In posting this topic, I was hoping that people would disagree and convince me that I'm missing something and that the demo was actually good.

But most people are agreeing with my view.

This is really crappy.

I think I will just wait a month extra and get Alan Wake.

[QUOTE="Gamingcucumber"]Wait a minute. Is everyone in this thread along in on the joke? I very rarely follow games but one of the few that I do keep my eyes on besides Alan Wake and Starcraft 2 was Splinter Cell. I thought they were going to nail the cinematic feel in this one and have as smooth gameplay as ever. I really hope this doesn't turn out to be another Alien vs Predator where everything leading up to the demo got you hyped only to crush the hope when it is finally released. So can I still keep my hopes up?

Try the demo out man, that's all I can say. It was literally one of a handful of reasons I bought a 360, the others being Mass Effect 2, and Alan Wake, and I found it pretty meh. I'm not going to tell you to abandon hope, but I wouldn't get my hopes up too high.

This was my most anticipated game of the year and after playing the demo, I am now not even going to buy it.

I realize that it's just the demo but it revealled enough about the game that I feel I can decide that the game will suck:

-You can't control your pace with the analog stick other than either moving fast or moving slow - completly ruins the game!

-It's all about going from cover to cover - no real opportunity to move where you want in any smooth manner.

-They got rid of the ability to press a button to focus in our your aim and now there is just a dump zoom botton option.

-Graphics are even worse than past Spinter Cell games like Double Agent!

Anyone else hugely dissapointed like me?

I agree, sadly.

I liked it. It was definitely different but I don't care. As long as it's good. I went through it multiple times. Killing everyone the first. Trying to avoid everyone the second (that was hard).

Meh, I was expecting more. The stealth is alright but the gameplay in general is funky. Not a good thing at all. :|

i havent played the demo yet, but im starting to wonder if people paid any attention to all the vidocs out there. its been obvious for a long time the game is different from past SCs and is more action oriented. hell they say it in every vidoc. it seems like if you went in expecting old school SC youre setting yourself up for dissapointment.

Everything above is a lie

It's not even like you're describing it poorly, you just flat out lied about every single thing about the game

You can control the pace of your walk to a run depending how far you push the thumbstick

You can crouch behind any part of cover while you keep on moving through the game, you just have the option to lean against any of it so you can be still while you look around or attack

You can most certainly focus your aim and the mechanic you're talking about needs to be activated by making a stealth kill before you can use it.

The graphics are stellar with them finally having the perfect dark tones for the games with zero pixelation

if everything about what he said is a lie then why are most of the ppl in this thread agreeing with him?

It was a demo using a TUTORIAL level. That's why the game blatantly told you what to do and how to play. How did you guys not see that? To the OP most of what you said is not true, play the demo some more. And to the guy who said he couldn't figure out how to get out of cover, are you serious? I played the demo over and over again for two hours straight. Trying different ways to sneak around, and kill guys. The only beef I had considering IT WAS A TUTORIAL, is that the AI repeats itself too much when saying fisher is here and crap like that.

I was never hyped for this game but I was thinking about getting it. I'll download the demon after reading this thread since I recently made a mistake to buy a game when I didn't like the demo and then I had to trade it in as I don't like to have games I don't enjoy on my collection.

After playing the demo I must say the game is looking to be pretty goddamn good. I don't see what there is to complain about, half the crap the TC said was flat out lies.

Graphically it looks good, controls are tight and flow well, voice acting could be better, but it's still not bad enough to complain about, the game flows well and is fluid. I may actually buy this game now.

Why can't they just take what works and improve it? Is that formula too complex for Ubisoft? Is it easier to just turn every tactical game into a shoot'em'up/kill'em'all fest?

I thought the demo was great. It shows you how to get into cover and do a close up kill, then you get a mark and exicute, then you are on your own to do whatever u want.

Unless you want to take down targets non-lethally, interrogate people you grab for intel, grab and hide bodies, or create distractions by whistling, yeah... you can do anything you want. I'm glad you like it, but it's not a proper stealth game anymore. Oh well, we'll always have MGS4.

[QUOTE="ironcreed"]

To me, it felt like a hand held guided tour of Jason Bourne's greatest hits where the enemies are constantly shooting at where you were instead of where you are. Not to mention the objective projection that goes so far as to even tell you where to climb a pipe. Splinter Cell, this is not. They basically took Sam and made him into a bad copy of Jason Bourne. Hell, even the voice acting was horrible. If this was not such a serious game, I could live with that, but this is supposed to be Splinter Cell. Come on!

