This isn't a flamebait or anything just to let you all know. I'm just curious to know some of your opinions on this because from where I stand, the only thing it did differently from Medal of Honor and Perfect Dark was vehicle combat. Otherwise I can't think of another gameplay element that was an innovation for console FPS.

Now if you can think of one for me that would be great because I hate to be ignorant on something like this. :p

Ok I can see that but I'm talking more from a gameplay perspective. When I hear "innovation" when talking about a game, I automatically think about what it did differently that affected how the game was played and moved the genre foreward.

Halo: Combat Evolved looked at the PC FPSs and said:

"I am equal"

And then PC FPSs moved on and the Halo series didn't.

Ok theres one. Halo 2 really kick started the movement towards rechargeable health, I remember before you had to look for health packs and Halo got rid of that. And, in my opinion it was for the better.

ninja gaiden has one and now gears of war does...its only the beginning

I think that one of the things Halo had was a larger scale when you compare it to the other console FPS games at the time. I don't know if that is really innovative though.

Console FPS still suckPainballz

As a former hardcore FPS PC player and owner of a 360 only two months old, FPS on consoles are just as comperable if not more then the mouse and keyboard.

On topic...

-Rechargable Health

-One trigger gernade throwing

-Perfect console movement speed

-Perfect intigration of vehicles

-Carring only two guns at once.

Everything else is excecution wise like Storytelling, AI, art style, and multiplayer.

Whoa now.... three of those are subjective, and the other two aren't a good thing.

Rechargeable forcefields aren't your health, and you still have a health system in the first Halo. Vehicle combat? You mean where armoured vehicles redirect damage to the passengers and driver? Co-op was fun, but I had fonder memories in Timesplitters 1.

Halo = Meh in innovation.

Guns combined with Grenade launchers where on Perfect Dark if i remember right which still to this day has the best guns around on any FPS. Timesplitters was out before Halo if i remember right and had perfect dual-analog controls.

No halo was not innovative in any aspect of the word. Innovation on FPS scene died with Perfect Dark and Golden Eye on the N64 era. Hell the last true innovative FPS if you can count it as one is Metroid Prime series on the GameCube and Wii.

I agree with this guy. Reading a spreadsheet printout of new features will never really explain why this game had the impact it did. You had to have been an active gamer Pre-Halo and have "lived" during that time to really see it. Now alot of the stuff is common and everyday, but back then it wasn't.

Here is one...multiplayer. Nothing like it on consoles before(especially the co-op mode). Let me put it this way, Halo was innovative in a way of that it made a new standard for console fps. That standard was, put out a great all around experience with great multiplayer. In any case, I'm going to assume you are one of those people who hated Halo's popularity more than the actual game itself so you like to discredit it every chance you get.

The game made certain features more popular and appealing to a wider audience than games that introduced many of Halo's gameplay elemnts before. With such a popular fanbase, Halo helped spread many of it's gameplay elements to future console FPS games.

Was Halo great when it released? Yes. It even looked great compared to most, if not all, pc fps games at the time. My problem with the series is that it never changed. It kept the same dry (dry in today's standards) gameplay from the previous games. Of course that's in my opinion...and in many other oppinions... An example is many of friends, just a couple months after Halo 3's launch(which many of them waited in line for) they all just kind of...stopped playing. They moved onto other games and said it just got boring. Look back at Halo 2 and they played the heck out of that game for years up until Halo 3's release.

Halo: CE was great. The next 2 in the series...were ok. (Oppinion)

What other fps pc game had more of a complete package than Halo? If it came out for the pc only, everyone here would be raving how innovative it was.

How? no team based FPS uses it, except for medics at a very slow rate, its a terrible feature.
