I blame microsoft for Capcom, along with other game companies ripping ppl off.

You don't see the value in paying $50 a year for LIVE, that's fine. I personally don't see the value in buying a PS3 for $400 (Really don't care for Blu-ray).

It's all subjective.

Kickinurass

no because a lot xbl game don't have dedicated servers. so you're paying to play on your own connections. all of that = rip off

You do realize that " a lot" of PSN games don't have dedicated servers either. Im pretty sure it's less than 5% actually...

are you being charge to use psn?

DLC does suck and what Capcom is doing with RE5 is so ridiculous. MS surely has played a large part in it too since devs like Epic wanted their DLC to be free. O well, thats why I have a PC, with the exception of Bethesda's crap, DLC is generally free and not DLC, but simply, an update.

Go play Burnout Paradise or Team Fortress 2 if you want free downloadable content.

Compare the number of online games on the PS2 to the Xbox, Xbox created a slimlined Online Experience for consoles, this gen, XBL is what the other companies online, strive to be.

PSdual_wielder

You're somewhat correct, but striving to do all that stuff while its free. :)

And yes, it was microsoft who started all of this. While DLC can be a good thing, some of the stuff devs have released in the past is just ridiculous.

And look, people come up with the excuse of "developer support", but this is nothing more than an apparently pleasing word for milking their products in redundant ways. True developer support should be free, if they love their games and the community so much, they should release everything to be free.

Do you work for free?

DLC, especially in the case of Capcom's new scandal, should be free. Unless it is a major add on like Shivering Isles or LatD then it should be free.

People are going to pay for it anyway, so there is really no need to get pissed about it. Who know, maybe Capcom will release is as a free download if it doesn't sell to good. I think it's a market test. Wait and see.

Yes and with the 360 i'm being charged for a DVD player that i may not want to use.. And yes I'm sure everyone wants battery powered controllers  That's like saying people are being charged extra for rechargeable cell-phones.

The only DLC I tolerate are the ones that are free or ones that actually add some new content. DLC that could have been released during the game's launch but was withheld so that they can be purchased later is a dirty move.

Capcom is ripping ppl off and milking gamers because of the DLC multiplayer that should have been part of the game to begin with.

I say its microsofts fault, they are the ones that started this charge for the internet stuff, they have totally ruined gaming, boy do i miss the time i could buy a game and get the whole game, and not have to buy the rest of it through DLC , If it wasnt for live and gaming companies seeing how stupid alot of gamers are that they will pay for anything, things that should be free we wouldnt have that problem

Next generation they are gonna charge you an extra 5 dollars just for the instruction manual , why? just because they can, and ppl will pay for it.

Hey microsoft thanks for ruining gaming!

Since you were never given the option for extra content how do you know what you got was the 'whole game'?

I wonder what the big deal is about whining over $5? Why do you have to buy every game or DLC that comes out anyway? The trick is to buy a game that takes 100s of hours to play & play that. That should take a lot of time, so much so, that by the time you are ready for another game, you will have $5 to spend. Sheesh. I suppose if you had to have every game that came out the instant it was made available, then it would be expensive. But who has time for that?? It's time to be realist. I've bought about a dozen 360 games & I've only been able to play 2 of them. The other 10 are still waiting to be opened & played. So take it from somebody who can afford it, you aren't missing out by not owning every game when they're made available. :)

Just don't buy the DLC then, and if enough people follow suit, companies will stop doing it this way. But until everyone that owns a console agrees with you and follows suit, it's going to stay the way it is. Vote with your dollars man... and don't blame Microsoft. If you think Sony and Nintendo are these benevolent institutions that care about gamers more than themselves, you live in la-la land.

Due to the features and multimedia capabalities you are getting, the PS3 is actually quite a great deal. Many people use routers. Wireless is the future. I use the wifi on my ps3 because it's there, on my 360 i refuse to by the $100 wifi addon so i have to connect my modem manually to it which is totally epic fail.

Peripherals and add-ons are always annoying to me.

Actually, this all started on the PC first with all those Everquest and Sims expansions. Then there were downloadable mods for every popular PC game out there. So it didn't start with Xbox, it start with the PC. So blame all the companies who created all that extra DLC. So thanks PC for ruining gaming. lol!!

your one of the ppl who you call idiots, ALL DLC is pointless, extra maps? should have been free, lost and the damned? should have came with the game. there is no DLC, you pay $60 dollars, there should be alot more content on these games then 8 hours of game play, then charging 5 bucks for a few more hours of game play.

there is no good DLC for $60 dollars i should get everything that becomes available as DLC included. Its microsofts fault.

stayhigh1

How is that MS' fault? Because YOU think ALL DLC is pointless? Some people actually LIKE some DLC, one fanboy rant does not mean ALL DLC is pointless, its your opinion and nothing more.

I bought my car and it came with a stock stereo, I put a better sound system in it, so is it my car manufacturers fault because I wanted a better sound system in it?

