If Mass Effect and Halo 3 go to PC would there be a reason to own a 360?

yes.

i like splitscreen play that pc versions won't have.....

besides, i'd HATE to try to cram 4 people around my 19" monitor....:(

tango90101

Because PCs can't be played on TVs. Jeese where are they crawling out from today?

sounds like fun..

i get to disconnect all lines into my tower.

lug the tower into the next room.

hope i have the connections i need to use my hdtv.

balance a k/b and mouse on my lap while reclining in my favorite gaming chair.

somehow find more connections on my tower for 3 more controllers so my friends can play...

oooooo...that just ooozes "fun"...

i have no idea where you crawled from, but you should crawl back in...;)

So in essence, you're too lazy to perform a 10 minute anaerobic excerise. ZOMG TEH HARD.

and an insane balancing act.... and a tower modification to add 3 more controllers....

read next time.

thanks

a tower modification? your pc is so old it dosn't even have a usb port you can plug a hub into? i ubderstand your distane for pcs. buy a new one and quit useing grandpa's commadore 64.

Xbox 360: Pop in and Play

PC: Verify system requirements, download patches for the game and video card, install the game and pray that it works, play with the video settings for an hour (minimum), and play until you hit a game crashing bug. Rinse and repeat.

darklord888

Xbox 360: Pop in disc, fiddle with HDTV settings for an hour(minimum), get RROD, call MS, wait for MS to send a "coffin", send 360 to MS, wait 3-4 weeks, get new 360.

PC: Put in disc, install for 2 minutes, play.

See? I can do it too.

Could make it worse. Plug into TV, charge dead controllers, put disk in tray, get game crippling glitch, console heats up burns down house, live in car, die of disease

but back to the original post, yes there is a reason to buy a console over a pc. go to gamestop, most dont even carry pc games, just console games. console gamming is bigger than pc gaming. look at the top ten sellers on the pc charts. most are old games. on console charts it changes very fast, you get more new games on consoles. there is a reason the sims is still a best selling game on the pc....a lack of competition.

the real question is when the 360 gets mgs and ff (which will happen, they developer and publisher are going to have to get their money back) will there be a reason to get a ps3? the fact is that even with them as exclusives for the time being there still isn't a reason to get a ps3 for most people. and it's going to get worse for sony, they are going up against a real ms price cut and halo3 this christmas. the 360 will get all the 3rd party developers. the wii has had one top ten 3rd party game, the ps3 has had one, the 360 has had 23. the 360 will get all the 3rd party games the ps3 does, and many that it dosn't. no need to waste time and money on a flopped console. sony dreamcasted the ps3.

If by lack of competition you mean the most announced exclusives and annually released high quality titles. Just go to Bestbuy. The PC section TRUMPS the other console sections.

Those games aren't even out yet, but there are already tons of reasons to CURRENTLY own a 360.

Lately I've been contemplating whether or not I should buy a 360 and after listening to the recent Hotspot podcast I realised Mass effect is more than likely going to be ported to the PC as kotor was and Halo 1 and 2 are already on the Pc so there's really nothing stopping them from releasing halo 3 on the Pc too. And then I thought if all of the 360s big games (bioshock, Halo 3, Mass effect, Gears) end up going to the PC is there any point in owning a 360 or am I just better off buying a high end PC. I will probably end up getting the 360 because a good pc is expensive but do you guys think MS is making a wrong move by porting all of its big titles to another platform?MGS9150

I'll put it in a vey simple way: No rentals and Must wait 1 year to 2 year to play ports. For me, I have the cash to upgrade to an awesome PC but I'm not about to bring that PC in my living room andhook it to my 60 inch screen. It would be a monstrosity and I don't want to browse the internet on a huge screen (excluding everyone else from using the TV).

In other words, there are tons of reasons to own an X360 (if you are interested in PC games and more) but the reasons differ for different people. I've given you my 3 biggest issues. I'm sure others have similar or perhaps different issues (ease of use, less expensive etc).

