Well the AAAAE threw me off.[QUOTE="jonnyt61"][QUOTE="BioShockOwnz"]Yet by many critics, they're rated as Outstanding and "Editor's Choice" which would imply, that they indeed, weren't average. Generic and average aren't the same. Why are you guys focusing so hard on FPS? :| I'm not just talking about a specific genre. TBH when i posted that comment two games came to mind. Uncharted and heavenly sword. Both games were pretty average, the only thing that saved them were good storytelling and graphics... other than that they are....pretty average. Guitar hero world tour is also a good example, etc. See what i mean? Well, I wouldn't call them average, in any way. They both had outstanding production and presentation, and great gameplay to boot. They scored an 8 out of 10, on here, which shows that the short length, and not exactly unique approach knocked them from being amazing games, to being above average titles. All those games you listed, with the exception of the Half-Life franchise and maybe Halo: Combat Evolved, can all be described as average FPS's (well, except Gears, as that's a TPS). There's nothing that sets them apart.
nintendo-4life
On the other hand, we have a game that has scored very close to a 9, when it does absolutely nothing new, and doesn't appear to do them to a standard that has already been set by other games in its genre. It seems to be a very run of the mill game, saved by its control scheme.
This is a flop, easily. I hyped this to be a 10, I was hoping it would surpass the greatest game of all time, Killzone 2, but no, it didn't. At least it's graphics king, but now, as you can see in the poster a few spaces above me's sig, I must fulfill my bet. Sigh... let me down.PrydesDo it while watching this. It will make it less painful.
still only 2 good exclusives for ps3 this year[QUOTE="hy4k"][QUOTE="simslifer"]

2 AAAE and an AAA thats only in last gen system as well.
Brawl, NMH, Galaxy, Wario ware all AAA here Good score. Now when will GS review it. I'm going to say that they will do it around October 18 of this year (They still haven't reviewed rune factory frontier and Rock Band wii to name a couple). Why are you guys focusing so hard on FPS? :| I'm not just talking about a specific genre. They weren't anything special, the games were great for, as i said, graphics and story. Conduit is said to have controls more fluid controls than any other console. That's something pretty big. As big, at least, as the presentational side of the mentioned games. It also seems pretty lengthy and a good online sport the length shortages and is solid all around. All three games are average, with little perks here and there to set them just a bit apart from the rest of the group. Why are you guys focusing so hard on FPS? :| I'm not just talking about a specific genre. Uh, Uncharted scored a 9.1 on IGN.
This is one good lookin' Wii game. I don't care what anyone says, I could mistake the environment at 1:45 in the video review for a first-gen 360 or PS3 title, like PDZ or R: FoM. I know it's obviously not as good as either of those titles in terms of technical power, but it sure does try hard to convince me otherwise with the fancy bells and whistles they're using on Wii.

What are you talking about?
He was bragging about how Wii doesn't have a AAAAE this year so it didn't make sense because no system does. So I assumed he was talking about overall. So a man with a known slant towards Nintendo, who is married into the Nintendo family, gave an exclusive game for the Wii he hyped for months a good score. What is the relevance of anything Matt has to say about a Wii game? He can't be impartial.RandolphScottSo we shouldn't take him seriously because he likes a game you don't?

No.
We shouldn't take him too seriously because he's married to a Nintendo employee and, having hyped the game significantly himself, has a personal stake in its success, and, as a result, has a biased perspective.

As someone who thought The Conduit looked mediocre at first, I have to say that it looks pretty good, especially for a Wii FPS. And if the controls are really as good as IGN says they are, that counts for alot.
Honestly, I don't see how some people can hype games that look as severely unpolished as MAG (and some others)and make fun of how The Conduit looks, especially considering that it's running on the Wii's hardware. It boggles my mind.
My problem with them is they talk too much and let it get to their heads. really there is nothing wrong with any of their projects, though, I still think the conduit is an ugly Wii game - mostly because of the art direction, which I dislike. Grinder looks a lot better - not interested in Gladiator AD.The majority have been trashing The Conduit on these forums. If it gets even an A, it's a success. Show HVS some respect.

"The biggest complaint I can make of the package is that it doesn't really upend the genre with some fantastic new twist, but simply clings to the fundamentals that made shooters fun to begin with. Thus, if you already own a PlayStation 3 or Xbox 360, both clogged with FPS titles, you've probably experiened some variation of The Conduit before." -Matt Casamassina IGN
That is what I was afraid of :/ I already own a 360 with a ton of amazing fps games with an awesome online servie to support them, in order for the conduit to warrant a buy from me it would have to rise above them in gameplay, however this dosen't seem to be the case.... not to mention the NWFC is no where near the best console based online service this gen with most games on it being hit or miss and the conduit seems to face this problem also, "I tested the online portion several times in preparation for this review and it yielded mixed results."
Oh well, this game still sounds geat for gamers who only own a wii this gen and want a decent fps fix (as Matt emphasised throughout the review) however, chances are that by now most wii gamers who are into the fps scene already own a 360 or PS3 and might turn this game down as I will and that may effect sales negativley! I'm sure people will be watchong its sales performance very closley in these following weeks!

I'll put this together with the few reviews it already has - in the pile that I don't trust so much.
Nothing against IGN but Casmassina has been hyping the Hell out of this game to no end. Honestly, I'm surprised he didn't give it a 9.
I'll wait for a GS or GT review.
"it's also a straightforward one. Run and gun, enemy spawners, and little else."
Ugh :xLto_thaG
What's wrong with that?

And a KB/M is far superior to the Wiimote? What's your point?
I'd still rather play a fantastic FPS on the PS3 / 360 than I would an average, ho-hum one on the PC (despite its superior control.) As would the majority of FPS fans. The 360, PS3, and PC all have a ton of AAA quality FPS stock to choose from. Just because an average unspectacular game uses the WiiMote doesn't exempt it from being average and unspectacular. This has always been a bit of a problem for the Wii.

PDZ was decent. Nothing terrible. Besides, The Conduit has me totally uninterested. How many shooters do we need? The game has problems, or so I hear, but other than that, I hear it's basically Perfect Dark with online multiplayer. And that, my friends, is a positive. This is the spiritual successor to Perfect Dark. Let's forget about PDZ, shall we? ;)

But the Wii doesn't have alot of shooters.
You can't play KB/M from a confy couch. I found that MoH:H2 and CoD:WaW to be more relaxed experiences than what I got on PC. I like both, and there's time for both on my schedule. What i have not time for is fighting with subpar controls like dual analogs. And a KB/M is far superior to the Wiimote? What's your point?

So? Copying the other consoles that do FPS far better isn't making the genre less derivative. Please Log In to post.
