This game just popped out of nowhere and exploded on system wars. I know it's an import but what exactly makes this game so great? I might buy it.

It did'nt pop out of nowhere.
There has been threads popping up with regular intervals ever since it was released in Japan (since it got good reviews) and it use to be hyped (and laghed at) as a PS3 exclusive.
A lot us imported it since the asian asian (and chinese?) version include english voices and text.
Its just really really fun and addicting.
I've sunk 41 hrs into it so far. Really amazing game
Might even be my GOTY!!
i think its onlypopular on here and a few other sites
if i didnt come on here or check reviews i wouldnt even know about it
Its challenging in a fair way not a cheap way. Im on NG+,but I need a break from all the anger and screaming. So im happy uncharted 2 is coming.
[QUOTE="heysharpshooter"]Yeah but even then it's sold out in a number of local Gamestops so someone is buying it You know they might have bought only a couple of copies. They usually buy depending on pre-orders, and get a surplus of that number. x:Its only popular here on SW and other forums. the average gamer probably hasn't even heard of it.

I learned the hard way trying to find PoPoLoCrois when it first came out.Its only popular here on SW and other forums. the average gamer probably hasn't even heard of it.

Both regular and deluxe in stock now.I can only assume its because this game has been rehash after rehash so far. With the rising expense of videogame development they play it way too safe this generation. Last gen a game like this would hardly be noticed because there was plenty of diversity to go around
two reasons:
ps3 exclusive
Atlus
As you probably already know ps3 exclusives get hyped a ton in forums due to the viral sony marketing train, and a well recieved ps3 exclusive tends to get extra bumps. Also it's published by Atlus which is well respected in most gaming circles.
Its an action-japanese RPG that plays and looks like a Western RPG, medieval style and atmosphere, and some very accurate combat with excellent hit detection, lots of depth. Giant bosses, fairly brutal difficulty at times. Thats about it in 2 sentances or less. :PWhat is this game? I've never heard of it.

22 hours in so far. It's my new GOTY so far. It's damn hard, but it's only your fault if you die. The first level is extremely frustrating, after 1 or 2 hours, you understand that you need to pay attention to everything because every enemies can possibly kill you in 1 or 2 strikes.
On the other side, it's so rewarding when you get througha boss (flamelurker anyone?), or through a level (4-2 anyone?) that you just can't stop playing.
Exactly. I had some interest in the game, but my interest skyrocketed when I saw a 90% metacritic. That and the medieval theme, along with the dearth of worthwhile RPGs this gen, totally sold me. I bought the game and almost decided to trade it in, out of frustration, after the first two hours, but once something finally clicked I became totally engrossed and addicted. This game is truly not to be missed, and I feel genuinely sorry for the folks who gave it up like I almost did. It is so worth the effort.Good reviews. :)
Blixxed
Its a PS3 exclusive. So like any PS3 exclusive, cows hyped it to the masses, then the game started to get good reviews...cows hyped it more. Then it was released and they finally got a chance to play it and see that their hype was justified. All this leads to hundreds of threads about it on SW.
Hey TC, what do you mean it's an import? It's available in the US. Also, it's been getting strong hype for a while and those reviews are very high. The thing is, we all knew it'd be popular in the forums, but don't expect it to be a mainstream hit. From Software nor Atlus have never really managed to make a mainstream hit and a game as difficult as Demon's Souls, badass as it looks, won't take off with the general public. But expect many PS3 owners on forums to enjoy it a lot.

this pretty muchHmm I don't think I agree with this one. It's definitely as niche as everyone says it is. The first hour would scare off 90% of my gamer buddies, even some of the more "hardcore" ones that liked Ico games and Okami and such. It's an action RPG (if it's action people will like it here) that isn't as niche as people say it is.

Add in an AAA score, and there you go.
Many other AAA don't get as much hype and this was getting crazy hype before the score so I don't think so. Not saying the game isn't good btw.Simply amazing and ADDICTING. I was hesistant and never picked it up on release day (i even reserved it) but finally gave in because I wanted something new...and omg. Put it this way, Uncharted 2 is still sitting sealed next to me.
Yea..its damn good. Almost worth purchasing a PS3 for. Its so unique and addicting.
Strong word of mouth and localization.
It truly was dismissed as abysmal, but then when players started talking about it and when the reviews started pouring in, the news spread pretty nicely.
It's unique difficulty in sync with an apparant great gameplay mechanic(s) is what seems to interest people most.
But it's definetely the reviews-- there really is nothing else this game was riding on.
Good to see it deliver.
