren't familiar with cops won't be suspicious at all. Some might be worried that the old Hitman setup of assassinating a target in an open location is gone, but it's still is there in contracts mode, and parts of the story. Even levels in which you did not kill someone in the story work great for contracts mode.

Probably won't get this right at launch, but looks like one of the best of the year, along w/ AC3 and Dishonored.

To me he's still the definitive assassin. In terms of reviews, AA. Either way, it's a day one buy for me.

As a long time Hitman fan I honestly think it looks good. I really dont see that much big of a difference from this and previous hitmans besides a cover system and some features you can turn off.

Hyped AA (8-8.5)

Well that's because you ain't seen nothing yet.

Seems like roughly half of it is actual Hitman missions, the rest being more reminiscent of every other stealth game you've seen.

I've seen a couple of videos.

This one looks as a big of a level as in previous hitman games. The chinatown video does aswell. Dont know if they're an exception but previous hitman games also had a couple of more linear levels.

This and Farcry 3 are the last games of this year I'm anticipating. The PC Gamer review is the only one of the early leaked reviews that is below 8. So I won't reach conclusions about what they said right now.

The Lion King avatar guy is damn good at making we want to pick it up. I'll probably end up getting it regardless, I just hope it doesn't disappoint me personally. Any news on length? Other than the GameInformer review.
