If Mass Effect and Halo 3 go to PC would there be a reason to own a 360?

I'm a big fan of PC gaming, but I bought a 360 to play Mass Effect this November instead of next November.

When KotoR came out, I had a xbox and a PC but I got the PC version since it wasn't released too much later after the xbox version (since it was published by Lucasarts instead of Microsoft)

oh yeah as for the monitor/tv argument. I play my PC games on my 40" 1080p bravia now that recent games support 16:9 1080p resolutions, like half life 2 and bioshock.

buy the PC. it's the best deal since you also get to play a lot of exclusives like Crysis, Spore, Hellgate: London, etc.

[QUOTE="RaveRabbid"]I was looking to solutions for my problem and there are none except spending gobs of money (atleast you didn't provide me any except convincing me to not upgrade my PC since I can play all the games I want in an internet cafe (which is a lie by the way and you haven't provided any proof after asking you a gazillion times). Yes I have money but not to waste.

Vandalvideo

As far as your problems, I didn't care and don't care now. You're still portraying your ANECDOTE as a FACT, which it is most certainly not. Just because you, for some inconceivable reason, can't move your PC to your living room doesn't mean the PC is innately more impractical. Look at my word usage CAREFULLY this time. Innately, you get it? I haven't responded to your internet cafe thing, because as far as I'm concerned, if you're so interseted, you can look them up yourself.

Stop twisting my words. I never used innately and in my situation a PC is more impractical than a console and that is a FACT for me. As far as the internet cafe argument, it is flawed because it is contradictory to your whole statement. No I can't rent PC games at home but I can rent a whole PC (under strict guidelines).

But, there would be even less purpose for me to invest in a gaming rig. As you said, $10 and play all the games you want.......... which is a lie since you have not provided any proof of any place (ph. no. and address) in the U.S. providing such a service. I suggest you move on. You have waisted enough of my time. Not interested in anymore useless arguments. You replace one useless argument with another. Bravo...... Good Job........

Then your price for a reasonable gaming machine is wrong and not really 500-600 because without all that stuff I mentioned, it's NOT a computer. Why would I not include a monitor? When you purchase a console it's assumed youown a TV or else whybuy it. When you're building a computer a monitor is PART of the purchase. You can't useit without some sort of output device or else you'd just have a box with pretty lights in it. I also forgot to mention you need a motherboardAND case. So your $500 - $600 window just got smashedinto a thousand pieces. So please don't tell me you can build a decent "gaming rig" from scratch for around $500 - $600. Games today require a lot of resources and a cheap Emachine build ISN'T going to work. kingtito
The price i mentioned includes ALL of the afforementioned. I wanted to save you some humilitity and give you time to shush, but you leave me no choice: 7900GS:125.99 http://castle.pricewatch.com/s/search.asp?s=7900gs&srt=t&mi=0&m=&view= Ram/MOBO/CPU combo: 290-350 ( includes price for additional ram) http://www.pricewatch.com/motherboard_combos_with_memory/core_2_duo_e6600_2.4ghz_cpu_fan_mem.htm Case:30 dollars XP: 77 dollars PSU: 30 dollars Keyboard + mouse = 30 Running price: 630-660. The unlinked stuff can be found at either pricewatch or zipzoomfly. Oh and PCs can hook up to TVs, so throw that one out Johnny Law.

[QUOTE="thirstychainsaw"][QUOTE="kingyotoX"][QUOTE="Vandalvideo"][QUOTE="kingtito"]

[QUOTE="Vandalvideo"][QUOTE="kingtito"]This would be an upgrade and not really a build of a new PC. All I know if I easily spend 700-1000 almost every year just in upgrades. Basically 600-700 going towards the video card. I prefer most of my gaming on the PC but sometimes the simplicity of just popping in a game, turning on the TV and grabbing a controller just as much fun. Bill_McBlumpkin

Riddle me this. How is an entirely new computer built from scratch an upgrade? A 7900GS only costs 129.99. Thats fantastic, because with vista, you can pop in the game, turn on the tv and grab a controller.

