Ign gives Half-life 2 game of the decade...

god why does everyone think hl2 is the best game ever! i had to force myself through the game! like wohoo sitting on a boat for 50 mins D: im sorry but the game isent that great IMO.JetB1ackNewYear

Any game that isnt named GTA3 for this award is a FAIL imo.

I might even had been ok with MGS4 winning, but thats as far as I would go.

ive nvr even played that game before is it on the ps3 or 360?

I thought HL2 was a good game, but by no means the best. Heck, it probably wouldn't even be GotY in any of those years. I would have liked to see RE4 there and Zelda: MM (I know Zelda came out 2000, but this list is of games from the decade 2009 and before. Mr_Cumberdale

Have to agree with ign here, although, both halo's rival hl2 imo.

Decent list but Half Life 2 is overrated....I liked Episode Two waaaay better :D and if they had knocked off Uncharted and put RE4 that would have been better. Shadow of the Colossus I was certainly surprised but I'm definitely am not disagreeing with the decision.

Half Life 2 is so overrated. If you actually play it you will see that apart from the great atmosphere, HL2 has some of the worst shooter mechanics and physics ever. The Physics are overdone to the point where it's just idiotic. The shooter mechanics are so floaty. Bad guys don't react to being shot and the AI is equally as atrocious. Why people love it so much is beyond me, when there are clearly better shooters out there.

Maybe I should have said "mediocre", not bad. Their coverage isn't all bad, it's true, but most everything else isn't worth paying attention to. Few good editors remain there, just like Gamespot.

You mean besides the god awful controls, brutal length and utter lack of fun? Nothing at all.

BTW, I very much love everything else in Half Life 2, but those FPD sections are a nightmare.

The lack of Halo 1 on the list is disturbing. Let's just leave out the game that helped to make FPS on consoles work.

I can see why someone would choose HL2. Though, it isn't my first choise. Good game, but I was a little dissapointed by it. First one is still better Half-Life.

I honestly can't see why people praise this game so much. Maybe I played it late, but I couldn't help but have the "REALLY? People think this is great?" feeling the whole time I was playing. The most enjoyable part of that game was throwing cans at the guards. I strongly disagree with most of the list anyway (WoW and MGS3 are far superior to HL2 on the 04 list for example.) And they ranked SOTC over RE4 for 05. Maybe I should've played sotc while I had the chance but RE4 was by far the best game of that year.

I don't agree with that choice myself. I can see the impact of Half-Life 2, but I thought for sure they would have given it to Grand Theft Auto III. Not that I enjoy GTA games, it just seems like it would make a lot of sense.

I also don't like that they only used the #1 game for each year and then put those in a list. Some of the #2 and #3 games on the yearly lists really deserved to make that overall list. Stuff like Halo, Metroid Prime, World of Warcraft and Resident Evil 4 really deserve to be on that list moreso than a lot of other games. But that's just me talking I guess. :P