Internet Gaming Cafes. You wanna bring up rentals? Heck, I can just spend 10 bucks to play all the PC games to my little heart's content. Just like renting, AND EVEN CHEAPER! Not to mention I could careless if you're too lazy to hook your PC up to your TV. The fact remains the option is there. OMG I'm TOO LAZY TO HOOK MUH 360 UP, ITS BAAAAD.

Internet Gaming Cafes??? Pfffffttt........ there are serious issues inherent within those. I don't have any around my place and I'm sure others don't have any around their place either. I want an intimate experience. I don't want to play Bioshock while some guy next to me is screaming. If you have been to an internet cafe, you would know the environment (not to mention a paltry number of games on hand to play). Speaking of Bioshock, won't be availabe in any internet cafe. Definately not like renting................ (but then again, in your world the definition may be different).

You should re-read what I have mentioned in my last statement. I'm not lazy to hook up the PC, its just not practical for me to bring this monstrosity into the living room (and do everything there aside from just gaming). I'm sure thats the case with most people.

You realize I could apply the same logic to renting games? I don't have any Holywood Videos, Blockbusters, etc. I prefer a much more intimate experience by buying my games. Your rentals mean nothing to me. Bioshock IS available in internet gaming cafes. Try going there one time. So its impractical to carry a five pound box twenty feet? ZOMG ANAERBOIC WORKOUT WILL KILLS JOO.

Yes except there are many more places that offer video rental services....... not to mention online services (which I use such as gamefly). Intimate experience = playing game by yourself..... in the privacy of your own home...... under your rules...... in a closed and controlled environment. Where I get the game doesn't have any effect on intimate experience.

Yes it is impractical for me to carry a 30 pound box around the house back and forth. After 8 - 10 times a day, just about anyone would give up. I have already been to an internet cafe but without properly reading my previous statement you wouldn't know (every placethat I went to did not...... I REPEAT.... did not have any new offline games playable on their PCs).

Lastly, I could care less what you think about my issues. I'm not trying to convince you to stay away from a gaming rig. But..... it seems you are somehow hung upinbelieving that I'm trying to persuade you in some way. Also, stop grasping for straws. Your all out of them.

Irrelevant. You're the one who decided to go by a case by case basis here. I cand easily apply you're logic to my perdicament as well. You see, renting games is jsut as valid as an internet gaming cafe. Anything else you say to any extent on that point alone doesn't really matter. Intimacy is an irrelevant preferance that has no bearing on the fact of what I'm saying. I may prefer a more sociable setting. ZOMG. The fact of the matter is nothing is keeping you from keeping your rig on your living room at all times. If you're willing to overexaggerate the weight so much, I wonder just how much else you're either lying or overexaggerating. Its makes me question your credability.

[QUOTE="manningbowl135"]A 360 costs you $350. A high end PC costs upwards of $1200. I don't buy enough games so those numbers will ever catch up to each other. BTW, console gaming does have their advantages. TV (I know PC can do that, but need extra stuff for that), comfortable setting, easier gaming (no installation, troubleshooting, computer hanging issues, just insert and play). Whatever. I have a couple PC games, but I don't spend money on my computer for gaming. In short, PC gaming is better. But consoles are cheaper, easier and can be played in your preferred setting. Vandalvideo
"A 360 is the equivalent of a low to mid end PC" Epic games A PC on par with consoles would cost 520-660 dollars, which could easily be negated thanks to cheaper games, not only that, but you can use the exact same gaming setup, theres no installation on Vista, troubleshooting is mostly automated, there are bugs on the 360 including hanging in Bioshock, etc.

You couldn't possibly build a PC for 500-600 on any lvl close to a console. The console is made for gaming and as such is optimized. PC games always have to be LCD and would require much higher specs to get the same. I don't know about you but the last I checkd on the prices of Video cards, CPU, memory, HDD, monitors and software 500-600 wouldn't begin to cover.

