[QUOTE="opex07"]Used games still have a positive effect on the gaming industry, developers may not get the money for the game but stores like Gamestop/ebgames will re-invest some of the profits they have earned from used games to buy new game products, this isn't the case for pirated software.

not really. eb games doesn't really ever want to sell new games, just those overpriced used games. just admit it used apart from the first time the game is sold is nothing but bad for the devs and the same as pirating. renting is also bad. a short game which can be beaten in a weekend get rented out by 1000 people and the store has bough 4 or so copies. that's terrible from the devs perspective. So, should we go shut down second-hand book and video stores as well? After all, Random House does not see money everytime a book is bought used, or when people go to a library to borrow the book. Same goes for the home video market. Since Paramount does not see money everytime someone rents or buys a used Star Trek movie, should we just close down Blockbuster, Netflix, or Hollywood Video?
That's the point everyone seems to ignore. Second hand games are no different than books or movies that are sold in the same manner. If we ban used games, than we might as well do it for books, movies, or other consumer goods.
