I haven't played a CoD game in over a year and I am conifdent that if I were to play I would be one of the top players in the lobby. The aim assist is an absolute joke so there really is no getting used to the controls

I have been playing Modern Warfare 3 online for a while now, and I can tell you that you have no clue what you are talking about. I gamed on pc for two years in the fps genre without touching a controller. Then I bought another ps3 after having sold it two years ago. I can tell you right now I sucked so bad at aiming for a while that I hit everything except my target, and I play with aim assist always turned off. I played Resistance 3 and COD MW 3 for a month, and I've gotten used to using subtle movements with my right thumb to aim. It helps that the analog controls are fluid and easy to handle. I downloaded Crysis for my ps3 and played it. The analog controls aren't worth a crap!!! Aiming down my sight helps a little, but even then, I struggle to maintain control of Nomad. I've gotten better at controlling him, but it seems that the feel of the analog controls really matters in a first or 3rd person shooter. I have zero problems actually aiming in COD MW 3. The only trouble I have is when I'm playing the demo to KZ 3 is when the target is moving around in that game. I can't aim properly. If I'm moving, I can maintain my aim on the target. It just takes a lot of practice to get analog controls nailed down, but it's not impossible as you say.

So what you're saying is that you have trouble aiming on other games but not MW3? Basically proving my point that MW3 has excessive ai assist.

And note that I have played console games for a good 18 years of my life and just recently got into PC. Using a DS3 isn't an issue for me and I can easily go back and forth between kb/m and a DS3

every FPS game on consoles have aim asssist. you would also be in the top easily in halo and battlefield if you claim that u can easily be at the top if you haven't played over a year. I could do the same with any FPS game on console, not just call of duty. so quit being ignorant, thanks.

Nope I used to play BC2 on PS3 and I wouldn't get top spot that often. Same with Killzone 2/3. I did okay on those games but on CoD I could take over an entire match because of how easy it is

[QUOTE="skrat_01"][QUOTE="sethman410"]So many ignorant people saying COD doesn't require skill. That's the saddest thing I ever heard on system wars.sethman410
It isn't a game that demands it, but naturally it requires a level of it. However, what separates COD from many games is that the barrier of entry and demand for proficiency is fairly low, and it's a big reason the game has mass appeal. This isn't Tribes Ascend of Counter Strike for instance.

Ok... what about the good ole medal of honor which is pre-call of duty? It wasnt any more popular than counter strike.

Medal of Honour was run and gun (slightly slower paced) and so was the first COD (which I played competitively for a while) - UO moreso. These games weren't heavily based around instant gratification, they were quite steeped in older design ethics then rewards, hitscan weapons and low hit points. But I wouldn't call them very demanding games either compared to other shooters.

well that depends how competitive you want to get. Getting into MLG does require alot of skill...

Because it's a competitive scene, and naturally it's going to be filled with competitive players. Any game can have a competitive scene, any game demands a level of skill from the players. What we can use to actually determine how much of a demanding game it is, is by judging it for what it is, and COD's design isn't one that's demanding, and I'd say it's heavily based on instant gratification gameplay and a lower ceiling of skill.

Yeah whatever, but it does still depends on how competitive you want to be. Call of duty became popular because of the content with the 4th one. There was no other FPS at the time that had such multiplayer with perks, customizable weapons and killstreaks. Multiplayer content was the reason why call of duty is popular, not because its accessible as some people claim here on GS. Sure, it can be accessible but its mostly due to the content of the multiplayer component. So, its not like its alienating the hardcore crowd. The reason why most of us here on GS say COD is easy because most of the players online are casual. So, if everyone was hardcore playing COD, then it's a different story. You wouldn't come here and tell us COD is popular because it's easy if it was filled with hardcore players instead of casual players.

Well, i can easily top those spots with killzone 2/3 and battelfield. But i cant on counter strike on the PC. Somethings fishy.

EDIT: But honestly, your forgetting something. There are far more casual players playing COD than Killzone2/3 and BF. So, you're wrong. If everyone was hardcore playing cod, you would have a hard time being the top.

Geez, what the heck are you talking about? I also mentioned Resistance 3, you know. I'm good at aiming in that game, and I turn aim assist off. It's something about the feel of the analog controls in Crysis that make it hard for me to aim. Further more as I said before, I've been playing the Killzone 3 demo, and I've gotten better at aiming in that game as well. You haven't played Modern Warfare 3, have you?

They're easy to get in to, decent graphics, smooth gameplay, and it's fun.

It is not, however, easy to be good at. Anyone who says differently either never played against anyone genuinely good, are haters, or just a natural at it. Which seems more likely....

COD4 was a reinvention of the series; there was the addition of those features you mentioned, but more importantly an entire re-branding of the image and making the IP much more relevant and contemporary. And it was a damn good game that was well received for what it was. Accessibility is something that COD has moved much more into since COD4; this is a game that set its instant gratification direction initially, which has subsequently eclipsed everything else as the series progressed. COD is an 'easier' game because of the way its design, it was never made to be something alienating or something difficult for new players since COD4 onwards,; and it was designed to be something anyone could get into and feel a sense of reward and progression as well as degree of personalisation. And yes it wouldn't have mass market appeal if it was like Tribes Ascend, Quake or Counter Strike 1.6; this accommodating design and low level of entry, as well as reward is a huge reason why its popular. Funnily enough this is all fairly blatant stuff.

Idk I've played several hours and I consistently do well on CoD. On other games I just do average. Ironically I have more fun on the games where I do average

I have played it on PC (Free weekend a few weeks ago), but not on consoles. And I don't really have to play it on consoles. I've played CoD4, MW2, and Black Ops. They all control exactly the same so there really is no need to me to see for myself.

Maybe your internet sucks, since CoD tends to favor people with higher pings.

Don't even try to imply that CoD isn't laggy, it's a well-known fact acknowledged by everyone who has played the games that isn't also an irrational fanboy of the series.

Pug-Nasty

Don't try to pass off your experience and some others as fact. My experience besides the occasional laggy match was just fine. So many people are playing it someones bound to have a crappy match.

Some matches being crappy isn't the problem. Only some matches being okay is. You don't notice lag? Fine, but I guarantee you someone you're playing with or against does. It's the most common word posted on the CoD forums for a reason, so it is a fact. There are two reasons for this. The net ode isn't very good and the match making has no standards. Lag is pretty much always there, but it's either working for you or against you. That's the only difference.

Why would people make a thread about a non event? Why would I make a post saying "hey I had a really normal and fine game!!"

A lot of people are suffering bad connections and lag, A lot aren't. With so many playing people are bound to lag.

I think some of them do. COD4, 3, and 2 seem like they do. Now there seem to be mods out, which really ruin the experience. I was playing World at War on the 360 and I emptied my clip into a unsuspected opponent, then he turned to me, slowly walked up to me, as I was blasting him, and knifed me! I just turned off my 360 and realized the online component of that game is now void.

Don't let your fanboy goggles blind you to the fact that when a new COD drops the mass market think "dude sick, so realistic." Of course they aren't anywhere near the best, but they don't suck and that's the point.

COD still has solid visuals on it's own, just don't put a pic of COD next to Battlefield 3.

COD graphics are dated.

The lag is due to p2p, total amount of players has nothing to do with it. The match hosts brother starts downloading porn in the other room and then everyone lags.

Yeah. People act like the game stinks! The game is good. Maybe too much hype and it didn't live up to it, but the series is still pretty solid. Some people are now following the new fad, which seems like it's to hate on COD. lol