I'm not a fan boy of any system, I have the PS3, 360 and a gaming machine. I don't even touch my PS3 or 360 as I'm on my PC all the time. All I'm saying is you can't build a comparable PC for only 500-600 unless you got hook ups.

Its called pricewatch/zipzoomfly. All you would need is a e6600, 7900GS, 1 gig of ddr ram ( base specs). From the ground up you could easily build a rig with those specs for anywhere between 520-660.

Unless they come out on PC this year, then yes. I have already waited long enough to play them. There is other games I want on 360 of course but that should answer your question.

The problem is you have no logic. Renting games doesn't = Internet cafe. Or perhaps in some alternate world that may be true........

If you prefer a social setting, then by all means go to an internet cafe (if you have one near you and they are allowing you to play new offline games). Unfortunately, I don't. One more thing, find me an internet cafe that allows new offline PC games to be played at a reasonable price in the U.S. (not $10 an hour crap) and perhaps I might have more faith.

Many things are keeping me from keeping my rig in my living room. It seems you are trying to disregard, inherent flaws in previous statements. Even if the weight was less (which its not), its far too much hassle. And these are real life situations.

Actually, it is the same thing. You're paying money to borrow things for an alloted ammount of time that you are going to use. On the base level they are the same. And quit with the Ad Hominem crap, its getting annoying. Let me give you a REAL life situation. My rig weights 5-6 pounds, its hooked up to my PC with little to no effort, and I can do all kinds of work related stuff from TEH COUCH OMG. Thats a real life setting, equally as valid.

This would be an upgrade and not really a build of a new PC. All I know if I easily spend 700-1000 almost every year just in upgrades. Basically 600-700 going towards the video card. I prefer most of my gaming on the PC but sometimes the simplicity of just popping in a game, turning on the TV and grabbing a controller just as much fun.

Riddle me this. How is an entirely new computer built from scratch an upgrade? A 7900GS only costs 129.99. Thats fantastic, because with vista, you can pop in the game, turn on the tv and grab a controller.

Seems like you are stretching it. Yes they are similaron the base level butfar from same. I should havesaid Renting from Gamefly is not thesame as entering an internet cafe. Very different in option and user experience. You don't need to justify your purchase of a gaming rig. I could care less. If you know of an internet cafe that allows new offline PC games to be played and offers a great selection of games (I know it won't match a rental service)at a reasonable price (not $10 an hour crap) then by all means, give me the number and address of such a place in the U.S.

Lastly, it seems you are stuck at the same issue. Who said its not possible to hook a rig to your PC??? I said its not practical for me to do it..... and I'm sure that is the issue with many others.

You just said it yourself, they're the same on the basic level. I personally have no reason to justify the purchase of my PC. I already feel vindicated with the most announced exclusive and most highly rated quality titles released annually. As far as it being practical, you don't get what I'm doing here do you? The fact of the matter is annecdotal evidence really means jack crap. I could just as easily say, "Its impractical for me to hook my 360 up to my television. LAWL TEH 360 IS TEH BAD!". Its not somethign wrong with the system, its just my laziness.

I also said that they are far from being same. The funny part is, you still don't get it.............. NO its not impractical to hook up a console to a tv and leave he console hooked up forever without even using your pinky (its common sense and a voided argument unless you can provide me concrete reasons why its so troublesome). YES its impractical for me to hook up a PC to my HDTV and do all my work on the excluding everyone else from watching the TV.

It is also impractical for me to run around 5 -6 times a day with my PC from my office to the living room and then back to my office. You say its not impractical for you and thats fine but that still doesn't solve any of my 3 biggest issues. Your argument was for the sake of argument with nothing meaningful.

You have yet to provide me with the address and ph. no. of an internet cafe (as mentioned in my previous statement).

You can't say something definitevly as that. After all, you're only working off of annecdotal evidence here. By the turn of the coin, its not impractical for me to hook my PC up to my TV whatsoever, and my console is a pain in the A Posteriori( hehehe I wanted to say that)...Whats the lesson we've learned here today? Your annecdotals mean nothing. As far as an internet gaming cafe: A) I don't know where you live.

