Speaking under conditions of anonymity, a highly-placed source close to Vivendi has told VG247 that, despite comments from Blizzard to the contrary over the weekend, a newly-formed Activision-Blizzard may see a console version of Diablo III as a no-brainer.
"Blizzard will face immense pressure to produce a console version of Diablo III," we were told. "If Kotick says, 'We can sell 10 million units of a console version' - and he will, because they can - it's an obvious situation. Money talks. You could be looking at nearly half a billion dollars in revenue.
"That said [Blizzard is] in a unique position. Very few people have any sway over them at all."

Hack n slash games work very well on consoles. I don't see why they shouldn't do this. This game isn't even using any form of hardcore graphics either. Either way, I'm getting it. My laptop could play this easy anyways.
Blizzard had the foresight to prepare for this during their merger with Activision, they kept control over all their projects, so Activision can push, but unless Blizzard wants it to happen, it won't.
And Blizzard has been pretty clear they don't want it to happen. Their making it nice and accessible for pretty much anyone with a PC from the last 5 years, and mandatory parts of their franchise like Battle.net would be wholly incompatible with any console online service.
If that happens Hermits will be pissed. EPaul
If Diablo III is also announced for consoles then every hermit on gamespot would riot. I'd expect to say the whole front page of system wars with threads revolving around their outrage.

It would be funny to see Hermits go crazy, we've seen sheep, cows and lemmings go crazy already but never hermits
Activision has no say over it, Vivendi owns the whole company and they are the ones who always gave Blizzard free rein.
Unless Blizzard themselves want it to happen it won't.
In reality this is propably a PR push by outside sources, because both Sony and MS have been whining to Blizzard for their games for years now, so it's just one more of those atempts
We've already seen the same stuff about console WoW before

Exactly. I'd like to see what Hermits do when filled with hate and outrage. It would be quite a sight to see.

What does that have to do with anything? Activision don't get the final say, Blizzard does. And Blizzard have made their position on this pretty clear.
Even if they did change their mind now, they've got virtually no resources at their fingertips to make a console port (the last console project they worked on was Starcraft Ghost) so the console version would either be unfeesible alongside the PC version or would come years later.
Why do you care anyway, I thought Diablo 3 was the same uninspired crap to you?
If it works on my laptop, then I'll be getting the game for that, no doubt. Otherwise, if it doesn't work, I hope it comes to consoles.SOedipus
Same with me, brotha. If you can run Vista, odds are you'll be able to run this game.
That would save me building a new PC. Have up to 4 players on 1 console... Heck yah!
But I doubt Blizzard will do that.

I just wanna see hermits cry is all, i woulnt buy the game.
So your trolling.
Blizzard cancelled StarCraft Ghost for consoles because it did not meet their strict quality standard. They care more about quality than sheer profits.
If Diablo 3 gets dumbed down for consoles, then Activision will be the next EA and Blizzard will be the next BioWare.
yes, especialy since it will be out in 2010 propably. It's specific game, Blizzard won't loose all that many sales by staying PC-only, this game is so big and will have such low hardware requirements that most potential console customers will just buy it for their PCs/Macs, which for Blizz makes more sense financialy (bigger margins of profit, more customers to Battle.net many of which will later spill to other Blizzard games like WoW or SC2)Same with me, brotha. If you can run Vista, odds are you'll be able to run this game.

Baldur's Gate was awesome on consoles. Shame that company whent under... If Baldur's Gate can do it, then Diablo 3 can too.

knowing blizzard it will probably run on an AMD 3000+ with a 6600GT and 512MB of RAM.

That's pretty sad. I think you should take a break from System Wars.
And Blizzard has already stated they won't be doing this.
can we please stop with this "anonymous employee" rumurs....they rarely ever amount to anything. Like the one with both Crysis and Wow coming to consoles.....
what is this really saying....that Activision would like to have Diablo 3 on a console....well thats not exacly to surprising...unfortunatly for activision, Viviendi holds majority share in the merger, and Blizzard publishes their own games by themseleves....and have already said that as part of the agreement, they are allowed to remain self-sustained.

There are several problems with this statement
1 - Starcraft Ghost isnt cancelled yet and also why would Diablo 3 get "dumbed" down for the consoles? I dont think it gets any simpler than pointing at an enemy and than clicking on him. It wouldnt be hard to perserve the same Diablo feel on the consoles.
2 - Bioware's only game that collaborated with EA is Mass Effect PC. Aside from the interface, I would be happy for Bioware to continue what they're doing.
No, it's shelved and actualy it;s even worse than canceled :) Because after putting stop on it's development Blizzars has disbanded all console teams they have and either fire people from them or moved them into PC teams1 - Starcraft Ghost isnt cancelled yet

Blizzard disbanded thier console development teams. Pretty much as cancelled as it gets.
Blizz might deny console D3 even stronger as a way to preserve their independence, if they give in now, what next will Activision want? Console-only game? Deadlines? 2 years dev cycles?can we please stop with this "anonymous employee" rumurs....they rarely ever amount to anything. Like the one with both Crysis and Wow coming to consoles.....

Especialy since there's no way Blizz could do the port themselves, they have their hands full with 4 projects and I don;'t think they would react nicely to idea of other company handling their baby

Ghost is truly in the deepest pits of development hell. I imagine the only reason they didn't explicitly call it cancelled is so they could perhaps resurrect it one day.

Im not disappointed, Starcraft Ghost looked like crap but it would be cool to see a Starcraft shooter.
As #1 Blizzard fanboy supporter (ok not #1), I am very happy with what Blizzard is doing as of now.
I don't believe it will happen, but Battle.net can be incorperated into both services ala PlayOnline from FFXII.Blizzard had the foresight to prepare for this during their merger with Activision, they kept control over all their projects, so Activision can push, but unless Blizzard wants it to happen, it won't.

MMO's abide under a different set of rules than other games for online raesons...thats why say age of conan will have cross platform multiplayer without using windows live.

I really don't see why they can't use Bnet for a console version,or why they wouldn't just use the Live interface (whatever you may call it).1 - Starcraft Ghost isnt cancelled yet and also why would Diablo 3 get "dumbed" down for the consoles? Playing Diablo games on gamepad is possible, but at a greatly reduced speed. This means that blizzard has to make the game easier and slower to make up for the in-accurate and slow control speeds of consoles.

Diablo worked on the PS1.
The thing is you dont directly translate Mouse=Analog stick
You use the Analog stick to move the character instead of the mouse, and use the face buttens to attack. It's called creative thinking with controls. So yes if it will come to consoles it will become something like God of War in an isometric view.
