Doesn't seem like a move out of desperation. MS doesn't need to cut its jobs as a means of making ends meet. Like they said in the video it's to eliminate overlap created when they acquired 30,000 Nokia employees.

no a company with an 80% chance of going bankrupt means a company is "most likely doomed". M$ is a greedy company and people will loose jobs before M$ looses money. The only reason lems say that about Sony is because they have no money and are laying people off and selling buildings and assets. Difference is Sony continues to give regardless of financial situation which gets them the loyalty of their customers, M$ has money to burn but you have to spend money to get anything from M$, example Xbox rewards has a deal going on now where if you spend $60 every 2 weeks for 10 weeks they will give you $5 for every 60 you spend, WTF. If M$ were ever in financial trouble they would have no support from the fans because of their tactics and they know that. Basically M$ wants to beat Apple/be Apple, but Apple's to far gone now plus their marketing is way better than M$.

Sadly it happens all the time. A company buys another company, but doesn't need it's work force. So it lays them off. It sucks.

MS did have a supply shortage for the 360 in the first year.

It's selling better than the PS2. Don't soil the PS4 by comparing it to the 360.

Um if you read more into this it has to do with the Nokia acquisition and the doubling of positions as they integrate people in from Nokia. This is not news worthy other than this happens all the time when one company acquirers another. Its unfortunate, but it has nothing to do with MS's performance or where they stand as a company.

I think SW has issues, but this one is just the tip of the iceberg. Rumors are SW livelihood though, as long as I've been here since PS2/Xbox/GC generation. As far as all the other stuff, that's something I will defer to the TC. It's not my thread to defend as I actually don't care about the business side of any of these companies.

I just wanted to point out Xbox was in the link and it certainly is as I proved with the links. Also, when companies do spring cleaning and hire Efficiency experts, they tend to try and do these layoffs all at once, for efficiency's sake. Whatevs, I am not worried at all, I got my Xbone on the ready.

These job cuts are a result of a restructure due to an acquisition.

Sony has to sell buildings to pay the electricity bill. Big difference.
