Unhappy with the fact that the game has no dedicated servers, votekick, voteban, or really any system to deal with cheaters, Hackers figured out a way to get aimbot, speedbot, infinite ammo, and other things in the game in under a week.

I played with an aimbotter yesterday whose name was votekickme. I'm not sure whats more embarassing thinking that matchmaking could work on the pc with no votekick mechanism or having aimbotters in the game in under a week.

Ah, I was hoping PC gamers didn't buy the game, resulting in low sales which would have forced ACTIVISION and IW to make their next game on PC much, much better.

I guess the PC audience couldn't boycott it?:(

Then again, I will wait till next year before I really scrutinize the sales of this game. I don't care about sales, but I do care if anyone can stand up to the Evil Empire, Activision.

Poor sales may give the opposite effect, and there simply won't be a PC version next time.

I'm still holding up the boycott, I use the money to buy Dragon Age Origins instead. Worth every single penny so far.

What's the difference? Infinity Wards sold out a long time ago and have already gave up on PC gamers, the very same people who helped jumpstart the first Call of Duty.

Id prefer a bad PC port, than no port at all, that applies to any game!

You're a PC/360 gamer? I doubt it.

There's probably just as many cheaters and pirates on 360 yet PC still is the only one with the stereotype.

Well i know MW2 isin't a bad port, but the way some talk about it ud think it was.

Ive also played Double Agent and Bully, and bad as they may have been i had ALOT of fun playing them, which i wouldn't have had if they had never been ported at all. I'm also going to buy The Force Unleashed soon aswell, bad port or not.

I think the only port ive played that i felt was just unplayable was Resident Evil 4, but even thats been modded to hell and back to make it alot better than it was.

End of the day i want to play games on my PC, not on a console, so i will take ALL the ports i can get, good or bad, as long as the game is good thats all i care about, i can work around the issues :D

yeah thats why there is usually server admins that kick/ban hacker/cheaters

even with server admins it can sometimes still take awhile, and not all games have server admins. and i still always find my self pissed of from hackers on alot of pc games.

Someone evidently doesn't understand how server side banning and client votekicks operate....
And someone evidently doesn't understand how backend banning works on closed networks.

That someone has been quoted....I'll let you figure out who it is!

Incidentally, and this is important, so pay attention, when an admin finds a cheater, actually, I have used these tools before, you open the console (the `~ key in the top left of your keyboard), enter a brief command into the console, and the cheater goes away forever. It takes all of four seconds, about a half a second for the thought to register that the person is cheating (or to read all the rampant complaints from the users on your server), and the remaining 3 and a half seconds (if you're slow) to open the console and ban the cheater for all time from your server.

Contrast this, if you'd be so kind as to try to learn something from this post, to the way backend banning works on a system like Xbox Live or VAC (Valve anti-cheat, Steam's cheating countermeasure). VAC, which MW2 uses, utilizes delayed bans. There is no way, NONE, to send a direct report to Steam or to the people operating the system. There is also no /record feature in games without consoles, so you have no convenient way of recording cheater footages via killcam or something. The cheat has to be detected on the backend by their detection software (most of them evidently are invisible to the software), at which point the delay of 2-4 weeks will elapse and the person will be basically eradicated from Steam. If you're talking about Xbox Live....I believe there's a reporting feature, but you still have to wait for the backend people to kill the cheater's Xbox Live account and ban their console.

FACTS: MW2 uses back-end VAC delayed bans taking up to a month to delay the cheats the software catches (most of them are written to avoid this software).

MW2 does not have a developer console for /record and it does not have kickvotes for trouble players or admins for instant IP bans.

Back-end banning takes MUCH LONGER than admin bans, which is the problem to begin with.

css, bf2 soon as one hackers banned another joins, games like diablo/warcraft/ you cant ban them and other rpgs/rts where you cant ban them either. or mmo hackers, Ive got nothing against pc gameing its my primary platform but hackers piss me off.