I'm not providing annecdotes. I telling the truth with actual reasons. In your case its sounds like, "because I just don't want to do it" hence making very little sense. I live in the U.S. and anywhere in U.S. is fine as I have the ability to travel.

Actually, providing anecdotes are EXACTLY what you're doing. You're providing stories or events from your only life to back up your case. I could just as easily use the same kind of evidence in my arguement. The PC is easy for me to hook up and is extremely practical. On the other hand, the 360 doesn't fit on to my shelf, takes up too much of the room I have left, and is a pain to plug in to the back of my TV. Its more of a pain than the PC. You see, I just did the same thing you did. Meaningless anecdotes. Besides, are you REALLLY willing to travel like 50 miles just to go to an internet gaming cafe? 0_o

No I'm not providing anecdotes because I'm not saying my issuse apply to everybody. Are you saying that every experience is an anecdote??

For you if hooking up a PCis less hassle, work and pain then hooking up a console, then those are your reasons. They don't apply to me. Lastly, I travel a lot.Give me the ph. number and address (if in the U.S.) of an internet cafe and I'll callthem. If its true, it will restore some of my faith and further decrease the need to build a gaming rig if I can play a couple of games at an internet cafe (meaning better for thoseunwilling to go the PC route since you don't need a PC to go to an internet cafe).Don't you want to share this special info???

Anecdote = personal experience or event. Thats exactly what you're providing to back up your statements. You're using flimsy anecdotal evidence. Plain and simple. My situation is just as valid. You see the dichotomy of annecdotes? They are worthless in debates.

My tale is neither interesting, amusing or special so its not an anecdote. Its a factual statement. I'm not backing anything up but rather telling forumites a true statement. Whether you believe me or not makes no different in the world. The issue applies to me. Moreover, you have provided meaningless arguments that do nothing for me or others. You argument about Internet cafes is flawed (as it suggests that investing in building a gaming rig is not needed). You have yet to give me a number and address.

"Why own a PC?" is just as valid a question. It certainly isn'y cheaper or anything.

So you can own two games that were on the 360 2 or 3 years ago? OK, have fun waiting.

I'll pay half as much for my 360, and I'll play the games now. Sounds like a more reasonable plan to me, sorry.

For me it is a factual statement since that is a true case. Its a different story if you think I'm lieing but I'm stating it as the truth and a fact and the PC is my situation more impractical to setup, carry around the house and deny others the use of the living room tv.

Now, there is a solution to such a problem but it means spending more money in buying an hdtv for my room. You don't seem to get the fact that I could care less about your situation but you are still hung up on my situation............. almost as though it deeply affects you in some way.......... perhaps even emotionally. I suggest you take a break. If you don't like my circumstances, provide a solution but please don't start another useless argument because I won't respond.

I could spin that right back at you. I don't care about your situation one bit, and its not evidence against the PC in any way, shape, or form.

Because it's cheaper solution for those who don't have a pc that isn't enough to run the games or simply don't like pcs for gaming which it's kinda rare.

Well you could always get the 360s other great exclusives, Gears and Bioshock. Oh wait.taikthebate

Ohhh teh cleverness...! get outta here...

Yeah, I agree with yoou. Plus, PC games are better because of mods, so it's a win-win.

People have already forgotten the great AAE games released on the 360. Not to mention other worthwile AE games (like Crackdown or Chromehounds).

People need to get enlightened on the subject.

Here's a reason: people who prefer console over pc who want to play a lot of the pc's great games without the hassle of buying a gaming pc.

A lot? You mean naught. Only a SMALL margin of PC games ever go to consoles to begin with. We still have a huge catalog exclusive games compared to any individual console.

Ohhh but after many posts, it seems you do. As far as my situation, it is the truth and hence a fact for me. Had I said its a fact for all gamers, then the situation may be different. As far as your problems, didn't care before you posted and don't care now.

