No they are not.

Yes they are. :| I can get a 4GB SD Card for $8, an 8GB SD card for $15, a 16 GB SD card for $30 and a 32GB SD Card for $60. Sony's prices are 2x that.

No they are not.

Yes they are. You can get a 32GB SD card for less than $40, compared to the 32GB Vita Memory Card that costs $100.

That's $60 of pure profit for Sony.

It's such a ripoff when you think about it.

To all the fanboys who will post on this my thread i just want to let u know my 3ds is collecting dust.

Promised_Trini

That sucks. I'm playing Mario, Ace Combat, and the Resident Evil Revelations demo on my 3DS. Maybe you just don't like games I guess.

How is that game? I am buying 3Ds after my Vita that's one of the games I wanna pick up.

Pretty good actually. I was real surprised by how well the 3D is used in the game. The planes and explosions are pretty good in 3D. It's a nice addition when you pick up your 3DS.

Finished the revelations demo mario 3d land is terrible and to easy and the fact that there is litterally no 3d in that game.Finished masterquest on zelda and the controls in mario kart 7 are terrible.

Flick the 3D on, there's your 3D. You probrably prefer analog than circle pad

Why would cows get the 3G version. I thought they hated paying Monthly fees to play online...

The funniest thing is, the 3G version doesn't even let you play online  Only very few games that have the tolerance for the latency will allow online games which to be honest is almost none.

I don't want to pay $50 for 8 hour long games.

Once the library is comprised of better games then I consider game price to also be a factor of it being overpriced.

The system itself I'd pay $250 for if not the fact that the accessories/games just aren't worth that investment.

I would say this is a bigger problem for the Vita than the memory cards.

The only games that I'd see myself playing for more than 8 hours are just ports of existing games on other consoles.

Only one game is $50 and it will probably be one of the last. There are longer and cheaper option than Golden Abyss on the Vita like Wipeout.

It's overpriced because people want it but either can't afford it or won't pony up the dough. It's a reasoning to help justify their decision in not getting one so they can ease the temptation. For what the Vita can do, it's under priced. I still think 250 for the 3DS was a steal, but obviously, people seem to think that a handheld device should never ever come close to the price of the console.

t is hardly overpriced. Once it was announced last year people were seeing it being listed at "300-350". Then once the price was revealed it was amazing, the system sold itself then! But now with the 3DS cut somehow it's too pricey.

The system itself isn't overpriced. The Memory cards are though. The 3DS launch at the same price and is inferior.

You bloody Americans should be the last complain, you get it for a mere $250. People were expecting it to be priced at $350 yet you people still whine. If anyone should complain it should be us in the UK since we have to pay £220 / $350. Even then, it's still reasonable considering all the amazing tech inside it. Bloody cheapskate Americans..

The system isn't overpriced but its tough for it to compete sales-wise with the cheaper 3DS. The cards are overpriced however.

sony need to create a cloud storage system for Vita, then the memory card problem is solved, then people only have to buy one if they want to buy games digitally or if they want to put music and movies on it.

Expensive does not equate to overpriced. It's probably reasonable considering how much it costs Sony to make the device, but it's still ridiculously expensive during an economic downturn especially. Few can justify shelling out that kind of money for a handheld gaming device.

As consumer, you have two options -

Go to the DD route (cheaper savings in the long run) - which you would probably need a 32 GB memstick or buy your games retail - which you would need a 8 GB memstick

For DD route, you can buy a PSVita + 32 GB = $350

For Retail route, you can buy a PS Vita + 8 GB = $280

DD route seems the way to go considering you can save $$$ in the long run.

Yes it is. Here are the UK prices:

WiFi Model - £220 / $350
WiFi and 3G Model - £270 / $427

Not sure about Japan. So I'd say the folks in the states are getting a sweet deal as usual. They also whine, complain and are ungrateful, as usual.

It's not as easy as a straight FX exchange. You have to take into account that minimum wage, cost of living, etc. are different as well.

€250 and €300 over here...that's $329 and $394. Yes, it's f*#&ing overpriced. And I **** you not that's the price of the handheld itself.
If I wanted a game + the cheapest memory card, that would add €25 + €50. I would have to pay €325, a unbelievably huge sum of $427 just to play a 8 hour long game.

Do NOT %$@^$ing want...

I think its the most expensive in Australia, at first i was thinking it was Japan but i just looked and apparantly the wifi only model is 24,980 yen, which is only$303AU which makes that still almost $50 cheaper in japan then it is in Aus.

Price jump? It has always been like this, your prices in $ is our price in €. A game that costs $40 in the states, usually costs €40 over here and mostly even €50. New releases are €60 ($78) over here, up to €70 ($92) on PSN/XBL.

It has been like this to screw Europeans over and over, and since we don't buy as much as software as in Japan or U.S....they also drop support on DD like PSN and XBL, saying there is no market for it. Offcourse there is no market for it if these extortion rates keep up.

You have to account for that fact that people earn different amounts in different countries, i live in Aus and our minimum wage for an adult even doing a basic job in a super market is $20 an hour.

There definitely is a price jump. A reasonable inflated price would be between £180 - £190. For instance with the PS3, we pay around $40 - $50 extra. With the Vita, we are being charged a lot more. I presume Sony assume it will do well regardless since Europe loves PlayStation, where as they need to reclaim some ground in the US. It could easily backfire though.

Jeez, it is $350 in the UK? It is going to bomb in the UK. How expensive is it in Japan? Is it the same price over there?

349 AUD = 350 USD 249 EURO = 330 USD 24980 JPY = 326 USD 229 GBP = 362 USD 449 NZD = 375 USD (wi-fi versions)

where did you get the New Zealand price from? i was just trying to find it a minute ago.

A hand held GAME system should NEVER cost $250 or more. Ever. I refused to buy a 3DS until the price drop.

Uh, why in the hell has no one mentioned this price jump in other regions? People are all wondering why the thing is bombing in Japan. Well duh, look at the price! I thought it was $250 in all regions....

arkephonic

Wow, that's crazy. Lol @ Americans complaining about video game prices. We have it good.

Generally buying things from America is cheaper because your currency is worth less then ours and we have higher wages. Importing games is a good way to get them cheap seeing as your new games are $60 and ours are usually between $80-100

Exactly, that would be one of the reasons to move to the states or do some import vacations :P

Importing would have been fine if Europe didn't enforce these rules of having a max. sum $29 worth of goods before you start paying a extortion-fee in import-taxes. Which in most cases amounts to paying 40% tax over your goods or it's confisquated forever.

that sucks, we don't have any sort of tax like that here in Australia. It's never been a problem when purchasing items off of ebay.

What makes it expensive is them making the memory cards all but mandatory and then jacking the memory card prices sky high.AmazonTreeBoa
Nailed it. $250 is out of my price range for launch systems after the 3DS.
