I'm definitely done with open world games.

My issue with open world games is there isn't much to do in them. Holding forward for 5 minutes just to get from destination to destination doesn't make the game anymore fun, unless we're talking about Gta as it's more dense than the average open world game. Resident Evil 7 was such a breath of fresh air last year as it had structure.

I see people saying that a lot and from my view point if a so called 'open world game' doesnt feel like it has anything to do AND in addition to that also does not have crafting, building, farming or homesteading then my suggestion would be to look at different so called 'open world games'

To me a requirement for a game to be open world (FOR ME) is that it MUST have crafting and buildings, otherwise I am going to be bored out of my mind after a few hours.

So no surprises here if what I am saying is understood.

This view of mine really pisses a lot of people off so I am trying to be a nice and careful as I can to try and illustrate the point

@tryit: It pisses people off because you destroy thread after thread spouting the same b.s. over and over again.

@vfighter: it's even worse, I've stated in OP that I was tired of open world games because of the amount of things to do, they were ultimately overwhelming and taking out the focus of the game, he insists on saying people don't like open world games because they're empty, when they're not.

@Sagemode87: I miss structure in games, alright, open worlds are completely devoid of that and all that freedom is tiresome. The open nature of those games make a lot of system unrefined. They usually lack dungeons and so. And even worse: they state missions are critical but you can delay them for days and the mission will still be waiting for you, which it doesn't make any sense.

see I can take that and formulate a reason that I can believe as to why you would not like a game like Space Engineers for example.

its refreshing actually. You dont want to be burden with a bunch of options, you want to be 'guided thru' an experience (so to speak) and that is fine, we all work for a living so who wants to work for gaming (well clearly i do) but that is a reasonable reason i think.

That's too bad. Zelda BotW is my favorite example of an open world game done right, even with towers and everything. I love open world games with a good sense of variety in the locales and an emphasis on exploration. That something Zelda did well.

Exactly, that's the whole point of gaming to me. I already work and study, I don't want to work anymore in gaming. I like being guided. JRPGs were the only type of game that used to give you a world to explore, a nice but not overwhelming amount of systems and told a good story. Unfortunately, the genre is a dying breath.

yeah if you think what you have experienced thus far in those games you are referring to is 'work' then yes.. Space Engineers would be torture for you.

so I get that

It is. I hate having to grab materials to complete missions (the so called fetch quests), having to liberate some areas to unlock the next mission. Having to complete dumb side quests to level up and then proceed to the next mission.

I'm the kind of guy that like focused structured stuff. I like when stuff has a beggining, a middle and an end, I like to see things through.

That's the reason why I usually read book series that are already finished and watch TV shows that has an ending.

I hate never ending stuff.

to be fair 100% of the so called 'open world games' I play do not have quests.

but I get your point overall

I just play them for the story/main quests and a few extras. Trying to 100% these kinds of games will only cause fatigue. Some games let you get on with the main story with minimal effort which I like. Other games (the bad open world games imo) will force you to grind the repetitive lesser quests for very useful gear/abilities or even halt story progression. Avoid these types at all costs.

It's all about keeping it optional. Let people progress if they want but don't force people to 100% or they won't see the true ending or some bullshit like that.

@Ghost120x: that was my grip with AC origins and just cause 3. I simply dreaded grinding for levels in origins, but it was bearable. As for JC3, I simply gave up when I realized I had to destroy bases to progress on the main story, truly boring.

@apophi5: yes, it was and I agree. But that game and HZD were the last open world games I truly enjoyed, I found both words cohesive and the characters amazing. HZD had varied areas and weather that made.me love it and Witcher 3 had a really good OST voice acting, story and Amazing side quests. Truly one of the best games I've ever played.

One of the main reasons why I stopped playing Origins was because there were so many pointless freaking side quests, and the main quests weren't much better. An open world game with fewer, and more meaningful side quests make a lot more sense to me.