Microsoft coming out in the market first even though they know that their system is faulty is a big slap to all 360 fanboys..Microsoft is buying DLC from third party games when it can be in the game from the start of development..Screw Microsoft ..I got a friend that i meet last night who bought the PS3 version of resident evil since his 360 got the RROd..lol.

1. Most of your reply had nothing to do with my comment.

2. How can DLC, that hasn't even been thought of yet, be in the retail game?

look at it this way. you paid for XBL and you don't get dedicated server for the top XBL games. I don't pay for psn and i still get dedicated server for popular games like resistance 2. you're paying to play on your own connections while im not being charge for using psn connections.

Stop saying "lol @ you" "LMAO" makes you look silly and quite frankly childish, which wouldnt surprise me.

Anyway back on topic i been paying for a service which i feel is the best you can get on consoles right now. I no issues with the service which all my friends use to play games, socialise which im sorry but untill sony put a damn mic bundled you just dont get that same community feeling from thier online service.

Peripherals and add-ons are always annoying to me.

Wireless isn't the future it's one of many options that has been available for quite a while now. And having a wired connection still beats the pants off of it. So like I said if it's useless to me, it isn't a positive at all.

[QUOTE="dthach614"] i said i didn't want wifi either.dthach614

So why list it as a positive?

"when you buy your ps3, blu ray, wi fi, etc is what you're getting in return." Your words.

If I don't want or need Wifi how is it a benefit?

because your ps3 still have the capability.

Yeah, the capabilty to remain unused. That's worth paying extra for.

[QUOTE="IronBass"][QUOTE="MaximumD"] I know MS didn't start it, but they were the one who expanded to the public by forcing people to pay to play the other half of the game.MaximumD
"Forcing"?

Yes, Forcing. It's half of the game that you can enjoy then the other half, you are forced to pay to play.

no. the DLC expands on a allready finished product.

And no, your not forced. You can be perfectly fine with what the retail disk offers.

Either way, i smell a jealous cow regarding GTA4 or Fallout 3 related discussions.

The funny thing is... You don't HAVE to buy DLC:|

Ahh and there as the bard would say lies the rub. It's all subjective. People want wifi while others don't. I guess you're in the other boat. And wireless is the future.

It has all ready been established that Microsoft was not the first company to introduce DLC since DLC is not a term used EXCLUSIVELY for content that adds to a game but for any content that can be downloaded.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Downloadable_content

The phrase is used to refer specifically to content created for video games that is released separately from the main video game release. The phrase has, however, also been used to refer to any type of digital entertainment media distributed online.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gameline

He then converted his variable speed adaptive modem technology to download games from central servers to individual households. This allowed users to call up a system and for a fee download games to their GameLine modules. The game would work for typically 5-10 plays, after which the user would have to connect to GameLine again and pay for another download.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sega_Channel

For a monthly subscription fee (usually $14.95 depending on location), along with a $25 activation fee, the subscriber would get an adapter, which plugged into the Genesis cartridge slot, and was connected to their cable television connection. The service would provide them with unlimited access to 50 games, selectable through an on-screen menu, with new games appearing every month and later every 2 weeks. The games would be downloaded in about 1 minute and play just like the retail versions. These games were organized by genre, such as Action, Fighting, Adventure, and Family. Each month, there was a special theme with originally composed music, artwork and game categories.

----PC DLC from the DLC page on wikipedia---

The overwhelming majority of such content was available for free, and the phrase "downloadable content" is rarely used to refer to such content, instead being termed "user-created content." Nonetheless, user-created maps and mods are widely recognized as the precursor to the downloadable content ofpopular console video games today.

(Though this is skewed likely written by a PC person and we all know hermits like to think every thing is superior and free when it comes to pc :majority: means most it doesn't mean all therefor there were pay for DLC on PC and since DLC on PC has existed before Xbox we can assume pay for DLC predates xbox pay for DLC)

Take it as you want really the above is fact simple as that *except the small diatribe againest hermits* the only thing that can be debated above is the definition of DLC and even then thats factual since Downloadable content and the definition is content that is downloadable and games full games that are paid for are content DLC doesn't just refer to addon's...ect

P.S: lets not bring up the charge for mmo games on a monthly basis and the charge for addon packs to them.

@dthach614
At no time did iron boss go off topic you did quite a bit though and you tried to change the subject continuely he/she defeated you at every turn with logic.

No, Wireless is not the future, it is / will be used alot, but CAT/ RJ connections will never go away, for security reasons.

yes but for online gaming you must realise wifi is the better option, theres no advantage to wirless as the amount of information being sent or recieved it easily dealth with using wifi, cable will not mean less lag.

Actually, in most cases, Wifi is NOT the better option for online gaming, Wifi can have intermittent signals which can be the death of you in an online game, which basically means, if you get intermittent signals, that can produce lag in your game. (It will seem like lag anyway)
