[QUOTE="Pug-Nasty"]I'll never understand CoD fans' inability to recognize the very legitimate criticisms levied against the series. They would make good lemmings.Pug-Nasty

I will never understand why so many people put so much hate on the series. Can't you put your energy into something more productive?

So, another one with his fingers in his ears going "lalalalala?"

I am a COD fan, and i understand it's being milked and I've even traded in MW3 for my friends iPhone. But I never understand how people like you spend so much time hating it. Most CoD fans (on GS atleast) dont bang on about how it's the best game ever. We just quietly enjoy it. But the haters spend so much time making hateful threads and post to the game, rating it low on metacritic despite not even having played the games and other stupid arguements. Sure the game has flaws, and it's not the deepest game out. But it's made to be enjoyed by the masses. But if you're so selfish that you don't want a game that everyone can enjoy thats your problem.

That last bit was directed at haters in general not you

Because a lot of casual gamers think that 60fps is pretty.

Textures? ppft. Lack of awesome lighting? Pfft. Confined maps? Pffft.

*Sarcasm*

This is among many other reasons of course.

I don't spend any more time hating the game than I do replying to any other post on this forum. It's not an activity for me, just making conversation.

I play CoD from time to time. I don't dislike the gameplay or maps or balancing. The only real issues I have with the game are the poor production values especially in regards to the online gameplay... netcode, p2p, etc.

The game is barely functional online, and that is the problem. It isn't made to be enjoyed by the masses, it's marketed to be sold to the masses. There is a difference. People will only buy what they are aware of, and CoD makes more people aware of it than any other game.

I don't ask that people start disliking the game. I ask that they recognize that the game is a laggy pile of crap. I don't think that's too much to ask.

Call of Duty is popular because it is both accessible and polished and has room for more hardcore players as well.

Its easy to get into, but as a lot of freedom in options so you can get in and out of a match and have a blast instantly without needing to wait or work at it, but it still has some depth to it.

Its just incredibly accessible to all types of gamers.

Maybe your internet sucks, since CoD tends to favor people with higher pings.

Don't even try to imply that CoD isn't laggy, it's a well-known fact acknowledged by everyone who has played the games that isn't also an irrational fanboy of the series.

It's there, but unless you're paying 5 dollars for some cheap ass internet it's rarely a problem. Like maybe 1/20 deaths can be accounted for because of it, and that's not too bad.

I think you're just whining about what's largely a non issue. Or maybe you're one of those kids that can't accept the level of their own abilities and blames everything on lag.

I play COD on the Wii, and I can't say that I've ever had any problems with Lag outside MW3 when it first launched. And even MW3 was eventually patched to make it play closer to BO. Keep in mind, the Wii has a signifeclty worse online system then the 360 and PS3, and even with that I can't say I've had any real issues with lag while playing COD.

In fact, I've had more problems with lag in games like Brawl. I'm not saying the lag is not there, but its simply not noticeable to me when I play. And outside a few rare cases I've never had problems aiming due to lag. In fact, given the technological limitations of the Wii's hardware and online, the online runs pretty smoothly.

Its easy to get into and does not make it feel like the challenge to get better is unbelievable. Why do you keep seeing those ads around the internet for "Make Easy Money", or "This horny girl lives right next to you". Its because unless you have some dedication to what you are trying to accomplish you will find it hard to succeed or exceed.

..

And to protect myself from wise cracks to some extent, for every banner add you see someone is sitting on the other side and counting how much it cost them. In banners that number will probably be a CPM or more rarely CPA but the point being is that if you see an advertisement and you keep seeing it, its making money, people are clicking..

Don't try to pass off your experience and some others as fact. My experience besides the occasional laggy match was just fine. So many people are playing it someones bound to have a crappy match.

Because its casual as its gets .. actually, COD itself is the definition of casual multiplayer gameplay easy to pick-up and play, easy to master.. invented the crutches to assist the player, such audio-spotting on the minimap (crap that is also featured on the also casual BF3).. low recoil, frantic fast paced action.. you don't need any skill to play COD.

I will never understand the Call of Duty hate. I don't like the games personally but a ton of people do - yet somehow that's a bad thing? If people enjoy it let them. People also like the Transformers movies despite those being awful (to me) - but I don't care if people like them. If people like Call of Duty they do ... so be it. It must be something with the gaming community or something, because god forbid someone has different gaming tastes than you!

Call of Duty, League of Legends, World of Warcraft: What do they have in common? Huge popularity. Why is that? Because of their ACCESIBILITY. They are EASY to play. Any casual can pick up the controller or sit in front of a keyboard and be good at CoD, as opossed to playing Quake or Battlefield that require time to learn. LoL is an extremely dumbed down and easified version of it's inspiration, DotA. And WoW basically moved the MMOs genre from being all about a huge world and player relations and guild politics, to story-driven instances, and PvP ensuing from fights over PvE spots or bosses, to set-up faction PvP and battlegrounds.

Basically, CoD, like other games before it and after it, is popular because it's easy, forgiving, and doesn't require any time to learn how to play. Like those other games, it also casualised it's genre and made every dev out there go after it's crowd.

Doesnt mean the game will be wildly popular. Easy =/= record shattering sales. It's simple and FUN. It's a fun game. Personally I think BF3 runs all over it, and make COD seem very primitive. Say what ya want, but COD is fun.

I really don't know what people are talking about. This game is like every multiplayer game, there are good kids, and bad kids. Just sounds like they'll take anything they can to bash the series whether it makes sense or not.

