The 3DS' gimmick as a massive flop, and PS Vita comes with more technology than we've ever seen in a single gadget, for a decent price. It's not hard to predict PSVita outselling 3ds.

And yet at the end of the day, it's almost certain 3DS will still outsell the Vita. Because it is targeted at children.

And there's certainly a lot more children running around begging their parents for one than adults willing to buy a Vita.

I don't think those games really compare to Pokemon. This is a game that literally hasn't changed since Red and every sequel and even remake makes ridiculous sales. If Pokemon can't catapult 3ds's sales past Vita then nothing can.

edit: and that's if Vita ever surpasses 3ds to begin with.

Seriously, PSV will sell, but nowhere near the 3DS.

Yeah its going to take it out with fantastic software, and cheaper hardware, and a broader appeal thats what..

Vita has an uphill battle no doubt. 3DS advantages -

• Pricepoint
• Children demographic
• Big sellers - Mario anything , Pokemon , and I suppose Monster Hunter for Japan when that comes out
• Sales headstart - attractive to developer$

All I really know about the Vita is that it will be cool and Sony rocks of course. Now sales and third parties though ? It could be a real disaster. They will need some luck to even get close to PSP level of success. It was all so new and so exciting back then when adult gamers thought they wanted a cool handheld , but then realised they didn't and would rather spend on console stuff or play junk on their phones because it is less cumbersome and embarrassing. :oops:

I just can't see it happen with Monster Hunter being exclusive for the 3DS at the moment. PSV has no killer apps thus far, while Nintendo has Mario Kart/Pokemon and now Monster Hunter. Of course though, its all speculation at this point.bobcheeseball

I think it's a pretty safe bet 3ds will win Japan so it's up to America to tip the scales. Uncharted is a big killer app in the U.S but I don't know if the UC/COD crowd are the type to shell out for a $250 handheld

PS: I am no way implying the vita has no games and think it has a sweet lineupjust that the 3ds has a lot of great games coming too.

I probably won't though. And the article made some points but the points can be turned right around on vita. It may be advanced but the smart phones and tablets are already advanced. Sure they don't have buttoms but has that stopped games from selling on them, no. And while the vita and 3ds are pretty much going to have the same specs for several years, Apple and Android get new specs every year. So I don't belive vita will beat 3ds. But the way the smart phones and tablets keep evolving, by the end of that gen neither may even half what their formers sold.

IGN has been pretty sloppy with its "journalism" lately. On top of having typos in many of their articles, there are an increasing number of opinions being represented, rather than facts. While I respect the author's opinion on the Vita's marketing strategy and etc, something like this should be a blog.

I think it has to do with the fact that a lot of the more qualified, people who were actually good at their jobs have left recently at that site, so the people under them all got promoted instead of them going out and looking for other people to take their place when they clearly were not ready. It seems like Greg and Colin basically run that site now and they just don't know what their are doing.. They have been there long and got popular for being obnoxious while working under the good journalists there, but now that those guys are gone there is no one to contest them anymore so they can basically say whatever they want.. Its getting worse and worse every day.

History shows that every single console generation the hardware king sells least, usually because it is more expensive.

Both portables will suffer from port and sequel overload just you watch; accept Vita will have PS3 ports and 3DS will get sequels of all the main Ninty franchises.

I have to laugh at that statement IGN made. Because the system that has Monster Hunter will win in Japan. Period.

MH was about the only reason I had to even consider a Vita. Now that the 3DS is getting it, I have no reason to invest in yet another portable. I dont care if it is a timed exclusive, it will be awesome regardless.

Wouldn't surprise me at all if the Vita ended up beating the 3ds in sales and vice versa. What really matters fo consumers is how many good games come out for it but sales are defiantly important to a degree a larger user base means more devlopers interest which in turn means more games for the system. I expect both to do well and break 50 million total sales which should put to rest people who say mobile phone gaming has totally wiped out dedicated handheld market there is a big enough of a market for both to coexist.

All have a chance of being solid titles. So that "no games" claim is un founded. In fact, all that Vita needs to release on their handheld for it to be a success is Call of Duty.

On spec, its already better.

Maybe on the first week (maybe month) of it's release, but for the rest of the way? Probably not. (Not that it will change in matter of who the gaming community likes more though)

Their assumptions are not "false" they are every bit as sound as yours. They read the same internet WE do, they go to the same E3's WE do (or at least watch on the internet), they play the same console WE do. You know, since this is his JOB/living and everything.....that and the fact that hes had hands on experience with BOTH platforms.

But of course, because his perfectly sound opinion differs from your own, he must be "wrong", or "just doesnt understand" when chances are, they are more knowlegable on the subject than YOU are :roll:

I agree with IGN. They made that exact same prediction about the PSP outselling the DS for similar reasons, and the PS3 outselling the Wii, and they were right both times. Their track record is immaculate. There is no reason to suspect that the Vita will not outsell the 3DS. Like IGN said, it is bound to happen.charizard1605

Not really. PSP and PS3 lacked the new control system, I'm not talking about graphics. Vita's got the whole package, except the games that is, though I hope that is fixed soon.
