I'm not with him or anything, but so are a bunch of other games that catter to younger audiences. Kids like mature stuff, it has always been this way since... ever

lundy86_4

You realize that they are legal ratings, right?

You're saying that games will cater to younger audience, but kids will play it solely for the mature rating? It doesn't make sense if it caters to a young audience, by providing mature content.

are you serious? Are you honestly gonna tell me you werent interested in violent movies/games when you were younger? I know I was, and many other kids I met throughout my life. Hell, I was like 14yo when I first played RE because I kept hearing how gory it was. Being branded for mature by "legal ratings" mean sh1t when most kids still end up playing it. Wanna know how many kids play Halo? Just play online.

There is no gore in Halo, nor is there any sexual content or F-Bombs. It should be rated a T game at best.

An M rated game should be like Fallout or something, where you shoot the guy's head off. Even the old COD games are more violent than Halo, and those are rated T.

lundy86_4

Here is their rating process. It astounds me that you think you are more qualified to ascertain the game's intended age level.

It contains an immense amount of violence. All you do is kill things :?

All you do is kill things in Uncharted, many of the same things in Halo rating are found in Uncharted. There is nothing super violent about Halo and I see no reason for it to be an M rated game, I know I'm not the only one who thinks like this.

And the ESRB brings in random people, most of whom are not gamers, they watch parts of a game then decide what they think it should be. You are using a appeal to authority fallacy, for someone who claims to take a political science class you should know better than this.

Halo caters to a mature audience. Kids play it, but that's not the audience Halo caters to, period.

A proper character is a severely flawed person. It makes us more easily able to identify with them. A "perfect" individual is usually very bland and uninspiring. And the SPARTAN-II and SPARTAN-III program participants were all extremely flawed people. The prior were genetically "perfect" but had no proper development. The latter were orphans, of an extremely vengeful nature, many with severe mental disorders (a lot of sociopaths), trained to be suicide squads. The beauty about the Halo lore is that it represents humanity at it's absolute worst, trying to overcome it's impending extinction.Zeviander

The ESRB is a nationally recognized ratings board. I couldn't care less what you have to say compared to them.

Advice-Neckbeard.jpg

I have seen the whole game from start to finish and played a couple of those levels. If you want details PM me, I won't spoil the story for anyone.

ShadowMoses900

I didn't play much of the game, only a level or two. I don't believe in piracey so I don't support it. But it's only 5 hours long dude, it's really short and a bunch of QTE. Don't believe me, I don't care, you will find out for yourself soon. Just don't buy it for the campign, that's all I'm saying. If you want to know more about it PM me, I don't want to spoil the story for other people.

ShadowMoses900

It sucking is subjective, some people may enjoy it. The game has 8 missions, neither of which are very long. I played a level that was mid way through the game, I had to destroy 3 cores, which is very reptitive, and the immediately after that do the same thing again. Not going to talk about the other level due to spoilers.

The apparently has another ending that I didn't see beause my friend replayed it by himself on legendary and told me about it. I don't really like them as gamers because they don't support the industry, and my other legit 360 friends are tempted to mod their 360's too. I talk them out of it. Overall though it is one of the shortest campaigns ever made, and I don't think it's worth buying if you don't have XBL.

I don't see why, they should be rated T.

ShadowMoses900

Speaking of Master Chief, Shadowmoses and pathological lying - I finished the campaign dude. You know the one you said you played/observed friends playing? The one you said is 'full of quick time events.' WEIRDEST THING, there are no quick time events at all outside of the first level and even then there are only two; press X to open door and press X to pull an elite over the edge. Did you play a different version of the game that's chock full of QTEs? Can you loan me it?

I was trolling, it was obvious I wasn't being serious dude.

The funniest thing isn't the telling detailed lies about a game he has never played, but that in the lie he includes mythical friends who obviously do not exist.

ShadowMoses900

Actually, the fallacy is only committed when the appeal to said authority is not actually an authority on the required subject.

Uncharted and Halo are also rather different. Blood and Gore for a Mature rating denotes blood and possible mutilation of body parts, which takes place when fighting the Flood. Cortana could also be seen as a depiction of sexual content due to her noted "nudity" as an AI, this becomes more and more apparent as the Halo series progresses, note: Halo 4.

----

If you feel it should be rated lower, then that is your prerogative. The fact remains, however, that it is rated Mature, for a mature audience.

are you serious? Are you honestly gonna tell me you werent interested in violent movies/games when you were younger? I know I was, and many other kids I met throughout my life. Hell, I was like 14yo when I first played RE because I kept hearing how gory it was. Being branded for mature by "legal ratings" mean sh1t when most kids still end up playing it. Anecdotal evidence?

Halo is intended for a Mature audience.

Being kidnapped from your home at the age of six, trained as a soldier, fed propaganda, experimented on, and watching pretty much eveyone you grew up with die horrible deaths will do that to a person.

Chuubby

Bungie / 343 did such a bad job at presenting the Chiefs backstory and making him a likeable character. The only reason I know this stuff is because I read your post. ;/

the only reason you'd know that stuff is if you actually read the books its very lightly touched upon in the games.