Hahadouken
Yeah I found the objective displays thing a little too insulting to my intelligence... if they were revealed in an artistic way, like some clever movie credits or something, I could live with it. I joked in a thread when screens were posted that there would be instructions like "CLIMB THIS PIPE"... I was obviously joking, yet I played the demo a couple days later, and no ****, it said CLIMB PIPE. Meh. Still not going to totally judge it, but the demo was rather underwhelming to say the least. I got hung up on the first piece of cover for an uncomfortably long time, it didn't explain how to get out of cover. I mashed all kinds of buttons and only one very specific action removed me from cover. It was frustrating that it didn't just realize I was stuck and flash the tutorial prompt again. Things like that turn me off of a game, but not enough to discount it. Still going to wait and see. This could be a big flop though, as I'm guessing AAA is the official hype. I would have said safe AAA just after looking at the E3 footage. Man am I naive.

lol you let go of the left trigger to get out of cover, its the first thing your told..

Yeah Co-op will hopefully retain enough of the original stealth elements to make it a worthwhile purchase. And hey, I like action games as well as the next guy... I just like stealth games like the other Splinter Cells better.

Really if this one flops it shouldn't be a surprised after the last couple SC games, but the E3 vids they showed off made me (and apparently a lot of others) expect something pretty awesome. The demo is only a demo, but it's not like the game is that far away. Nothing drastic will be changed, and it's basic stuff like the controls that leave a bad taste in my mouth, not the story or anything.

Yeah it's not even the action I had a problem with, though I liked the first 2 SCs the best, by far. The action would be fine if it felt fluid and crisp like other third-person action/shooter games. The controls just felt awkward, maybe once I get used to them I will like the game more.

On another note, why doesn't Ubi just invent new casual franchises instead of trying to casualize existing ones? Is it a need to try and milk what they can out of an existing fanbase while hopefully attracting new ones? It's always a slippery slope since you alienate the original fans and the casuals are fickle and move on to the next big thing. They should keep Splinter Cell extremely complex and dense, and invent a new franchise to capitalize on the Gears style couch co-op or something.

I'm really tired of people saying that my post had lies in it. Fine, I will rephrase. For the speed, instead of saying there are only two speeds of movement, I'll say that no matter how much I tried, no matter what, I could only get Sam Fisher to move at two stupid speeds and a lot of people agree with me on this. For the graphics, instead of saying Double Agent is better, I'll say that in my opinion it was better and point out that tons of people agree with me. Etc. Etc. Either way, I think the demo sucks and that the game will suck and most people think the same.

It seems like an attempt at explaining the different elements of the game. If the levels open up later on then it could be good.

Is everyone here serious? I love this demo, been playing it over and over...I think it may be because it was only a 5-10 min demo, can you really decide if you like a game in that amount of time? I personally love feeling of being like the assasin Sam should be, it's not AS stealthy but i've found that being in shadows the whole time is ALOT of fun, everyone must be playing it like a shooter, or they're hurt because it's not the Splinter Cell they loved, it's a new and very cool direction for stealth games.

Go back and play the demo, stop posting LIES. It CLEARLY shows what each button does at the start of the demo, I'll take a picture if you don't believe me.

EDIT: I've never seen more fail in my life then in this thread, flat out lies left and right. Just because you aren't intelligent enough to figure out the controls, don't blame the game developer for something that is wrong with you, YOU are the one who isn't smart enough to figure out how to use their control scheme. WHICH works very well with this game. Maybe it's not as great as the older Splinter Cells, but it's still an amazing game. Realize they refreshed the series, compare it to RE4 if you want. It's a good change IMO, change for the better. Also remember...It's a goddamn tutorial demo. Not even an actual level....So take the demo with a grain of salt.

this guy clearly works for microsoft ... lol you going to this game's defense as if ur gettin a cut of their sales...

i think the majority of people think the game failed them as much as you think this thread failed you sir...

What? that doesn't even make sense... they're going to get a disappointing game that's still A+?... From the feedback in this thread it seems that popular opinion thinks its going to be an epic fail -_-

So yeah, i do feel bad...haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa

The demo was awesome. Played it through so many times, came up with many different ways to get through it.

I remember the rewarding feeling I got when I planted a sticky cam near an enemy, marked three enemies, deployed a portable emp, detonated the stick cam, dropped down from the ceiling onto an unmarked enemy and killed him, and executed the three marked enemies. 5 enemies dead in 5 seconds.

Why were people expecting something similar to the old splinter cells when it was obvious that it had become more action orientated when they showed it LAST E3

The damage control in this thread is ferocious. I'm guessing those guys pre-ordered and paid in full.

The game is disappointing, but that doesn't make it a bad game. I think it will score A, possibly AA whereas im guessing everyone expected it to be AAA. So either way, the 360 is getting a good game so theres really nothing to feel bad about