How in the hell is a 7900gs, 1g of ram and e6600 CPU an entirely new PC????? Genius you realize that you still need

1. Monitor

2. HDD

3. Keyboard

4. Gaming mouse

5. OS software

So if all you're going is replacing the CPU, Video card and ram then it's called an UPGRADE. Last time I checked you can't get all of that stuff plus what you mentioned for 500-600. Why don't you ponder that for a while

Another prime example of someone NOT READING MY FLIPPING POSTS. I said, "That is the base spec. You could easily build a fully functional machine with all the component to match a 360 for 520-660." Besides, STOP with the monitor crap, unless you want me to make you include the price for a TV on your 360.

lol good point with the moniter

The problem with the the whole monitor argument is that if you don't have a PC, the monitor is pretty much useless, but if you don't have a game console you can still us your tv.

Honsetly though, who doesn't have a PC monitor?

Including the price of a PC monitor in a PC setupis just as lame as including the price of a HDTV in a console setup(after all, you can play your 360 on a PC monitor in HD using a VGA cable.)

That being said, as I said before, it costs more to own/upgrade your PC than it does to purchase a new 360, the games are far more convenient (plug and play, none of this root kit/Securom/activation/fiddling with settings etc, nonsense.) The TC's original points were why own a360 when its biggest games make it to the PC eventually (Gears, Halo, Mass Effect,) my question is why own a PC if games like that are your primary reason for buying one? It makes no sense, the PC is more expensive and it can take up to 3 years for those games to make it over to it? By the time certain 360-first games make it to the PC the next iteration of the XBox will be on the horizon, and XBox players would have moved on to newer games.

That's not true. He's talking about building a brand new PC and not just an upgrade. If you're building a new PC it's assumed you don't have one. IF you don't have a PC then you wouldn't own a monitor. If that's the case then you would HAVE to factor in the price of a monitor. Most people have TV's be it HDTV's or regular SD so factoring in the price of the TV when buying a console isn't the same thing.

My point isif you're building a brand new PC and NOT upgrading, it's a hell of a lot more expensive than just buying a console.

And for me consoles are much more impractical. You see? I can play that game as well. If you are so interested in Internet gaming cafes LOOK THEM UP. They aren't that hard to find, and I'm sure you could do a better job of finding ones in oyour area.

This only makes sense if you want to wait a yr or 2 to play these games.

So as any self respecting person would say," this doesn't make a lick of sense"...

I 'd say this thread should have stop at like 2 post or something.

I give this thread a 1.3

So tell me how is someone going to order all this without a PC to begin with???? The average personbuilding his own PC isn't going to order everything online.

Frankly those components aren't going to run games such as Bioshock better than the 360 would.

Yeah PCs can hook up to a TV assuming you have it near. Most people DON'T and wouldn't even think of hooking it up that way.

Oh really? PROVE most people don't have it near them? You see, STOP MAKING BASELESS ASSUMPTIONS. Oh and that rig I provided is EASILY more powerful than the 360 and WILL provide graphics on par and better than. Thats roughly what I have, and it will easily be able to do so.

True, but if most people actually did that monitors wouldn't exist. Also SDTV resolution is so very low.

Yes, but I'm simply doing waht hes doing. I'm merely using his logic to justify not having to add the price of a monitor.

Really and how many people will hook up a computer to the TV??? Anything to back it up? Didn't think so.

No one will buy a PC w/o a monitor just to hook it up to the TV. I bet less than 1% of PC owners have it hooked up the way you suggest.

Like I said purchasing a monitor is a must and DOES factor in the final cost of building a PC. I know I know you can't grasp that concept yet. Say what ever you like to TRY and back up your previous post but you'll still be wrong.

Anyway I have a real game to play. Peace

Lately I've been contemplating whether or not I should buy a 360 and after listening to the recent Hotspot podcast I realised Mass effect is more than likely going to be ported to the PC as kotor was and Halo 1 and 2 are already on the Pc so there's really nothing stopping them from releasing halo 3 on the Pc too. And then I thought if all of the 360s big games (bioshock, Halo 3, Mass effect, Gears) end up going to the PC is there any point in owning a 360 or am I just better off buying a high end PC. I will probably end up getting the 360 because a good pc is expensive but do you guys think MS is making a wrong move by porting all of its big titles to another platform?MGS9150

Halo 3 will probably go to the PC, but why wait 2-3 years for it tocome to the PC?

