[QUOTE="Birdy09"] Why wasnt there any context? you played as roach during the "james bond level" you played as a 1 time character in russian airpot, you play as the american soldier defending america and you play as SOAP once roach kicks the bucket, all around the same time in different locations.. how is that hard to comprehend?NoRussian

Do you even understand what context means? Why would a undercover operative take part in a massacre of innocent civilians? It makes no goddamn sense.Context would be:

Undercover dude is under for too long, falls under the influence of Makarov and decides to switch sides or gets really confused. Does a bunch of stuff leading up to the conclusion in the airport. Makarov finds out or already knew and blam.

That's context. Not some stupid cutscene with a couple of seconds of dialog and a general saying "You're gonna lose a piece of yourself son.." Then BOOM! You are in an airport killing people. The game was so damn short that they could have had a better transition to that event. There was no REASON for that to happen the way it did.

It was supposed to be a serious event. This was the thing that started an invasion on the US and it was treated like a minigame.

Maybe you haven't played the game. It clearly says that before you click to start the mission, and you can read about it. :) And I think it is good that it's included. It's not something every developer does and it was a fun level, and if you find it boring or uninteresting, you can just skip it. You won't lose any achievements, so why complain?

I have the game. I would never be so critical about something I do not own.

Why complain? Because it was dumb. I don't give a crap about achievements, but when I gotta plop 60 bucks on a game, I'd like for it to have at least some level of thought put into it beyond, "Don'tcha think it would be cool if..." That was their entire single player story structure: SETPIECES. That's all well and good, and the setpieces were GREAT. I just wished they would have put a little more thought into piecing everything together.Sometimes I like to be pleasantly surprised when there is a decent story framing the gameplay. AND if you are going to ripoff Tom Clancy, at least do it well.

No Russian is probably one of the best plot twists of all time... I put it up there w/ KOTOR. Overall the campaign was really hit or miss on every mission. Some parts I loved, and others I loathed.

What? Seriously? ** *SPOILER ALERT*** Oh wait i know he's an american spy who is ultimately after me, so i'm going to arm him anD turn my back from him while i blow the brains off a couple of hundred people. Heey! After i succeed the terrorist attack, i'm just going to shoot the undercover spy at the site so that the police can identify him with his american passport in his breast pocket. And the Russians are going to be so mad that an american terrorist attacked the airport that they are going to respond with a nuclear attack. MWAHAHAHAH!!!

I thought No Russian was unneccasary and a blind grab from IW for attention towards their game from the media. It would have made a much better cinematic.enterawesome
Yes, the cinematic would have grabbed no attention whatsoever... /facepalm. They did it for the sake of the game, not some outward agenda. People have such a weird and distorted understanding of the behind-the-scenes.

[QUOTE="Birdy09"] I think most of you miss the point of that level.... well if you can consider it a level, most of the games elements are interactive... trying to imerse you as much as possible, wether it was an easy level or not, IT IMMERSED me more than a pathetic cutscene ever would... cutscenes are the bain of interactivity and an outdated feature in gaming. mayaswell watch a movie.NoRussian

When involving the player there should be intelligent narrative, using gameplay systems to drive it. No Russian isn't intelligent, nor is it thoughtfully done.

The only immersion that comes from it putting the player there, its essentially an interactive cut scene. It is unnecessary, if it was particularly well done and not so flawed I would say otherwise. Cheap immersion, but hell, thats what COD since the 4th has always been about.

Taking an action scene and propping it in the first person perspective to create immersion.

The player interaction is so meaningless and limit that its as interactive as a film like REC. or even Cloverfield. Hell as you put it to describe a cutscene, in these instances you 'may as well be watching a movie' too...

But aye, even so there is a kick to be had out of it.

Fail. A cutscene would have been so normal and generic, that it would have become boring. It's a good thing it was playable now, showing how innovative IW is capable of being if they only want to and are ready to take risks. A cutscene would only result in you being less engrossed.

1. It isn't innovative, even in its storytelling.

2. Its a wasted 'risk', if anything its a stunt.

3. The whole scene is boring as far as gameplay and design is concerned, and unnecessary.

4. Its no less engrossing then putting X cutscene into first person, with limited player interaction.

Arguably this is worse as you are so controlled in role playing, and have no meaningful choices to make.

prove me wrong.

All good points. I agree. It would have been more effective as a cut-scene. I played it but couldn't bring myself to pull the trigger.
