When the rest of the world operates under different download regulations than the US?

You want to know what it's like in Canada (and this is Ontario mind you) Here's your future US.

http://www.bell.ca/Bell_Internet/Internet_access

The cheapest one is

Bell Fibe Internet 5/1

5Mbps Download
1Mbps Upload
15GB Usage

Ongoing price $39.95 /mo.

and Rogers

http://www.rogers.com/web/link/hispeedBrowseFlowDefaultPlans

$ 38.49
Up to
6 Mbps
download speed

Up to
256 Kbps
upload speed

20 GB
monthly usage allowance

5 Emails

2$ per GB overage charge.

Take a game like Halo 4 what's it 16gigs for both discs? Assuming you are close to your alounce without downloading games that's an extra 32$ just to download it on top of the initial price. And that's not including patch's DLC or anything else. Even if they lowered DD prices by 10$ (which they won't) You're still paying 82$ for a game that should only cost you 60$.

Digital Downloads taking over "yeah" not in Canada it ain't, I can only assume that the UK, EU, and Australia arn't much better probably worse.

UK, EU, and Australia have the crappiest internet service. That is all I heard about from my Aussie, Brit, Ireland, and Scotish friends on xbox live. Holy geez. I dont mind virtual console download for non-disc games but I prefer to have the disc and art if I pay for a title. Old system digital downloads no sweat. New stuff, I want the disc.

yeee... it will probably take at least another gen or 2 before DD has a hold on most console owners.

The UK has a couple of services with unlimited usage, such as Sky broadband. Speeds are crappy though, the infrastructure really needs upgraded.

I'm pretty sure the U.S. is actually worse than Europe in terms of speed, and I know Asian countries (especially South Korea), are way faster.

DD and streaming. I get 75MB for 39.99 US and no caps (used to be 50MB for 29.99). I don't think anyone in the US has caps.

ATT does. 150 GB cap normal, 250 GB for Universe TV subscribers.

That's sort of the point 40$ CAD (and our $ is worth more last time I checked) for 15gig and 20 gigs + 2$ a gig afterwords and it's only getting worse and apparently we're 2ed best when compared to UK, EU, and Australia. Point being it's easy to say DD is the future when you're the only country in the world with a have decent deal, but don't expect your free ride to last forever, companies are looking how it is up here and want a piece, they're already shorting it so expect them to want a dime for every byte in the future.

Well they are so getting worse, a few years ago it wasn't as bad, I don't know if the US caps are getting cheaper but in the rest of the world they're getting more expensive.

Are you sure about that because I just did a search and they're not looking much better than Canadian services, you could be lucky and be the exception not the rule.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but is this limited to remote reigns because all the other providers I looked at in the UK seem to be awful. I'm assuming there must be a catch.

Digital downloads can still be the future. If one country can lead the way, it can occur. There's the U.S. and South Korea. Two countries with good internet service. After a while, the other countries can catch up.

It has nothing to do with not being prepared for the future and everything to do with corporate greed. Anything you can buy I can buy (with the exception of fire arms) I got the feeling we're just the test monkeys to see what people will put up with.

I've been hearing this complaint for years, but it hasn't stopped digital downloads from completely taking over the PC market. The countries that spend the most money on digital entertainment will be the ones least affected by this problem, so the fact that some people miss out may not be a huge deal.

Well, it is the future, but not the immediate future. Data caps, slow speeds, and complete lack of access just make near future demand for DD impractical. However, we may see it becoming a universal option soon, maybe even this coming gen (ie all store shelf releases are available digitally). More the issue, I think, is Sony, MS and Nintendo's relation with the stores. They still need those stores, and the stores don't make their money on the consoles, they make it on the game sales, so there is probably a lot of corporate pressure on the console makers to keep physical media the standard for the bulk of the games.

Europe have recently invested millions on improving the infrastructure, including the UK, so the broadband around here is getting better.

Before I was stuck at up to 8Mb with monthly usage limits in my town, and now it's 24Mb with unlimited usage.