As opposed to what? What is your solution to the problem of people simply exploiting vulnerabilities in the software for their own gains? You've either got back-end banning like you see on consoles and in MW2 on PC, which I've explained to you does not work, or you've got kickvote/admin bans. There really isn't anything else. The reason you can't ban cheaters in Diablo/Warcraft is because it's P2P, same thing as MW2. The hackbans are all conducted by the backend as opposed to votekick, which would obviously solve the problem.

I would imagine it's easier to create and use hacks on PC, thus making it more of a problem. But IWnet is hardly the ideal way of dealing with this problem by the looks of things. If anything it makes it easier for hackers, pirates and griefers to operate.

I'm curious. Call of Duty (+United Offensive), Call of Duty 2, Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, Call of Duty: World at War... all these games you've built your communities around. When did Activision/Infinity Ward/Treyarch deactivate them? How long after the release of Modern Warfare 2 did they quit working? Because if they didn't, then I don't see what you're all complaining about. CoD4 runs just as well today as it did on November 9th.

Particularly griefers. Although griefing is more subject to patching than other forms of being obnoxious, it's still invisible to anti-cheat programs. And considering how little concern IW evidently has for the PC version of MW2 I suspect that any of those vulnerabilities will stay wide open until the end of the product's lifespan (3 weeks tops?). It's funny, because they said they would not just be throwing PC gamers to the wolves with IWnet but they have clearly stopped caring or monitoring anything as the exploits, hacks, legitimate grievances and forum spam continue to mount endlessly.

Do the delusional actually believe this? all that would have done was make the next CoD console esclusive.

s of now .. I don't think the game sold very well on PC at retail --- for ex: 53K in UK and poor sales in Germany (biggest PC market). So unless steam sales were really high, I doubt sales were good

It was a business decision to cause personal offense to an entire subset of their consumer demographic (incidentally the most devoted one)? All the more reason to be offended.

When you have dedicated community servers the exact opposite is true.

Thats what they get for charging 60 bucks for a game that has less online features than tf2 which was 2.50 a week ago ha IW is a joke. It didn't even take a week for them to look like idiots.

I love it. Hopefully they learn their lesson.

yup, around 1 million sales on PC alone according to vgchartz. that sure is a boycott.

Cyberfairy

Don't trust vgchartz, cause that number is way off. Here in the UK the game bombed selling only 53k units. Total amount of sales for MW2, the PC version is the lowest at only 3%

Here are the sales data for the UK.

X360 - Over 1 million copies sold (57%)

PS3 - 712k copies sold (40%)

PC - 53k copies sold (3%)

The PC version was a complete disaster and Activision and IW only got them self's to blaim

Probably not but no one likes to look like an idiot. Its just embarassing. This is why IW is not on the level of vavle blizzard bungie bioware, and other top devs .Sales be damned, IW looking like idiots is priceless.

The difference is i still want to play their games, i don't care about anyone else! I was never going to play the multiplayer anyway, i haven't bought it yet, but i'm going too soon.

Id prefer a bad PC port, than no port at all, that applies to any game!

im not sure about that mate theres been some terrible ports over the years - sc double agent, saints row2, bully, the force unleashed, resident evil 4 etc etc. but as far as sp goes mw2 is certainly not a bad port its just terribly overpriced

MW2 is awsome across all platforms, hermits need to grow up,its just a game, dont want it,dont buy it,infinty ward can have my 60 bucks, they earned it,boycotting a game?really?get a girlfreind and play some spec ops,mw2,best game of 09,period,and I bought it for the ps3,and havent touched another game since I bought it,games are for fun,as joker would say,WHY SO SERIOUS?grow up,cows, lems and herms, lifes to short.sorry,im rambling, but I ramble the truth

What is this.2 diffrence you speak ofI missed that one.On a side note im not trying to ruffle any feathers,I just wish everyone would enjoy what they have, you know a pepsi is considered a luxery in poor areas around the globe? And here we are, spoiled americans crying over a video game,we suck.

Does VGChartz account for digital downloads? NPD did mention a difficulty in tracking digital sales to help give an accurate number for the PC.