I thought that was the main point Halo 4 was trying to get across... This all makes him a good character rather than the bland one-dimensional "perfect" character people easily mistook him as. I don't blame them. Bungie weren't very good at showcasing the side-effects of the SPARTAN-II augmentation.

I think Master Cheif appeals to a younger audience. The 360 fanbase is probably made up of younger mostly kids could not afford a PS3 when it launched, so they had their parents buy them a 360 instead with Halo.

I would argue that most 360 users only started gaming this gen or last gen.

Master Chief may be boring and redundant, but there are far worse characters in gaming this gen:

Lightning-So boring and bland, she has ZERO personality what so ever, no emotion is ever portrayed in her character. It felt like playing a robot, she represents FF13. She is bland and souless and so is the game.

Rico-Rico is from Killzone and he is the most generic meat head soldier in gaming history. But what makes him really annoying is how loud he is and how much he swears. He drops an F-bomb in every line, I wish they would just kill him out of the series.

Pikachu-I hate Poke'mon, they need to die. Enough said.

Roman-I hate him in GTA4. Not only can I never understand a word he's saying, I keep getting calls from him on a constant basis. He is annoying.

That dumb shop keeper in Skyrim-I stole from his shop a long time ago, like when I first got the game, and I got caught for it. I paid my bounty off through theif guild, but for some reason this jack ass STILL attacks me! And worst of all he will not die, he is a character for a quest and just get's back up off his knees. I can't even finish the quest because he will just attack me, and I'm lucky if I make it through town without him chasing me (he has another person in his shop that attacks me too and he walks around town regularly). I hate him, Bethesda needs to kill him off.

Ciscero-He is also in Skyrim and is in the Dark Brotherhood. There is something wrong with this guy, mentally wrong. And he is so flamboyant it gives me a headache.

Glarther-In Oblivion there is the dumb Wood Elf that chases me around. I hate Wood Elves in general, everyone knows Dark Elves are the best race and the one you should play as.

Being kidnapped from your home at the age of six, trained as a soldier, fed propaganda, experimented on, and watching pretty much eveyone you grew up with die horrible deaths will do that to a person.

I thought that was the main point Halo 4 was trying to get across... This all makes him a good character rather than the bland one-dimensional "perfect" character people easily mistook him as. I don't blame them. Bungie weren't very good at showcasing the side-effects of the SPARTAN-II augmentation.Arbiterisl33t69
That's probably because Bungie never actually tried to. Bungie presented him as a mythic hero. And when I say "mythic," I mean mythic in the Greek and Roman sense of the word. Bungie didn't want to explore the Chief as a human being. Look at the ads for Halo under Bungie. Look at the way the Chief is presented in the cutscenes. Look at the sheer awe other characters display in regards to him in-game. That's not the way you present a character you are trying to humanize. That's the way you present a character you want someone to be in awe of. There's a reason the ads for Halo 3 said things like "Believe" and "Heroes need not speak. When they are gone, others will speak for them." The Chief is an icon because Bungie made him into one by building him up as this legendary hero. People criticize Bungie for a lot of things in regards to storytelling, but most of them don't get it. There are some very, very talented writers at that studio. They portrayed the Chief the way they did for a very specific reason. The idea that they didn't understand their own franchise well enough to flesh out the Chief as a character is laughable. They just never wanted to. That said, you always had an idea of who he was, how he felt about Cortana, etc (Bungie did that much better, imo. 343 just made if f*cking weird) 343 doesn't want to do that. They want to explore him as a character. And that's fine. But I think something got lost in that transition, though I think I may be in a very real minority on that one.

I honestly don't think that's him, because 1. he would be less than six years old, and six year olds generally don't have those kinds of conversations. 2. If it is him, it doesn't do anything to humanize him other than say, "Yes, he was a child at some point."

For God's sake people, read the books. Then your opinion may have some ground.

If you have to buy a book to enjoy a game then the game is bad.

It's story should be good enough to hold up on it's own merits, however it doesn't.

Playing devil's advocate, I don't really think that's valid. Supplementary material should be used to expand and enhance what's already there, not fill in holes for what the actual story couldn't be bothered to tell. I recall that in the Red Letter Media reviews of the Star Wars prequels, the reviewer pre-empted claims about novelizations and EU material by saying that he's judging the *films*, and that it's the *film's* responsibility to present these things. By that token, it's up to the games to provide Chief's characterization. The books can supplement this, but if someone points out that, based on the games, he seems like a flat character, pointing to the books is kind of a tacit admission that the game has fallen short in that regard.

Have to agree with Toastie on this one, QED, a game that is praised to heavens and back should not have to rely on you doing homework to get enjoyment other games manage regardless out of it.

The Witcher games are based on books too, you dont need to enrol in the Polish folklore seminars to enjoy them.

The Halo lore is interesting, I never realised till I watched Halo Legends (only scratched the surface aswell), never found it interesting despite having played 3 halo games prior. And recently just finished watching 'Forward unto Dawn pretty descent.
