After red dead 2 I'll certainly have an open world break.
@tryit: Building, crafting and farming usually consists of holding a button while watching a meter fill up. Fun...
@recloud: So no Spiderman then? Sucks for you!
BotW is outstanding btw. If you own a Switch it's a must buy.
To each is own. I like the freedom of open worlds and story driven games are a big reason why I play a game. I want to do what I want, when I want, the way I want and story driven and open world games are the best at that.
Everyone has different tastes, I for one, could ever play the same multiplayer FPS maps over and over and not grow tired of it quickly. I need something more tangible from my game other than a K/D ratio.

I would think combining the two (open world with story driven) would be really hard to do.
I mean a really good story kinda demands things happen in a certain way for the story to be rich and to make that happen you kinda have to guide the player and that is 'anti-open' so to speak.
dont you think?
@tryit: I agree it would be a very hard endeavor, which is why so many miss the mark. I think when you partition areas until a certian point, like the Witcher 3 did, it helps meld the story together into a more cohesive experience.
@tryit: if you actually played the video games you comment about with your stupid opinions you’d know. Horizon being one of them.
Why people keep entertaining your opinions on this board is beyond me. All of your useless input is based on YouTube clips.

I have already gone into great detail explaining that one can have played the game OR have seen videos on it. you will see I make that point in my responses.
and yes. I actually do believe you can get a very good sense of a video game by watch lets play if you have gaming experience, I would assume you do not think that is possible and I am to take you at your word on that right?
For the most part, open world games bore the shit out of me.
I hear people say that and then the games they refer to dont have crafting, building, farming or homesteading.
so yeah...not surprised by that!
Ok, enjoy that.
that was your hint to say 'oh yeah well I have played open world games that have crafting, building, farming and homesteading and I feel that they are .....'
instead of just stating the obvious which of COURSE an open world without crafting, building, farming and homesteading is going to be low on content
Nah, I'm good with my comment.

which means you havent played or seen any but you stand by that you are not interested
ok well I am off for the day
@tryit
@Gamerno6666
here is my complaints about HZO
1. cut scenes
2. icons all over the world helping you autoplay the game
3. no crafting
4. no building
5.no farming
6. easy
7. story gets in the way.
8. no first person mode
at least from what I have seen
@tryit: Wow, now Horizon is bad according to you?
from what I have seen absolutely. For example this video below (and feel free to point out errors in the video) is dead balls exacrtly my complaint i have had about games from 10 years ago, leading me to observation that not much really has changed
Above are your comments regarding a game you've never played.
Next thing you're shitting on a guy's opinion for not wanting to waste his time playing 'space engineers'. You're a joke.
Some people like open world games while others prefer movie games.
I love open world games with a passion :)
Same here @davillain-
Especially when they are incredibly well done like Horizon. Horizon is probably one of my favorite open world games this generation.
I wouldn't put BotW in same boat as AC. Just Cause games are padded with cookie cutter missions but I don't mind as much, the whole point of such games is to just mindlessly blow shit up and that cookie cutter content provides opportunity to indulge in its gratuitous design. I wouldn't mind AC games being so shallowly padded if stealth and combat felt well designed and satisfying, but it just isn't that way anymore, combat feels unrefined, stealth isn't as polished either.
@pdogg93
yes that is right and for the record I do believe you can get a very good idea of what a game is like by watching lets play videos. I understand how you think a game as complex as that makes it really not realistic unless you hand is on the controller but I do not share you view on that.
write in your diary, put it in your spreadsheet, dont forget it
@pdogg93: no point to argue with this crazy and delusional person.. trust me, not worth anyone times here.
I don't know you guys but open world and sandbox games completely wore me off this year. They're too unfocused and they have an overwhelming things to do.
I mean... When they're like Horizon Zero Dawn, where you have the whole world but NOT SO MUCH side quests, it's fine, but when you have something like assassin's Creed origins or Just Cause with obligatory side quests (since you have to level grind or to liberate some settlements) to progress with the game, said game start feeling like chores.
As of now, I'm completely getting away from open world games, I'm not going to play Zelda BoTW because of this.
Anyone else tired of these Kinds of games?
i bet you will be the first person to post about how great and innovative the open world is in Spiderman come september.
Ah so open world is ok as long as its from a Sony first party title is what im getting from just reading the OP.
Open world games are only bad if the world has large stretches of nothing in between or boring side activities. I think games like Yakuza do it right with a small easy to traverse map that is dense with things to do, shame most open world games are not like that. Looking forward to trying out Shenmue since it sounds like what I'm looking for.
@tryit: Building, crafting and farming usually consists of holding a button while watching a meter fill up. Fun...
that may or may not be true but it doesnt answer my questions regarding open world.
oh well
Sounds like you're really loyal to open world games that consist of farming and whatever...
In Breath of the Wild you aren’t required to do any of the countless side quests. So I suggest u give it a shot. I don’t like open world games but i absolutely love BOTW.

because I like those games I am loyal? is that where we are now?
your playing the wrong open world games
its that simple
I mean if your experience with so called 'open world games' is most Horizon Zero Dawn then yeah...you are playing the wrong games
THIS^
I thought I must have hated open world games after GTA5 and The Witcher 3, I was Sooooooo skeptical of Horizon Zero Dawn because "da open worldz" I didn't pull the trigger until it was on a fire sale and had 0 expectations for it to actually be good...and it blew me away.
THEN, I realized, it wasn't the open world aspect, it was the fact that the other games just weren't my cup of tea.

people complain about what they are calling 'open world games' to not have any content. yet those games that they are calling 'open world' dont even have crafting in them! let alone building, farming, supply chain, trading or homesteading...NONE of it. so of course its not going to have any content!