I was looking to solutions for my problem and there are none except spending gobs of money (atleast you didn't provide me any except convincing me to not upgrade my PC since I can play all the games I want in an internet cafe (which is a lie by the way and you haven't provided any proof after asking you a gazillion times). Yes I have money but not to waste.

As far as your problems, I didn't care and don't care now. You're still portraying your ANECDOTE as a FACT, which it is most certainly not. Just because you, for some inconceivable reason, can't move your PC to your living room doesn't mean the PC is innately more impractical. Look at my word usage CAREFULLY this time. Innately, you get it? I haven't responded to your internet cafe thing, because as far as I'm concerned, if you're so interseted, you can look them up yourself.

[QUOTE="kingtito"]This would be an upgrade and not really a build of a new PC. All I know if I easily spend 700-1000 almost every year just in upgrades. Basically 600-700 going towards the video card. I prefer most of my gaming on the PC but sometimes the simplicity of just popping in a game, turning on the TV and grabbing a controller just as much fun. Vandalvideo
Riddle me this. How is an entirely new computer built from scratch an upgrade? A 7900GS only costs 129.99. Thats fantastic, because with vista, you can pop in the game, turn on the tv and grab a controller.

How in the hell is a 7900gs, 1g of ram and e6600 CPU an entirely new PC????? Genius you realize that you still need

1. Monitor

2. HDD

3. Keyboard

4. Gaming mouse

5. OS software

So if all you're going is replacing the CPU, Video card and ram then it's called an UPGRADE. Last time I checked you can't get all of that stuff plus what you mentioned for 500-600. Why don't you ponder that for a while

Another prime example of someone NOT READING MY FLIPPING POSTS. I said, "That is the base spec. You could easily build a fully functional machine with all the component to match a 360 for 520-660." Besides, STOP with the monitor crap, unless you want me to make you include the price for a TV on your 360.

This only makes sense if you want to wait a yr or 2 to play these games.

So as any self respecting person would say," this doesn't make a lick of sense"...

I 'd say this thread should have stop at like 2 post or something.

I give this thread a 1.3

You could easily build a fully functional machine with all the component to match a 360 for 520-660." Besides, STOP with the monitor crap, unless you want me to make you include the price for a TV on your 360.

lol good point with the moniter

The problem with the the whole monitor argument is that if you don't have a PC, the monitor is pretty much useless, but if you don't have a game console you can still us your tv.

[QUOTE="Vandalvideo"][QUOTE="kingtito"]This would be an upgrade and not really a build of a new PC. All I know if I easily spend 700-1000 almost every year just in upgrades. Then your price for a reasonable gaming machine is wrong and not really 500-600 because without all that stuff I mentioned, it's NOT a computer.

Why would I not include a monitor? When you purchase a console it's assumed youown a TV or else whybuy it. When you're building a computer a monitor is PART of the purchase. You can't useit without some sort of output device or else you'd just have a box with pretty lights in it.

I also forgot to mention you need a motherboardAND case. So your $500 - $600 window just got smashedinto a thousand pieces.

So please don't tell me you can build a decent "gaming rig" from scratch for around $500 - $600. Games today require a lot of resources and a cheap Emachine build ISN'T going to work.

Honsetly though, who doesn't have a PC monitor?

Including the price of a PC monitor in a PC setupis just as lame as including the price of a HDTV in a console setup(after all, you can play your 360 on a PC monitor in HD using a VGA cable.)

That being said, as I said before, it costs more to own/upgrade your PC than it does to purchase a new 360, the games are far more convenient (plug and play, none of this root kit/Securom/activation/fiddling with settings etc, nonsense.) The TC's original points were why own a360 when its biggest games make it to the PC eventually (Gears, Halo, Mass Effect,) my question is why own a PC if games like that are your primary reason for buying one? It makes no sense, the PC is more expensive and it can take up to 3 years for those games to make it over to it? By the time certain 360-first games make it to the PC the next iteration of the XBox will be on the horizon, and XBox players would have moved on to newer games.
