This is not about if consoles will reach their limits or not (it's obvious they will), the question is when. And that's not something we know at this point.

no, it's quite obvious the consoles have reached their limit now. looking at killzone 3 guerilla games had to use quite a few compromises and tricks to make it look better than killzone 2, uncharted 3 will also be using MLAA instead of 2x MSAA for increased performance, among other things.
with the 360 it just hasn't had games up to the ps3's best yet, and gears of war 3 (possibly RAGE as well) will be the one to do so technically. if the generation lasts longet than that, then from then on it will be all about tricks and compromises for increased graphical fidelity.
I'm signing off now, have lots of school work to do.
EDIT: btw the game to max out the ps3 was uncharted 2. after that point you won't see any significant technical increases in graphics quality.
[QUOTE="johny300"]People are excited for gears 3 just because of it's graphics lol.clone01Why do you say that? Its shaping up to be a great looking title, but the coop and gameplay is attractive to a lot of people, I imagine. At least it is for me. I'm talking about the fanboys.

Nothing you have said indicates anything about consoles reaching their limits.Killzone 3 looked better then Killzone 2, which shows that games are still improving graphically.
Whatever compromises KZ3 had to make, it still looked better than KZ2, and those compromised didn't affect the game in any noticeable way.
If games continue improving graphically, it's clear that consoles haven't reached their limits yet.
do a bit more to make the game worth buying in a season of Uncharted, Battlefield, and Mass Effect
Do you guys feel a bit "unimpressed" by Gears 3 so far or are you still excited as hell?
So what in your opinion makes Uncharted 3 stand out as "Different" from Uncharted 2 if Gears 3 is more of the same? everything I have seen on UC3 looks like more of UC2... so should I hate on UC3?I am not sure yet, but I will get it either way.
I loved Gears 1 with every inch of my being and was so disappointed in Gears 2 multiplayer that I almost cried. I will give Epic a chance to redeem themselves though.
it seems like epic is trying harder to make the game really good, while on gears 2, they focused more on hyping it. with all the time they are taking with this one, and all the improvements theyve mentioned, we are looking at a true shooter of the year canidate IMO.
Nope.
Gears 2 was crap.
Gears 1 was fun, but hasn't aged all that well.
That and the game releases around the same time as Rage and Deus Ex Human Revolution. Somebody ask me why I should care for Gears 3 when two far more substantial looking releases are primed for the late August/mid September time period?
Well... Deus Ex one rocked and the 2nd was horrible.Nope.

Yes and it will sell millions on day 1. Quote me.

I doubt it. It's no Halo/CoD.
So what? It still is the best if not only good thing xbox owners can buy until later in the year. September 20 is pretty early. Not to mention that the other gears of war games sold well. Im excolited for the game because I actually enjoy the campaigns, beast mode looks awesome, and I generally like gears mp. I hated the 2nd one until like TU5, but now I love it. I am hoping that the beta will mean that if epic introduces.any stupid.game-breaking ideas, (like in gears 2 smokes) we can get them out for the full game's release.[QUOTE="jimmypsn"]

Believe it or not, Xbox owners actually buy multiplats.

Gears 2 was quite horrible, and was dead within months of release. I think it may top 750,000 in its first month in NPD's reports, if it's a critical success. But that's about it. Gears had a shot at being 360's true killer-app franchise, but Epic blew it with the second instalment.

I personally thought Gears 2 was an improvement over Gears 1 in everyway. More variety, more enemy types, better set pieces.

Dude, what are you talking about? Gears 2 is, almost 3 years after its release, still one of the most played games on Xbox Live.
Black Ops has outsold the entire Gears franchise.
SHR3DD3D
That's nice. I just don't know why you feel the need to bring CoD in every debate. I don't recall saying Gears outsold CoD. Anyway, 93 > 88 :P

They scored the same--9.0. :)

Same on Gamespot. Not on Metacritic/GameRankings.
Well, nonetheless, Gears 2 shipped with an incredibly broken multiplayer mode, due to Epic's incompetence, while Black Ops provided us with a traditional blast, right from the beginning.

"The truly stunning single-player campaign offsets many of the multiplayer's flaws, and the Zombie mode is tons of hilarious fun, but neither manages to be lengthy or deep enough to make Black Ops the truly great game that I know it should be. This is an incredibly well-made game that, once patched, will easily sit among the hottest titles of the year. As it exists right now, however, I can't recommend the game for purchase."
"Call of Duty: Black Ops does many things right on the PC such as dedicated servers and high resolutions, but it's just really buggy."
"The visual dazzle and cinematic set-pieces are let down by bad scripting, glitchy multiplayer and increasingly dull firefights."
"Skip the tedious single-player campaign, jump into the great, fast-paced multiplayer fray--and hope it works on your PC."
Yup, Black Ops was perfect at launch.

I can agree it's disastrous on the PC, but nonetheless flawless on the PS3 and 360. :)
