Really? When talking about Wii sales or 360 exclusives or blu-ray player (some computers come with a blu-ray player now), it seems like all PCs are for gaming.
I'd say its because the majority of PCs sold are not gaming rigs and never will be used for gaming short of minesweeper and solitaire, its too hard a number to keep track of. Also because there is no cut and dry launch date for PC's you can't break sales down into generations as easily as you can with consoles.PBSnipes
we go by games here and we reset the pc game count with the start of each new console generation.

Yeah, and when a PS3 is bought as a bluray player, it's supposed to count?
I smell hypocrisy.

Fair enough, but I thought we weretalking aboutsales, and to the best of my knowledge there is no good way of keeping track of PC sales, especially gaming PC sales. I think we can all agree it would be unfair to include all PC sales considering how many will never be used for any gaming whatsoever. I have no doubt that PCs (and maybe even gaming PCs) outsell the consoles every generation, but as far as I know there is no formal data showing that.[QUOTE="PBSnipes"]I'd say its because the majority of PCs sold are not gaming rigs and never will be used for gaming short of minesweeper and solitaire, its too hard a number to keep track of. Is that made obvious in the review area of the site? Is there a clearly divided PC section of reviews for last gen and this gen? Because when Iuse the drop down box to pick a system all I see is "PC". Not gen 6 PC or whatever.
if gaming pcs sell so great then why does ms want a console 2?deadmeat59Because they don't control PC gaming or earn a significant direct profit from it.

oh lord lets not have to start this again.......
The problem with this is there must be clear classification of PC gens for them to be compared to the consoles. It is only fair. PC seems to have an indefinite status in terms of generations, which makes it unfair to compare against consoles, which have a clear demarcation.
[QUOTE="CaseyWegner"]the ps2 didn't win. people just like to exclude things or make excusesto make their system look better.BromzOn sales it did.
nope.
PS2IMO only won in sales and in getting more casuals into gaming, kinda like the wii is doing now.
While the pc had the best games not just last gen but for decades now, just look at the upcomingconsole releasesmost of those franchises started on PC(UT3,HL2,CoD4...)
But the main reasonPC isnt crowned the winner is couse most PC gamers dont care about whats going on in this forum so they dont "advertise"their system as much!
PS2 won the Console wars not the system war.squirrel337
I don't want to turn this into a 360 topic, but if there's no such thing as a console exclusive, there's so such thing as console wars.

The point is people always say PS2 won the console war. I have yet to hear one person say the PS2 won the system war.

Living room dominance ... but they appear to be failing again .. make no mistake if the Xbox fails it will disapear ... PC gaming wont, Its a good portion of the Reason Windows > Apple in the average consumer's eyes (gamers, family ect).
If the shareholders decide Xbox is a failure ... Microsoft will be back supporting the PC full-time and developing .. is it 2nd party? and so on.
Honestly.....there is no such thing as a "system war" because, for example, the DS doesn't compete with the PS3 for sales and vice versa. I'm sure whatever people came up with the "System Wars" title was figuring it would be stuff like PS3 vs. Wii vs. 360...
Yeah, technically PC won the "system war" I guess it always does.....but for most people, a gaming PC is not a perfect substitute for a console, therefore there's almost no reason to compare their sales. Sure you can compare games....but comparing the sales isn't meaningful.
If it wasn't for the personalites this forum has, I would of left by now. Should be console wars, nobody cares about PC gaming...sorry hermits.butteater86
the fact that we even have the term "hermit" proves that people do care about the pc.

About 80% of adults play some form of game on their PC (even if it's solitaire)

But this is system wars. If people say PS2 won console wars here, it opens the door for all kinds of console terms. best console online, best console exclusives, best console controller, all those things.

PC always stays. It doesn't end a cycle like consoles, so that's why people don't take PC into consideration, even if it has the largest library of games.

Then lets make it fair: From the time of the 360's release, the PC has had 44 AAE titles, and the 360 12 or so. The PC has also had 8 AAA titles, the 360 5.[QUOTE="squirrel337"]The point is people always say PS2 won the console war. I have yet to hear one person say the PS2 won the system war.CaseyWegner