If you want you can add me on PSN and look at my stats on Black Ops. I think I have some gameplays on there too. Considering I have been playing FPSs on the PC for the past year where the average skill level is much higher I would going back to simple ass CoD would not be much of a challenge. I actually would probably be better than before

Well thats the only way I could prove it.

But you're too much of a snob and think that I give a fvck if about being on your friends list for a brief period. You can believe me or not. Either way, I really don't care what you think. If you want you can add me on PSN and look at my stats on Black Ops. I think I have some gameplays on there too. Considering I have been playing FPSs on the PC for the past year where the average skill level is much higher I would going back to simple ass CoD would not be much of a challenge. I actually would probably be better than before

BPoole96

pshh...as if you are worthy of my friends list.

Well thats the only way I could prove it.

But you're too much of a snob and think that I give a fvck if about being on your friends list for a brief period. You can believe me or not. Either way, I really don't care what you think. You ask for proof and I give you the only means to but you'd rather dismiss it because you're afraid of me being right

lol i was joking around. i honestly don't care, i just love f*cking with COD haters, they're such a bitter bunch.

QQabitmoar

As if Battlefield or DotA require skill. Step up.

[QUOTE="TopTierHustler"]Maybe your internet just sucks or u suck at aiming. I rarely have problems with lag.

OB-47

Maybe your internet sucks, since CoD tends to favor people with higher pings.

Don't even try to imply that CoD isn't laggy, it's a well-known fact acknowledged by everyone who has played the games that isn't also an irrational fanboy of the series.

Don't try to pass off your experience and some others as fact. My experience besides the occasional laggy match was just fine. So many people are playing it someones bound to have a crappy match.

Some matches being crappy isn't the problem. Only some matches being okay is. You don't notice lag? Fine, but I guarantee you someone you're playing with or against does. It's the most common word posted on the CoD forums for a reason, so it is a fact. There are two reasons for this. The net ode isn't very good and the match making has no standards. Lag is pretty much always there, but it's either working for you or against you. That's the only difference.

Because it's fun. I think it got a lot of people hooked with COD4, then World at War, which were both very addictive, good shooters. Yeah Black Ops wasn't the best, nor MW3, but their still decent shooters. I know a lot of people who really aren't into playing video games too much, but went out and got either a xbox, or PS3, just to try out this COD, and to see what all the rave was about. Then they were hooked. I have friends on my friends list who just play COD. They'll be on when I go to work, then still on when I get home. I'm not a big COD player. I prefer BF3, or even the Rainbow 6 series, but I do think COD is a great series. It's sad how some people have learned to manipulate , or cheat in the game. I was playing World at War the other day and this kid took over 50 rounds, turned and looked at me, slowly walked up to me , while I was shooting him, then knifed me! That's what ruins the experience in my book. COD is good, but they do need to reboot the series.

it does ;)

I haven't played a CoD game in over a year and I am conifdent that if I were to play I would be one of the top players in the lobby. The aim assist is an absolute joke so there really is no getting used to the controls

I have been playing Modern Warfare 3 online for a while now, and I can tell you that you have no clue what you are talking about. I gamed on pc for two years in the fps genre without touching a controller. Then I bought another ps3 after having sold it two years ago. I can tell you right now I sucked so bad at aiming for a while that I hit everything except my target, and I play with aim assist always turned off. I played Resistance 3 and COD MW 3 for a month, and I've gotten used to using subtle movements with my right thumb to aim. It helps that the analog controls are fluid and easy to handle. I downloaded Crysis for my ps3 and played it. The analog controls aren't worth a crap!!! Aiming down my sight helps a little, but even then, I struggle to maintain control of Nomad. I've gotten better at controlling him, but it seems that the feel of the analog controls really matters in a first or 3rd person shooter. I have zero problems actually aiming in COD MW 3. The only trouble I have is when I'm playing the demo to KZ 3 is when the target is moving around in that game. I can't aim properly. If I'm moving, I can maintain my aim on the target. It just takes a lot of practice to get analog controls nailed down, but it's not impossible as you say.

Not really. It's popular because of its instant gratification and flavour of the month qualities, combined with the robust (and I'd say outright flawed) multiplayer offering a wealth of content.

So many ignorant people saying COD doesn't require skill. That's the saddest thing I ever heard on system wars.

every FPS game on consoles have aim asssist. you would also be in the top easily in halo and battlefield if you claim that u can easily be at the top if you haven't played over a year. I could do the same with any FPS game on console, not just call of duty. so quit being ignorant, thanks.

It isn't a game that demands it, but naturally it requires a level of it. However, what separates COD from many games is that the barrier of entry and demand for proficiency is fairly low, and it's a big reason the game has mass appeal. This isn't Tribes Ascend of Counter Strike for instance.

It's not. It's a run and gun FPS, but not a fast paced shooter. Fast is as that link shows - arena shooters like Quake, Warsow, UT or oddities like Tribes.

Ok... what about the good ole medal of honor which is pre-call of duty? It wasnt any more popular than counter strike.

Because it's a competitive scene, and naturally it's going to be filled with competitive players. Any game can have a competitive scene, any game demands a level of skill from the players. What we can use to actually determine how much of a demanding game it is, is by judging it for what it is, and COD's design isn't one that's demanding, and I'd say it's heavily based on instant gratification gameplay and a lower ceiling of skill.
