After having like 3 months of maxing every game I encounter on my PC, I just cant stand the consoles, I just played GTA IV on my PS3 and I almost throw up, I know this game was never known for its graphic but its just...bad...looks terrible on my 42' tv, heavily alyased, a lot of screen tearing despite the choppy frame rate, horrible characters model...hell I dont think a game needs good graphics to be good, but I dont like it when a game has mediocre graphics.

so, once you enter pc gaming, can you ever leave pc gaming?

That's a multiplat from 2008 that wasn't even that impressive for its time.

EDIT: plus the Ps3 version is sub HD, not the 360 version.

I got my rig 4 months ago, but I have no problem playing my 360 now and then. GTA IV is a bad example though, it's not the best game performance wise :P I was quite disappointed by Crysis vanilla graphics, Witcher 2 though wow amazing looking game. Getting 60fps maxing out multiplats is also nice, I will never get a multiplat on consoles... until next gen maybe.

Sure, I did; I was a PC gamer from 94 to 01, both from 01 to 05, and am now a console gamer. I still game on PC somewhat, mostly for Nvidia Surround, but I'd definitely classify myself as a consolite.

Some games you can, and some you can't.

The more realistic a game tries to look on consoles the worse it looks in comparison to the PC, but there are plenty of console games that you would never call ugly even as a PC gamer, but those tend to have their own unique style to them.

I have a hard time getting back to console gaming because I just find the PC to be better in general. It's not really the graphics that keep me on my PC especially since a lot of the best games on PC aren't the greatest looking games.

He's saying he cares about gameplay, but that horrible visuals can spoil the immersion for him.

To a certain extent, I share that feeling, even though I can get over it. I've enjoyed more than my share of Wii games, after all. But some types of games benefit greatly from good graphics, unquestionably.

The problem is you played GTA4. That game is horrible.

No seriously, stop being picky and play games. Graphics are nice, but they don't make the game.

Yes. Unless graphics mean more to you than gameplay. It's totally fine to me, but I value gameplay far more than I ever will graphics. The reason why I think many retro games beat modern games many times over.

'so, once you enter pc gaming, can you ever leave pc gaming?' I was a PC gamer for the longest time, I still play the odd game every now and then but to me gaming on consoles just feels more natural than booting up a PC. Regardless of the visual differences, at least with a console I know I can always play the game without any problems or worry about upgrading. 'hell I dont think a game needs good graphics to be good, but I dont like it when a game has mediocre graphics.' Aren't you contradicting yourself there?

I think it depends on you PC. But I have noticed that it is harder to go back to less visual quality games. Like trying to play a psone or n64 game again.

As I said before, I prefer PC but still love the exclusive gems on consoles, so nothing keeps me from playing them, BUT I will say that some people here seem to think graphics are all about textures, when in fact (though they are nice), the big benefit of PC graphics for me is the framerate, resolution, and AA. Playing Bad COmpany 2 maxed out is just a different game altogether on PC than it is on consoles :P.

Not really. I have Bioshock 1 & 2 on Steam, and I've played a demo of the first Bioshock on the PS3. That version seemed fine to me, so I'm going to buy both on the PS3 to have physical copies of the game.

I'm with you TC.

PC gaming is so far ahead from consoles in EVERY respect. I neded up selling my PS3 and xbox 360, and eventually my Wii too.

The whole process is so different.

I would get home from work and if I wanted to play on my PS3, I'd have to look for the game disc. Boot up the console, wait for the game to load.. oh wait, Ps3 needs YET ANOTHER update, so I have to wait. And then the game itself, terrible graphics, no AA, no AF, low resolution rendering, and low rez textures AND terrible performance.

Frame rate in most games is under 30 fps. I just can't stand that.

On the PC, I come home from work and I wiggle my mouse and click ont he game I want to play. In 5 seconds I could be playing any of 50+ games on my PC at the moment.

I get PM'ed by a friend while playing one game, and I can be in the lobby ready to do multi with him/her in another 3 seconds on some other game. Updates are automatic and happen in the background.

And of course games look much better, and are running at 60+ FPS.

And then there's mods, which is essentially tons of free content for my games, options in controller types, it's just so much more flexible.

I just can't go back.

I find SNES games to be appealing too.

Older games cover for lacking horsepower with magnificent artstyle.

When you compare current gen console games that are mainly focused on realistic graphics with PC games the gap shows a lot.

You'll probably realize that being unable to go back to consoles because GTA 4 maxed out looked amazing is a silly reason to stick to PC. Sure it looks great but if there's a game that ain't on PC and you really want it, are you not gonna get it on a console? Graphics don't make the game, yeah it looks real nice but it's never dragged me in that much.

If you just started PC gaming, then obviously its a new and refreshing experience for you. I started getting into PC gaming about 10 years ago but have never left consoles. I tend to consider PC gaming the more hardcore experience but consoles are good for a more laid-back experience or playing games with friends. Plus, there's just certain game series that are just hard to quit, which for me, is the Halo games. The Wii kinda ruined my favorite Nintendo game series as far as I'm concerned :?

It's not really the graphics that get to me. It's the 30FPS so many console games run at. I spent a good number of years playing twitch shooters at 100hz/100FPS on crts. 60FPS/60hz on my LCD already doesn't seem particularly smooth. 30FPS is jarring.

Do you expect a negative response from his experience with PC gaming?

Not necessarily, but I have a friend with a lot of money, and last year he shelled out a ton of money on a $2000+ gaming rig because he wasn't very familiar with PC gaming and only heard what others told him. He travels a lot though and hasn't had many opportunities to play that PC. Nowadays he has been playing his ps3 and finally when he got back home (he is in the military) he bought a 360. I haven't heard him talk about that PC since he bought it. He also bought a laptop capable of playing games on early this year but hasn't been playing that either. So why would he do that? He's got friends on his consoles for one, and two, it's pretty simple: PC gaming isn't all its hyped up to be, atleast if you already own a console.

That's a multiplat from 2008 that wasn't even that impressive for its time.

EDIT: plus the Ps3 version is sub HD, not the 360 version.

theuncharted34

Actually, it was pretty impressive back then for an open world game.

Now though... ugh, even the 360 version which looks far better than the sub-HD PS3 version looks awful.

Considering the hype, yes. It looked amazing, best game I saw at the time (Witcher 2 looks better to me) but didn't live up to the hype graphically :P
