Well in truth your all wrong. They are both art. Yawn.... Oh by the by about the Picasso comments. Take a look at some of the sculptures he did. Like it or not the guy built up a great volume of work to the point of which no matter what anyone says or does "The Bull" will always be considered a piece of abstract art. One more thing art is subjective otherwise we couldn't classify it.Konxumer
This response is art
Completely subjective and overrated. The "art" in Crysis is it's mechanics. It's core. Art in video games is more than what you see. It's the medium as a whole. TekkenMaster606
Somehow, I understood everything you made in this point, and fully agree with it at the same time.
Good art styles and good stylization aren't mutually exclusive.
And I swear to God, the first person to try and tell me that you can't critisize something because "its art" is going to get their legs broken.
t3hTwinky
but....you cant critisize art....
i meanm your stuff gets critisized on a secondly basis, but thats cus their not very good
[QUOTE="Jakendo"][QUOTE="air_wolf_cubed"]Art is not about photo-realismogvampire
Andy Warhol disagrees
thats not photo-realist art. look up chuck close for a good example
Google Ron Mueck, look at images, hiper realism, they look more real then reality lol.
So a picture is better than an oil painting?
james28893
art is subjective, everyone has their own likes/dislikes/opinions
one person, or alot of people, saying the same thing, dosent make it a fact (alto some art is universaly liked)
[QUOTE="james28893"]So a picture is better than an oil painting?
Always-Honest
are all oil paintings good?
OK, a good oil painting vs a good picture?

heh. wow. they are a little creepy
I like things really realistic or reallly hi res.
Does this make me an unsophisticated barbarian? No.
I just don't see whats so artistic about games like Okami. If you ask me its just laziness on the devs part. Imagine Okami in hi res textured detail. It would be awesome

i disagree. but then again, art is all opinion anyway, eh?
[QUOTE="air_wolf_cubed"]Art is not about photo-realismAAllxxjjnn
It can be.
yeah i dont understand why art in video games has to be about cell shaded cartoons.
i think chasing realism is lazyness...Always-HonestSo Leonardo da Vinci, and Michelangelo were lazy? Acheiveing realism in drawings, paintings or even games is not easy. As a art student I should know. Try drawing/painting a realistic photo and tell me that was easy.

Anyone who knew anything about art knows that games like Crysis, and Gears are art.ANYTHING can be art.
i can chew a piece of gum, wrap it up in a dollar bill and place it on a pedestal. im sure some comtemporary art galleries would just jump at the chance to exhibit that piece.
on another note: i hate contemporary art
ogvampire
not all of it is bad; you've probably just been exposed to too much "outsider art" ;)

I'd take style over realism any day. As long as the art work looks good.
I don't understand the appeal of Crysis...It has amazing graphics, anddddddd that's about it my friend. At least Okami has cool visuals AND good gameplay.
Don't compare Crysis to Okami. Capcom gets much more respect from me than Crysis earns.
[QUOTE="imprezawrx500"]I agreed, I like games to look relistic rather than have some so called "art style"Nick-N4ck
If I want real I'll look out my window
Learn to spell realistic before you demand it in your games.
Some games have to look realistic to maintain a theme. Are you saying that Gears would have been better if it had a SMG art style? And if a want a racing sim shouldn't it have realistic graphics? Some games have to have realism.[QUOTE="ogvampire"]ANYTHING can be art.

heh. nah, im into art. i also used to work at the Los Angeles County Art Museum. i have looked through every artbook they have, i have seen just about every example of contemporary art.... its just not my thing.
Style just isn't your thing?
This isn't much of a discussion. It's just retarded. I'm out of here.
This is like calling people who watch cartoons stupid, because there's real actors on. Peace.

The whole art argument is subjective to each individual, not unlike that "fun" games argument.
What most people refer to as art usually strays away from the generic within this industry most of the time. GeoW and Crysis easily fall into that category, but when looked closer, there are plenty of really creative artists within their teams. The end result just ends up falling right into the cookie cutter categories and ends up boring most of the audiences in the long run.
Okami, Shadow of the Colossus and games similar (or dissimilar to the norm) tend to break away from the generic conventions that plague this industry every single year. So even if the gameplay may not be unique in certain cases, or even seen as gimmicky, the "art" argument comes from their presentation and aesthetic values.
[QUOTE="dgsag"][QUOTE="Eponique"]So you find more art in mathematical equations than a language?
Eponique
Some people do... :|
I wasn't aware that there was art in mathematical equations in the first place, but if you say so...
For example, did you know that the "beauty" we see in nature is heavily based on the Fibonacci numbers? Didn't? Google it...