Then how the Hell does he view and post in this forum so often, voodoo magic?!?!

And I never disagreed that PC gaming was more expensive. It is more expensive, hence my question "Why own a PC" if those games are your reason for owning one. That being said, factoring in the price of a monitor is foolish.

If Microsoft doesn't want Mac to get anymore marketshare, they should keep porting the games.

PCs can indeed hook up to a TV, but that requires a few specific components that people may or may not have. It also assumes people wish to keep their computer right next to their TV, which for a lot of people with multiple rooms, isn't the case. I don't see how this topic went from a debate about Halo 3 and ME on the PC to a war on whether or not everyone has a PC hooked up to their television (most people do not).

With PC gaming, anything can go wrong, such as programs conflicting and system requirements. With consols, it's ether the disc or the system.Legendaryscmt

and console's hardware goes wrong unlike pc, lasers die or they overheat or scratch disks.

If you don't want to buy a high end PC that will end up costing you much more than a 360, which is alot of console owners, then 360 is a good choice.

Or if you like owning games and don't want to end up spending exhorbant ammounts of money because of the higher prices of games on consoles then the Pc is a good choice.

exactly every year the extra cost of console games pay for a new graphic card

What's the point of buying a gaming PC when you can play Oblivion, Bioshock, Flatout, Fallout3, HL2, Halo3, Mass Effect, Fable2, C&C TW, GRAW, GRAW2, R6 Vegas, CoD2, CoD3, CoD4, Dark Messiah etc etc, on a 360?

If you have one HDTV it is impractical to your PC hooked up to it, if anyone else needs to use the computer or the TV. Really I'm going to sit there and surf the internet on my HDTV, and have everyone watch me. Stupid.

And those price lists you forgot the sound card, hard drive, and desktop speakers.

Vandal you have totally lost reality, an internet cafe is in no way as convenient as blockbuster. If you think I can only wonder about the life you live.

SgtWhiskeyjack

That is great and theres even more, which is why both the cows & hermits ( mostly cows b/c they want to ivalidate the 360 ) should stop with the: " If I have a PC, I don't need a 360" stuff !

It's a paper tiger and easy to tear down and only serves to put PC & 360 fans at odds with each other.

Come to think of it is another reason these threads keep being done by mad cows - just stop it already - the cats outa the bag ! ;)

Here is a quick thing you can say to yourself. There is absolutely been no annoucement for either those games to go toPC. Secondly if they do in fact come out for PC you will be waiting a long time for them to come out. I mean to sit here and make a decision on something thathasnt even been mentioned by anyone but fanboys is pretty ignorant.

yes.

i like splitscreen play that pc versions won't have.....

besides, i'd HATE to try to cram 4 people around my 19" monitor....:(

rdo

Because PCs can't be played on TVs. Jeese where are they crawling out from today?

sounds like fun..

i get to disconnect all lines into my tower.

lug the tower into the next room.

hope i have the connections i need to use my hdtv.

balance a k/b and mouse on my lap while reclining in my favorite gaming chair.

somehow find more connections on my tower for 3 more controllers so my friends can play...

oooooo...that just ooozes "fun"...

i have no idea where you crawled from, but you should crawl back in...;)

So in essence, you're too lazy to perform a 10 minute anaerobic excerise. ZOMG TEH HARD.

and an insane balancing act.... and a tower modification to add 3 more controllers....

read next time.

thanks

a tower modification? your pc is so old it dosn't even have a usb port you can plug a hub into? i ubderstand your distane for pcs. buy a new one and quit useing grandpa's commadore 64.

great...so now i get to buy a hub? anything else i get to buy?

you hermits make me laugh..

it's just not as easy as you make it out to be...

why should i go thru all of this, when i can just push one button the the 360 and play...?

lol it's actually true hermits will never admit the fact that's not so easy to play splitsreen/play in monitor on pc, even if you moved your pc to your tv room, you would have to take it back to the studio whenever you would need to print/scan/sketch/ etc.

also this argument will go nowere since hermits will never admit the evidence tango provided, why going with 20 minute hazle when you can fo it in the touch of a button on the 360.
